    I feel like this machine would be great for schools. The interface is very similar to other FDM machines like the Sidewinder X1 and the built-in curing station makes the process very simple. While a maker like myself would buy something like an Elegoo Mars, people who don't know exactly how the system works would get great value out of this. It teaches students how it works and how to service the machine.

    • @truantray
      @truantray 3 года назад +7

      I would not put a resin printer in schools. These resins are a mix of mystery chemicals throwing off VOCs, and as you can see, the curing chamber doesn't even have a safety lock for UV exposure. While it's great Joel gloved up, he should be wearing a NIOSH mask for VOCs.

  • @Bashere
    @Bashere 3 года назад

    Having worked in prototyping professionally I can tell you I agree with your points on cleaning.
    The more resin you can remove, the better. We used soft paint brushes for cleaning prints. The model should be almost matte in appearance when clean. Any shiny spots is excess resin that still needs to be removed.
    The print also needs to be dry before curing. IPA will interfere with curing. Compressed air is the easiest way to dry the print.
    The size of the model does not really affect the curing time. We had set times depending on the type of resin. Usually a minimum 30 min per side. (30 min then flip for a total of 60) Longer if still not cured. Opaque resins always take longer than clear.
    Hope that may have answered any questions.

  • @vit.budina
    @vit.budina 3 года назад +14

    I have had experience with FDM only, but a curing station attached to a machine isn't that good of an idea, since, as a 3D printing business, you'll likely have multiple machines, but you only need one curing station. At that point, it's more cost-efficient to get a fleet of Anycubic resin machines and one or two curing stations instead of getting a few of these with useless hardware added to the bill.

  • @bryanfoster362

    The pump works in the same way as a medical pump in dialysis units. The pump itself doesn't get in contact with the resin at all. It squeezes the tubing to transport it to the chamber.
    If any UV-Light is curing the Resin within the tube, you still don't have to replace the pump

  • @FineClonier
    @FineClonier 3 года назад

    Like the concept, but seems to be missing in execution. I could see the curing station being a big bonus, would like to see that be detachable. Would also be cool if a peristaltic pump was attached that would deliver resin at the rate of curing. That would fix the curing in the pump issue, because that would be contained in the tube as a peristaltic rolls over the tube to produce the suction. Would also be nice is the tube was brown or black to shield from UV light along with some sort of stopper top to fit into the resin bottle for a good seal on that side.
    Question, could you cure under liquid with this station?

    For $2500, how many Elegoo Mars 2 Pros and Anycubic wash/cure stations could you buy? I don’t know the prices off the top of my head, but I bet it’s at least three of each.
    That being said, there are some ideas worth building on. Automatic refill of the resin tank is really neat. The spring-loaded build plate is intriguing as well. With a little more engineering effort and testing, those could be used on future printers to great effect.

  • @SavageSmithy
    @SavageSmithy 3 года назад

    If I were them I would ditch the curing station and use the space to enclose larger resin bottles/pump assembly so they are UV isolated and easy to access unlike the back of the machine.
    I would assume the pump in the machine is a peristaltic pump in which case if its exposed to UV while full of resin you would only need to change the tubing to recommission it which I don't think would be so bad or costly while you're learning to follow resin printer protocol.

  • @HackMonkey
    @HackMonkey 3 года назад

    Feels like it is half way there, with multiple missed opportunities. I can see this form factor working well in a business, where you might only use one material per machine. So a reservoir that could be filled would make more sense than a bottle. The lack of a wash feature is the big miss. Joel has to use the wash container from another $150 station to finish the job. If there were a way to move the platter to the wash\cure side and wash without removing from the machine that would be perfect. Finally, with that huge size, a built in tray that slid out from underneath would be great for containing messes. It could have a silicone liner, and when closed a couple LEDs could cure the mess for easy clean up.These kind of features would justify the cost better. Otherwise, break it up into multiple pieces like Anycubic and Elegoo.

    I'm looking at this and saying, "ok, we have a resin printer and a curing station built into one box for convenience... but where's the washing station?" Doesn't seem like a well thought out product if it's not covering all three phases of the resin printing workflow.

      Because everybody has different techniques on how to wash and such. But there is only one way to cure.......
      So they cant cater to dozens of different wash methods or "home made techniques" that each person feels works better for each material or even different objects. The printer only prints one way, and the cure section only cures one way....sooooo, maybe?

      Probably don't want to advocate using liquid near the machine, alongside that would make the machine even bigger, this definitely has some nice features and I'm sure if batch making you could get a flow together of parts finishing prints and being washed as the last finish curing etc

      @@cdav2199 It's a resin printer. How are you meant to use it without getting liquid near the machine?

      @@POTATOEMPN Yep, maybe. Seems odd to me because I use an Anycubic Wash & Cure unit, so it's already combined. It's about as strange to me as having a Resin Printer + Washing Station combination without a Cure Station because people might already have Nail Polish Curing machines.

    When possible I just let my models dry before curing. I've also been trying something Adam Savage recommended, cutting a round hole in a box, just big enough for a hairdryer nozzle. Model inside, hairdryer in the hole, a few minutes later you have a dry model.

    I would pay extra for having the resin resivoir automated the way this one is (but one that would work preferably), but I don't need the curing chamber at all. How much cheaper would be if they could just put that feature on a regular $200 resin printer.

    I think you're playing for the industrial look and the idea that it's a "professional" machine. Probably catering to the bosses at the company who don't use the machine so don't know any better. Like the bosses at animation studios who spend a fortune on maya when the same job could be done for less (and often easier) with LightWave.

    It slices, it dices, it. . . I won't go there. It's like they started out with a decent fair sized printer and then everyone got drunk and started coming up with the dumbest additions they could. "And a pump, that can have a bottle on the back of the printer so you can't put it in a corner or against a wall! People will love that!"
    Dear gods that half assed curing chamber. The speed it spins at I'm surprised it doesn't throw the models off. Lighting only from the top and 30lbs additional sheet metal to attach it to the printer.
    Nuke it from orbit, that's the only solution.

    Liked the video. Not impressed with the JGMaker. However, the Craftbots in the background is on my wish list because of dual-extruders. Like to know more about that.

    This thing is pretty horrible. Much better off with the simpler Anycubic printer and Wash/cure chamber as a separate unit.

    Don't like it if the cure station breaks the whole things broke to me just my opinion lol and the resin pump is not a good idea at all and its not worth 2500 dollars no way you can get the same size machine resin printer and a separate curing station for just over 1000 dollars i would think

    I could buy a gigantic printer for that kind of money! the prints didn't really look detailed enough for me.

    Not a fan of the combined concept. I prefer separate, they can break separately, I can upgrade separately and I can work in different locations. There is not really any innovation with this concept, and it just feels... awkward.

    Looks like an inconvenient location for the resin bottle. That one bottle will make it sit a lot further from the wall.
