    The Transverse Ligament test assess for upper cervical spine instability usually due to trauma. The transverse ligament ensures that the dens of C2 stays in contact with the anterior arch of the atlas.

    Hi. I though Transverse Ligament Stress Test and Anterior Shear Test are two different tests?

      @@Physiotutors Yes. I saw this on the Orthopedic Physical Assessment, Magee p. 176-177. According to the description, Transverse Ligament Stress Test includes lifting of the head and Anterior Shear Test is more like applying a postero-anterior central vertebral pressure (PACVP).

    I have tinnitus all the time when i think about it,Pain in my neck sometimes when im trying to sleep and when i lift my shoulders and traps upward,they start to tremble when i bring them down,does this mean i have it

      I have to tinnitus too after a head injury. I think it may be related to cervical instability!!

      Might also be a different condition causing vertigo.

    What do you mean by this test is positive? If you feel a lump in your throat/compression etc that means you have instability or dont?

      Positive = indication of the disease you are testing for.
      Yes, the feeling of a lump in your throat can be one of the signs for instability.

    Since 16 months i have issues like Light head , vertigo's when i move my head many time , Visual snow fall , tingling in my shoulders and hands , and slight tmj ...but my cervical mri is normal, many doctors said i have no problem just strengthen your neck muscles and everything will be fine...so what should i do now

      Maybe try strengthening your neck muscles...

      The occiput (C0) and the atlas (C1) are translated anteriorly. In case of a torn transverse ligament, this will give compression on the dura mater by the dens of C2.
