  • Ahead of the fast approaching winter season, we are really excited to release the first in a new series of Ski Technique clips. These short effective tutorials zone in on some of the sports most fundamental areas for improvement. Simple drills both on and off the mountain will help you get a better understanding of the movements required for each subject.
In the first instalment, we look at IMPROVING CARVING BY USING ANGULATION. So if you are hoping to become more confident with skiing at higher speeds and this will be a great place to start.
We hope you enjoy the first of the new series.

One of the most important drills. Especially for the turn of everyone's weaker leg (i.e. when the weaker lef is your outside leg...)

This system is very good for carving and if you do long turns, but what happens if they are short turns, is there a system to practice turning with knees and ankles? without doing a-frame?
    Thank you.

All this is just fine . . . however, this is all predicated on the fitness level of the Skier. Many can not execute this form and these turns due to a fair/poor level of fitness . . . as exemplified by many of my students . . . especially members of the older generation that carry extra weight !!

CORRECTION: "In finish form the uphill (OUTSIDE ) ski leg knee will be tucked behind the (INSIDE) knee with nearly all weight on the OUTSIDE ski." ------ got my knees tucked up.

This exercise at 2.50 is terrible mistake, you will improve the 70' years ski style.. Not good with modern carving technique. You will not create a real angulation to push inside the turn hips.

Those skies are made for carving, any1 new to skiing should really speak with a proper store rep.

Why most ppl ski on the hero skies? Its super easy to carve with those once you can control the pop. Big hills like these just cry for medium to long radius skies

You generate turns with your hands. It looks bad. May you don't know it but i see it.

Yes - I see what you mean , there is an element of arm / upper body involvement. Is the jerky action after transition part of the issue?

Not very stylish. To much weight on your inside ski. To make your carve look better and execute smoothly, unweight your inside ski through the turn so that it just rides along. In finish form the uphill (outside ) ski leg knee will be tucked behind the outside knee with nearly all weight on that ski. Your turn will be fully under control, and look beautiful..

    • @Osnosis

No tucking of the knee; results in a-frame and higher likelihood of injury to stance let’s knee.

Lousy form. You lean in and rotate your outside shoulder instead of using angulation. Instead of rolling onto the new ski in transition you pop up between turns. You might take a look how Harold Harb (at nearly age 70) does it right.
