Ahoy everyone!
My name is Nike and I have been living and sailing on my sailboat Karl since 2013. After a massive refit marathon, I finally cast off the lines and learnt to solo sail my 37-foot Reinke Super 10 that I called "Karl". I am publishing videos (at the moment every two weeks) about the ups and downs of living, repairing and sailing my boat.
Since January 2022, I have a new permanent crew member: my furry friend Boga. When I started out, I did not know much about boat repair or solo sailing. Since I am still out there, I hope that my story inspires others, to chase their dreams, even if they might think they are not cut out for it. There is always a way, so I'll see you out there!

Thanks to everybody who has supported the creation of these video and has shared this epic adventure with me so far. It would not have been the same without you!

I see you are Brave, encouraging, leader, business, strong, mechanic, team player, fun, caring, longstanding warm hearted person...bendiciones...m
Years of following and very much enjoying your version of life on the hook. You contruct a realistic approach that is safe and relatable... "but more about that....next time" is just fantastic....
I save up a month or even 6 weeks to be able to appreciate you while enjoying a binge watch. Your such a wonder , and i love your sharing. Thank you. I'm happy to see you through all that comes your way love.
I like the look of the netting. Somehow it adds to Karl’s patina of travels and adventures. The weather cloths around the cockpit will help keep you warm as required….. Great video!
he actually "came" with a net, but it was quite run down and I took it off. It takes some getting used to for sure...
Great video, your an awesome lady Nike !
thanks John!
Good to see that you take good care of the dog and her safety, she's a cute one, love her ears!
😉😂
Your excitement on the scratchies in that little bar was hilarious...
😂🤣
Thx a lot for taking us with you!
👍👍👍
Ty Nike
Thanks for posting!
Yes, "letting the water return to the water..." was a fundamental sea lesson one mentor shared with me.
You possibly added "and keeping other things aboard..." like pups! Also was thinking about Dr. Sheddy too... presently bouncing around the Leeward Islands of the NE Caribbean, and find the population and health of pups could use her works!
Cheers, SV Good Karma as Grins
Beautiful stories well edited and narrated. Thank you for bringing us along.
Thank you!
you are very welcome!
Great job on the netting !! …..and for not getting deported !!
yeah, I am glad that worked out smoothly
Paul’s favorite hole in the wall looks like the type of place I’d look for. A place to blend in with the locals.
yes, it is a lovely spot and the people there were super welcoming. They also seem to invest heavily in lottery tickets ;)
😂😂
When I was in Sevilla, Spain, I found something similar.
There was 2 things on the menu:
1) Caña (con alchool). - (A small beer with alchohol).
and
2) Caña sin alchool. (A small beer without alchohol).
FYI, If you say cerveza they will know you're a turist.
@@charonstyxferryman here they say "chela" ;)
OMG I just love you so much.
I think the netting looks good.
I think the cloth around the cockpit will grow on you as soon as it is windy or bad weather picks-up,
Think of all the pockets you could sow on them!
🙂
Good job on the webbing. Good local flavor. Thanks
ur very welcome!
I love travelling to the "off the beaten path" places. Much better experiences to tell back home!
Safety net, barriers, passport. Some local food & beer.
Liked the Zig Zig Zig Zag Zag Zag explanation 😂❤
Sounds like Nike may write a short song with this as a refrain...
Market, ppl and food look awesome. Enjoyed the video.
For never doing it before, your doing great! Your boat, your dog your time, no worries!
thx! I watched a good "how to" video ;)
Conducir en Tapachula is about quién le echa más cojones!! 😂😂🙏🙏🙏.
Paul should write a book/web page of his favorite hole in the walls throughout Central America. I’d buy it! Cheers!
he sure should!!!!
Very good Video 👍 👍
lovely video ... I am envious ;-)
Horrible dichotomy! Not wanting your videos to end, and yet not being able to wait for the "...next time". I love it!
that made me smile 😘
It looks like Karl has the perfect rails to support that netting.
So glad U we able to extend your visa! Safe travels ❤
I love a good market.
me toooooo!
That's skookum looking netting, nice job!
Putting that netting on is so much fun...not! But we found that not only does it keep our pers onboard, it also prevents other things from going overboard. We have solar panels on the area between the stern pulpit and the gates. I made cloth gate panels with the wire gate going through the top and shock cord at the bottom. I haven’t put the netting on the stern yet but probably will soon.
It was good to finally get a net around the outside of the boat. I enjoyed your tour of the town you gave us, thank you. Great job on your show and the editing. Maybe ask for people to subscribe and get over the hundred thousand mark! I want to see it happen for you.
It's always sweet.
14:48 🥰🥰🥰
You could stitch "karl" on the cloth at the stern. I like the netting. A question for the street vendor, how does he know what cows breath tastes like 😮.
that may take an entire video to tell the story of...
@@koborkutya7338 ooh No thanks , i shudder at the thought

👏👏👏
My OCD is going crazy seeing no cotter pins inside the shroud turnbuckle ! Ahhhhhh !
😲upsi!
"taste like cows breath" PSML. Onwards!
Clever little Boca looking after her momma 🙂
she does...! Such a good little companion always looking after me.
Ha! First to like and comment! Great job on the netting. Now you're ready for the 'Vendée Globe'.
now you will able to get some goats and chickens for the boat
The internet is a no judgement zone😀.
🤣that must be a different internet that you use
Great video!!!! You should work for Nat Geo.
Yeah, a dog walking up sticking their nose on food products for sale isn't appealing. Not to mention the flies. No fear, I have no desire to travel there.
Thanks for sharing.
I am on a nearly 4 year visa overstay in indonesia on my 37 footer . Caused by the past 4 years of mayhem. Oh i dont just stay in indo. I go all over asia all illegal entrys now.But i tried legal entrys 3 years ago first. Then last year again. All denied.
But no one cares. My next step is australia for a attempt at a legal entry since all of asia has denied my entrys. But i did manage to get a online visa for australia. Hope i get in. I want to start paying visa fee again and live like 1999
Boa tarde!!!! Poderia por gentileza passar o nome do canal de sua amiga da qual comentou no vídeo?
Animals are products of their environment.. that said she has better awareness and sea legs than any human.. confusion is about to happen for her.. maybe it was late in doing but maybe it taught her that it's not needed now
she was indeed doing quite well without it. But at the same time, I did worry...and sometimes I might take a nap when she is outside and I don`t want to wake up and she is gone 😬
At .14 seconds you have no split pins on the bottle screw of your standing rigging.
👍👍❤️
German engeneering... 😊
perfect.. transcribe the audio and it is written..... simple.. a book series>. g
Such pleasant memories!
And I thought it was tp.
there is no such thing as 5 min job on a boat
😁 so VERY true!!
