I can't believe that this franchise of a simple android girl fighting evil with various disguises/forms and as the Warrior of Love is now *half a century old.*
And before Sally the Witch/Mahotsukai Sunny (its original title from the manga), there were two titles from the very first stages of the "magical girl" genre: Princess Knight (from 1953, regarded as the prototype of the whole magical girl genre) and Himitsu no Akko-chan (1962, the first real magical girl manga, though it wasn't aired as an anime until 1969)
Pere Parellada Gràcia and mazinger z. He either gives you some thing action packed or offensive to PTAs. Go nagai as a reserved spot in for that and he'll still be writing stuff to offend everyone and god.
See, lotta anime/manga that came out was reflective of the times or what they wanted to inspire in the generation. So check it, with Cutie Honey, it fits how in the 70s women were moving from being housewives to going for actual careers and goals. The character Cutie Honey exemplifies this: she can transform into her confident alter ego for the Honey Flash, symbolic of female empowerment, where she can be self-reliant and capable of kicking ass on her own terms. BUT! not just that, but even in her non-superpowered state, she still enjoys a multitude of careers of her choice: singer, journalist, and even race car driver. Something girls growing up could be impressed by and do themselves when growing of age. Before Cutie Honey, used to be only dudes that were the powerful protagonists, with females being supporting cast or damsels in distress. This anime/manga started things in a bold, new direction. And it's a testament to the changing of the times for a nation. Good stuff.
The Pic of Ice it was really made for young men at the time because honey flash was one of the first really sexual female characters in anime and not to mention the overwhelming use of sexual innuendo in the show so honey flash was really a hero men could fap too
This originally aired in a 9:30pm time-slot, so that tells you a lot right there. It also explains why there wasn't a line of Honey fashion dolls with all the various outfits.
Yeah, I don't think Cutey Honey was meant for a young female demographic in light of its mentioned timeslot ^. Actually, the only time it was even considered for young girls was during its Cutey Honey Flash era, where it replaced Sailor Moon's timeslot.
Well... Ecchi was a thing starting 1967 (Lupin) and 1969 when Go Nagai created the scandalous manga and live action Harenchi Gakuen that served as a template for Cutie Honey. Mahou no Mako-chan (a magical girl from 1970 heavily influenced by Attack No. 1 and Go Nagai) was officially the first TV anime to display explicite ecchi stuff that is on par with Cutie Honey and Majokko Meg-chan. As for Toei... well, they are so old and large their catolog is filled with big hits, classics and trend-setting animes.
Also famous on Tokusatsu Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, which aims for kids But meh, given Rider Creator want to created Skullman before Rider, it's normal that Cutie Honey author who wrote Devilman/Violence Jack, worked for the former have a similar experience
As a girl myself I really enjoy this anime. Yes this is a fact that there's a LOT of fanservices in it and Honey is a teen robot just like Jenny Wakeman but that's what makes this anime so unique and beautiful. It's just a classic version of Kill La Kill Which is more extreme and naughty
False. Ecchi can be traced further back in the 60s. Lupin III in 1967 was one of the first and Go Nagai Harenchi Gakuen definitely set the tone in 1969 with full ecchi stuff. Even a shoujo like Mahou no Mako-chan (1970) was full of fan service and some ecchi scenes in what was quite a dramatic magical girl series. As for magical girl genre, it was Himitsu no Akko-chan that created the genre and most of its tropes in 1962 (years before the alleged Bewitched influence, which is wrong. Yokoyama Mitsuteru (the mangaka) stated "I Married a Witch" (a 1942 american movie screened in Japan in 1951) inspired him. Bewitched was only a later influence when Akko-chan became an anime in 1969. The magical girl genre early genesis is fascinating. Unfortunately, too many people cling to hearsays and a few famous titles, forgetting most of the pioneering work was done almost a decade before.
Wrong, the first magical anime was mahou tsukai sally 1966 ,so no it didn't ,for another point there've been much more magical girls in Manga adoption either which came much earlier, before Cutie honey (Himitsu no Akko-chan 1953-1971). Cutie honey more like published only the Ecchi genre since it was one of the first Ecchis in the anime universe.
Ganon: (Outraged) Who are you?! Cutie Honey: (Laughs) (Speaks Japanese) "Shall I clue you in, Ganon? At times a horse racer. At other times a Link stunt double, a moblin, or a stand in for Princess Zelda. However, my true identity is... Warrior of Love, Cutie Honey!"
Ganon: ¡¿What are you say?! ¿¡Wheres the real Princess Zelda!? Cutie Honey: Thats was me all the time Ganon: And ¿Where Link? Cutie Honey: He is other of my transforms. Link never exist really Ganon: ¿¡WTF!? (Brain Explote) Cutie Honey: Hehe thats always work
Fun fact, it was originally planned to be for girl but the Toei staff and Go Nagai felt the concept was a better fit for boys and went batshit crazy with it! ;-)
@Little Sullivan They didn't change it because it would be boring, they changed it because Cutie Honey and another anime called Miracle Girl Limit-chan were fighting for the Little Witch Girl timeslot on TV Asahi which ran on Mondays from 7PM to 7:30PM. In the production, Cutie Honey was known as Honey Idol where the character Honey Tachibana has seven transformations and a boyfriend named Shun Kazami who had a little sister. Cutie Honey ended up losing Little Witch Girl and moving to the TV Asahi timeslot Demon Beast Monster Great Transformations!!! which ran on Saturdays from 8PM to 8:30PM and that meant Cutie Honey was going to become a shounen. Honey Tachibana was now Honey Kisaragi and her love interest is now made unclear and Shun Kazami was now Seigi Hayami and his little kid sister was now a little boy named Junpei and the community Panter Claw was created as the main villains and lastly Seigi now has a father called Danbei... And that is what happened! 😉
I just realized, looking at and listening to this from the 70s, that it's also a parody of the opening of all those James Bond movies! Except the nekkid woman IS the hero! Domo arigato!
Hopefully you really see this, and you are really a grandmother/father? if so let me congratulate you for having arrived here and know this great program despite the years that this one has, and I think that your grandchildren would see it, since I am 13 years old and I have been watching this anime, it is also a question of tastes but I still think they could like it, greetings from chile
@@nuker3272actually this anime is tamer than the original manga toning down much of the violence, sexual and dirty humor and lesbian undertones but retaining Miss Alphonne (the teacher)’s attraction to Honey(the female protagonist)
Cutey honey and its adaptations are the only anime with a lot of fanservice I like, because here it's so fun and really fits the tone. Plus it's a big piece of maho shoujo and overall anime history. One of my favorites though I do prefer flash since I love that 90s sailor moon kinda stuff.
I discovered her last spring, now I would like to see the original. She is indeed a cutie, especially with red hair or blue one on her motorbike. the new opening was one of my favourite. But this one is deliciously vintage.
I see that not a lot has changed as far as female human bodies in anime over the last 48 years. At least this one makes her cool, not just attractive. Regardless of outfit, even. You can tell from the opening that she's a great person, but not one to be messed with under any circumstances.
First magical girl anime I’ve considered watching because it’s not about a magical girl, it’s about an android. (P.S. I don’t watch anime for fan service which is why I wouldn’t usually watch this genre. Also, catchy theme song.)
I never seen the Original Cutey honey from the 70's but I loved watching the series from the 90's. She is a terrific woman a one woman army so many different beautiful forms her warrior form is really sexy and she is a tough fighter.
Man this intro sure is catchy and I like it, beside the first opening of uresi yatsura and fist of the north star. So far all the 70s anime I saw and some of the intros of others are catchy. :D
Go Nagai. You might not know his name, but you know his work. He invented mecha manga and he invented magical girl manga. Hell, his manga "Violence Jack" was one of the many inspirations for the show Samurai Jack. At least the line, "They call me Jack."
Cutie Honey theme song (English) lyrics (I wrote them myself.) Who's the lucky girl with the power and the talent Showing off her curves as she struts like a model? She's the girl known as Honey Flash your way as you fight for love just like you do Cutie Honey! Cutie Honey! She's the girl who'll save the day Evil doers, better watch what you say She will come and take you away. Oh watch out! Oh Watch Out! Oh Watch out! She is gonna get you! HONEY FLASH! Boys will turn their heads as she walk by and pass them She can show her style when she makes her first impression She's the girl known as Honey Flash your way as you fight for love just like you do Cutie Honey! Cutie Honey! She's the girl who'll save the day Evil doers, better watch what you say She will come and take you away. Oh watch out! Oh Watch Out! Oh Watch out! She is gonna get you! HONEY FLASH! Spoken: I will change your life!
Starting this anime I was pleasantly surprised to see that Cutie Honey REALLY fights. In newer and more mainstream magical girl anime the protags usually just exchange a few blows before using their flashy special attack to win. Honey really beats the hell out of the grunts and even the villains. I guess that’s the difference between a magical girl show made for boys vs made for girls.
It’s actually for both male and female audiences! Honey appealed to girls with her transformation sequence yes being nude but having a Barbie doll body!
That and the original manga is much more of a sci-fi vibe. The magical girl angle was a secondary theme that got pushed to the forefront in the anime adaptation.
For a cute and attractive character named Cutie Honey, she's by far one of the ONLY female characters in the magical girl genre who actually runs fades.
Realising, of course, that this is Japanese, it's still hard for me to wrap my head around this being a cartoon from the 70s with T for Teen levels of sexual suggestiveness and nudity.
Ever since Cutie Honey was a magical girl manga and tv series that aimed for young boys, there was also a magical girl manga that aimed for young boys too which is Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc that were imprint in Shonen Jump+
Unfortunately, this claim is wrong. It was Mahou no Mako-chan in 1970. Some ecchi scenes were later replicated in Cutie Honey and Majokko Megu-chan. Unfortunately, virtually nobody knows about Mako-chan. And to be honest, the one that litterally started the trend was Go Nagai's Harenchi Gakuen (manga, 1969) and we could also add Mine Fujiko from Lupin III (1967).
Wow! I haven't seen this for a loooooong time. Like 30 years. I do not remember it looking so primitive, but I'm sure I didn't notice at the time. What a trip back in time!
Kono goro hayari no onna no ko Oshiri no chiisana onna no ko Kocchi wo muite yo HANI- Datte nandaka Datte datte nan da mon Onegai onegai kizutsukenaide Watashi no HA-TO wa CHUKUCHUKU shichau no Iya yo iya yo iya yo mitsumecha iya- HANI- FURASSHU! This is perfect! I can't stop laughing at this intro. It's a perfect mix of sexual masculinity and feminity through the guise of anime. Brilliant creators!
I cant even believe cutie honey is this old. I have heard literally no one ever mention it and I only stumbled on the newer op by chance years back. This is awesome

For some reason this feels much longer than 90 seconds
because it has more action and plot to it than most of other openings
ikr
It's probably the framerate.
Me too jaja
I think it's because they have two verses (with refrain) in the 90 seconds, a lot of anime openings only have one verse and refrain in the song.
I can't believe that this franchise of a simple android girl fighting evil with various disguises/forms and as the Warrior of Love is now *half a century old.*

I never seen the Original Cutey honey from the 70's but I loved watching the series from the 90's. She is a terrific woman a one woman army so many different beautiful forms her warrior form is really sexy and she is a tough fighter.
This is where the henshin began that made up the Magical Girl genre! And before the magic of Luna Pen/Disguise Pen. Toei never fails to shine!
Great intro. i love the female version of Devilman cameo.
thank you, for a moment i was young again

My favorite version of this opening
One of the best 70's shows in the anime. A lot of people should watch it sometime. It's very funny, although it's episodic. I recommend it.
Ashita no joe is the best 70s anime and any decade in general.
It's true, but I haven't never said that Ashita no Joe wasn't the best 70's show.
I live inside your house in general? That's a stretch.
Batracio Inconformista Ashita no Joe is not the best anime. Far from it.
Batracio Inconformista Rose of Versailles.
再放送は夕方にやってましたから子どもの自分も見れました。友だち同士で「わー」とか「うー」とか言いながら見ましたね笑
bro this op is insane 💀
Man this intro sure is catchy and I like it, beside the first opening of uresi yatsura and fist of the north star. So far all the 70s anime I saw and some of the intros of others are catchy. :D
Amazing that she is been around for Fifty years and she is so timeless and very beautiful and sexy no matter what version of her.❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️
if someone could make a future funk/vaporwave song out of that, that would be nice. Tnanks. I'll wait here

Go Nagai. You might not know his name, but you know his work. He invented mecha manga and he invented magical girl manga. Hell, his manga "Violence Jack" was one of the many inspirations for the show Samurai Jack. At least the line, "They call me Jack."
Cutie Honey theme song (English) lyrics
(I wrote them myself.)
Who's the lucky girl with the power and the talent
Showing off her curves as she struts like a model?
She's the girl known as Honey
Flash your way as you fight for love just like you do
Cutie Honey! Cutie Honey!
She's the girl who'll save the day
Evil doers, better watch what you say
She will come and take you away.
Oh watch out! Oh Watch Out! Oh Watch out!
She is gonna get you!
HONEY FLASH!
Boys will turn their heads as she walk by and pass them
She can show her style when she makes her first impression
She's the girl known as Honey
Flash your way as you fight for love just like you do
Cutie Honey! Cutie Honey!
She's the girl who'll save the day
Evil doers, better watch what you say
She will come and take you away.
Oh watch out! Oh Watch Out! Oh Watch out!
She is gonna get you!
HONEY FLASH!
Spoken: I will change your life!
That part from 10 to 16 seconds in is so addicting.
Edit: and Honey appealed to boys with action!
@@ashgaylebanawa9072 Need more magical girls who will brutalize their enemies when needed.

Best intro ever...
Very smooth animation as per 70s standard, They did it all before computerization
This is absolutely awesome nyo!
Realising, of course, that this is Japanese, it's still hard for me to wrap my head around this being a cartoon from the 70s with T for Teen levels of sexual suggestiveness and nudity.
Actually the 70s Cutey Honey toned down the gross out humor lesbian stereotypes and much of the violence but Miss Alphonne’s crush on Honey
Ever since Cutie Honey was a magical girl manga and tv series that aimed for young boys, there was also a magical girl manga that aimed for young boys too which is Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc that were imprint in Shonen Jump+
The anime that started the "sexy" Fan service

This is perfect! I can't stop laughing at this intro. It's a perfect mix of sexual masculinity and feminity through the guise of anime. Brilliant creators!
Everyone says its magicial girl anime but unironically its actually shonen anime with female protagonist
Yeah moreover fan service isn't commun in magical girl animes
@@benjad92 but its also magical girl anime.transformation sequence and all.
It’s both magical girl and shonen!
God i love this show! 1970s in a nutshell
OMG I was 1 year old when this came out XD
I cant even believe cutie honey is this old. I have heard literally no one ever mention it and I only stumbled on the newer op by chance years back. This is awesome
