In this DBD video we're going to take a look back to see how BHVR's refusal to address horrible map and loop design early on has ruined the current version of the game in 2024. It's a cascade of problems and of course SBMM has made it all even worse.

On the topic of the liscensing stuff, is that they already tapped into the classic horror fans too much with Michael, Freddy, Bubba (Etc.). And I think they need to tap into other forms of horror like other games which both Silent Hill and Resident Evil were huge successes, they need to just do more of those I feel. But yes maps really do stink and the more recent ones have been some of the worst.

I 100% agree they need to reach out to more video game franchises. Like even the most obscure license or game would be cool, even if all it brings in are skins, an event, a tome, something. It doesn't have to be a full on chapter every time. I wouldn't mind if they released just a map as a chapter. Like I want the Overlook Hotel from Stanley Kubrick's The Shinning because of the supernatural horror nature of it. Granted I wouldn't mind having Shelly Duvall as Wendy as the survivor, but I'd settle just for the map.

I agree it's definitely map design, but it's also the hard nerf to perks. Instead of reworking perks that are almost never used to keep them in line with current meta perks, they butcher and kill the meta. They're basically removing How people want to play and picking one side over the other based on what side whines and screams the loudest. They're removing fun out of the game on top of the SBMM

@@6ToesHeACreature Only in the top 10%. Most players would happily run fun/silly/weird perks if they were occassionally strong. That Vittorio perk that gives you gen speed if the chase in nearby? Useless. But make it 20% speed? Then it would be useful. But the fact that the chase perk gets like 6%, when they left Prove Thyself at 15% for ages despite it being far easier to utilise. Chase perk with new radius and 15% speed would be occasionally cool to run.

After 6 years of playing myself and over 6k hours, you have discussed many reasons I left the game months back. Especially with things Otz pointed out during the Q/A have shown the dbd devs have no plans to ever truly listen to the player base without management change that would allow someone better to rise up or the devs truly get desperate enough to listen to their few remaining players to try and bring back the game.

I’ve been gone since onryo came out. Keep in mind I’ve been here since nurse and doctor came out. The game isn’t stale as much as there isn’t a comp scene so there’s no place for me. I either gets stomps or get stomped especially if I want to play a weaker killer. More importantly we need 2v8. Allowing killer to no feel alone would make a major difference and surrvior would feel less bad because getting tunneled down is way less likely.

I don't think you directly said it but another side effect of all the new changes is it is killing killer variety. The game is also being pushed in a direction that killers only play style will be to just chase which also hurts killer variety. Playing weaker killers is such a bad time right now that the majority of matches have ether a Chucky, Wesker, Nurse or Blight. The game is getting some of the best updates in its history but that just shines a brighter light on the parts of this game that need work like maps.

I agree with everything but I think another topic that’s relevant is them trying to make everything balanced. DBD in its most balanced state sucks the entire soul out of the game because now people think they need to play competitively every match rather than just playing for fun. When there were broken things on both sides, that’s when DBD was peak. Everyone could use broken stuff that made each game unique and have its own personality.
A good example of a current game using this design philosophy is The Finals. Almost everything in that game is absurdly overpowered, which is why it’s so fun. There’s so much variety and there’s no meta. Every team uses different overpowered setups but all of these also have overpowered counters.
DBD has just become a boring, stale, and soulless game that clearly only prioritizes bad players and making money :/

Blight is very worrying, he's addons rework is pretty much a case of changing the issue to different flavor, but this flavor being tastier to more Blight players (those addons seem kinda skilless, while equally strong).
STBFL is basically a Trickster rework done to perk - they have no understanding what's the issue for either side, so they changed it in a way that will make it even worse for both (survivors will face even more tunneling, obsession will have next to zero interaction with killer, while killers will have worse perk to work with and could potentially get screwed by specific perk combo on survs, which probably will become a staple for bully squads (considering how they love to make Trappers and likes miserable, and those are killers who really need it)).

Sure the maps might be a problem... But I wholly agree with your later statements about sbmm killing the game. Supposedly, when you play a new killer, the mmr is supposed to be lower than your average so you can learn the killer, right? 3 new killers in a row I got swfs with 10x my hours who roll my 550 hr ass. For multiple matches in a row. Sbmm gave me harder games on new killers than I get on my killers I'm experienced with. It's clearly broken. I've seen the same story with new players 50 hours in, getting sabo swfs who body block and flashlight spam these truly new baby players who simply cannot learn how to play and suffer, and hate the game for it. There needs to be better separation of queues for players new to the game or new to a killer, separate from general queue where they get these massive skill differences thrown at them *while learning*.

  • @ryanlutes9833
    @ryanlutes9833 8 месяцев назад +6

Yeah it's frustrating that BHVR still doesn't seem to understand fundamental problems with map design after all this time. Garden of Joy's window is still busted, Eyrie of Crows and Mother's Dwelling are still a bit too big, Haddonfield gen placement has been completely busted for both sides at some point. they're making loops on Ormond stronger for some reason. The Game still has a million pallets and minimal gameplay for M1 killers.
They've thankfully shrunk some of the biggest maps, I actually think the Gas Heaven rework was decent. The main building is still really strong but you can at least patrol gens easier with more line of sight. But now they're adding just.. so many ways to get Haste for both killer and survivor that it renders those changes meaningless. A survivor with Adrenaline + Hope can easily run from one corner of a medium sized map to the exit gates with no risk, so making end game plays isn't worth it compared to just tunnelling.
And for some reason, the matchmaking system punishes you for performing well by being more likely to send you to maps you struggle on, as if dealing with busted map offerings wasn't bad enough. BHVR also still has not addressed the latest wave of cheaters. It's possible they're collecting data for another ban wave, but it's been a couple months at this point.
Finally, all the base-kit mechanics and lack of a decent tutorial are making the game more and more difficult for beginners to get into. Base kit BT and the anti-facecamp aren't necessarily bad, but try explaining how they work to a beginner who's already trying to figure out what to do in chase, the hundreds of perks, dozens of maps, every killer power... It's too much to ask people to spend hundreds of hours bashing their head against the wall before they pick up the basics.

I agree that map design seems to address very little for either side. the only other thing I'd bring up as a core game issue is the structure of matches themselves. I am unfortunately only a 500 some hour mostly killer player so I guess that's my disclaimer, but that being said, imho one of the issues I have with the game is that I think the way hooks work is what leads to tunneling, and to a lesser extent, camping. when I very first began playing dbd, I assumed that I should defend hooks. it felt like a hard won objective and it seemed like what i should do. little did I know that not only is that extremely boring and unfun for the survivors, camping actually wasn't even beneficial for me. the way that hooks work in this game, survivors are stuck motionless until rescued, and quickly eliminated if new and struggling, which is punishing for new players and just not very fun. yet, tunneling is the single most effective thing killers can do and like I stated with camping, tunneling feels intuitive to do as killer. I think this has a lot to do with the momentum that putting someone on a hook gives the player. which is a really strange federal watch list sentence to say. again, I'm not very good at dbd or well versed as a lot of others, but imho I think a change to this structure that gives survivors something productive and interesting to do instead of being stuck on hook, and accumulates rewards for the killer without focusing on eliminating people from the match befofe it's over... I think that would solve these problems better than nerfing perks or powers or changing movement or gen stats. admittedly this may be too hard to implement.

I think in general the motionless nature of the objectives in the game feel like a big design mistake. Survivors are immobilized when being hooking or when repairing generators, the killers is incentivized to stay in an area with hooks and certain generators and therefor the survivors are locked into this area too, nullifying large swaths of the map in the process. An addition while being immobilized, you literally cant do anything (skillchecks are boring), and staying in just a tiny area of the map is boring too, which leads to the most optimal territorial plays in the game being also literally most boring type of play. Which all in all makes sweaty play just really angry at the game because they are not having fun, which fuels more toxicity down the line and it goes on.

    • @CharlesFreck
      @CharlesFreck 8 месяцев назад

@@KatyaAbc575 This. You're a killer, you've got a loose 3 gen, but you're mobility. You have a teleport or a dash, so you can patrol okay. But the survivors have 2 safe areas you haven't killed the palletes in yet and decent windows and connections which they always just run to. So now, you've gotta spend the next 10+ minutes patrolling these gens, slowly stalling progress, until survivors mess up finally. And in this new patch, Killers are going to lose the ability to effectively stall, so survivors will win in these situations literally 100% of the time. So now you're gonna have to specifically not chase unless you're getting rid of palettes or you'll lose in the end game if they have even 1 strong loop to stall you with.

@@slippers8000 BHVR removing the BP boost in BBQ was such a stupid change. They could've changed to "everytime you hook a different survivor than the previous you hooked, gain a BP bonus or something else". I think a lot about Icefrog's philosophy to make changes in Dota 2, which are buffing stuff which is seen as weak and tweaking stuff which is currently broken. That was how the 6.88 patch became so beloved by the whole community before being replaced with the 7.00 version. You’re right about what makes the game unfun (being forced to play every match like a comp match or you’re throwing) but it’s not maps or even anti gameplay killers that cause it, it all leads back to sbmm, and coconut is right, as long as the devs have a huge ego about removing something they “worked hard on” their game will slowly die

I dont think SBMM is the issue, forced SBMM is. If there was a ranked SBMM queue, and a casual random queue, people could choose to play competitively or on a more chill level. Right now trying to learn new killers or return is hell because SBMM is inescapable hell that hasn't dropped in a year and pits me against P100's

This is probably the best up-to-date video about DBD's flaws. Even things I didn't realize have been pointed out here. I just hope the game gets better, but we also have a community that doesn't want to help the game either, kinda like the ones who put my Skull Merchant rework into the negative upvotes on the DBD subreddit, like do people really like 3-genning that much that they hate the idea of a unique power that still has utility in the match while not being a super anti-loop?

Personally, I play dbd way less than I used to nowadays, and I started to see that decline ever since I began to have more and more streaks of absolutely miserable games with killers which I like (just for the record, I played both sides equally, so I essentially started stopping from playing half of the game) but were ultimately weak by design or map dependent. Alien chapter for example was the last time I played my former main (Legion) simply because map design in general is straight up hostile to this killer, and it is more evident in recent updates. Switching to artist rejuvenated me for a little bit but it just wasn't the same.
Then there is of course toxicity in the community. Now, I don´t mind losing but what I absolutely hate are common petty players doing everything in their power to make you feel bad about it, and one day I just told to myself "No, I cant do this anymore, why should I be miserable if I can have good time somewhere else."
So I would say it is combination of all three things, that also affect each other: SBMM (leading to optimizing fun out of gameplay), map design (self explanatory), attitude of the community (partly a result of former two).

I think deep down the devs at BHVR know that SBMM is slowly killing their game, but they are sticking to it out of a twisted principle because it took them so long to make it. So because, in their eyes, they don't want to admit a system they sunk time and money into isn't working, they're stubbornly sticking with it.
Trying to compensate with shitty map and killer design philosophies, like really, their idea of updating a map is to just add random shit to block LoS, pixel shame killers and cuck survivors over by not making it obvious which waist-high shrubs can and cant be passed right through? 😅

Yeah after the Asylum "rework" I kinda just gave up because chapel still can spawn the broken god window setups and ward still has those stupid windows where what actually changed with the main building was 1 breakable wall and removal of 3 of the 5-6 potential pallets. Then we go to garden where the biggest issue of that map was the amount of safe pallets and the god window. The god window didn't even get touched just the bandaid of a breakable wall and I genuinely don't notice any less pallets on the map.

I honestly wish this game's player base would just trickle off quickly and disappear. BHVR are one of the least deserving tone-deaf developers that do NOT deserve a loyal player base. Considering how repetitive the game is, I don't know why people still play it apart from the battle pass, which is like a cruel loop of "free premium" once you buy it once, for nothing but mediocre skins by a design crew that clearly have no imagination or skill to make you want to BUY the skins. I'm sorry but I've never been tempted to buy a skin in this game, they are all complete garbage.

in my honest opinion. I think the games biggest issue right now is lack of gameplay modes. I just get burnt out of the gameplay loop of doing generators and hooking survivors for the 4k. We've had the same mode for so long and have optimized TF out of it on both sides.
What would make me come back is something new to do. They have an amazing cast of characters, and a great playground of maps to implement some truly amazing game modes. Its fun roleplaying as your favorite killers from your favorite horror films, or being chased by your favorite horror icons with a survivor you love. However, They can add new characters , perks and maps all they want, but in the end its the same gameplay I'm burnt out on, not the characters. I do agree map design is a big issue, but I disagree with it being the number one issue.
I just wish there was a little more "ambition" with the game. Instead of playing it safe with retaining the game modes that made them popular, to branch out into other modes for the game. Maybe behavior should just make Dead By Daylight 2. so they can rebuild the game from the ground up to make implementing things not take years.

I swear, devs just want to kill off that game. That or their pride will be their demise (maybe they think they're too big to fall or something). It's so funny they're putting so much resources to expand the DBD universe and media ammount, while the main game all came from is in terrible state and will likely only get worse.
Trickster "rework" is the best example on how they completely don't understand the game and its players. They literally made killer that was irritating to play as and frustrating to verse into more iritating to play as and more frustrating to verse, while advertising this change as making him better for both sides.
Also remember, those first 3 anti gameplay killers were not only antigameplay because of their free hits - all 3 were (and 1 even still is) perfect 3 genners capable of holding games hostage, to the point they were forced to rework how generators worked (which I'm sure won't cause any problems in the long run, like I don't know, survs somehow finding a way to hold killers hostage - the locker bug showed they can be pretty exstatic about that).
Oh, and it's worth reminding how they're constantly putting new invisible walls to prevent Demogorgon to do specific thing, which also recently showed heavily affects Twins as well (to the point where Victor becomes unusable - like that recent pallet "bug", I'm pretty sure it's just an invisible wall placed on all pallets because Demogorgon could land on some - or even better, maybe it wasn't even Demo, but Blight or Chucky who are also prone to abuse lack of invisible walls).

It looks like Blight is buffed 🤣 I truly believe the turning point would be 100% starting with map/loop design. Nothing can be done until gameplay loops are changed. The whole balance of the game depends on exactly this. How long did it take for the devs to admit that blight needed adjustments or Hillbilly's heat was useless. Lets get them maps modified!!! 😁

Hey Choy! I doubt this comment will gain any traction, but I wanted to type this up, to share my experience as a RETURNING player to DBD.
For reference, I originally bought DBD when it was on sale on July 5th, 2021 because some of my friends wanted to play it for my birthday. This was of course shortly after the Resident Evil chapter got released, and I was eyeing down the game ever since, since I'm a RE fanboy. Anyway, we played some survivor games, and it was fun, but I remember very quickly getting frustrated, because I'd be going against several different killers who had fully built kits, meanwhile, my friends and I had absolutely blank loadouts, and had no idea what to do. But the game retained my interest, and I showed my hand at killer. Ironically, I didn't have an interest in playing Nemesis, but instead I opted to play The Legion, because through some gameplay I watched on Otz's channel, they really seemed cool, and they peaked my interest. However, I quickly learned that without buying the other DLC's, and without spending the many hours it takes to prestige a killer ONE time, that this game was going to be very unfun, and the game didn't give me enough of a reason to go prestige killers like Demo or Nemesis or some of the other killers with meta perks at the time, so after about a month of really trying to get good at the game and have fun while survivor teams with a lot more experience than I had, and better perks than I had completely destroying me every game, I just cut my losses, and agreed to never tough the game again.
That is, until September 2023, where my current girlfriend convinced me to play the game with her, because turns out, she really likes the game, and wanted to share it with me. So I hoped on, and for those of you who play the game, you know that this was the time that MFT was DESTROYING the meta. Thankfully, they nerfed the perk, but this was also around the time that 3 genning was rampant, and a lot of other gameplay issues. Playing survivor was unfun, because besides my gf, the other 2 survivors were typically useless, and killers at this point had such overpowered builds, that I was lucky to see a single survivor escape. since then however, I've been trying to play the game whenever I can, because I do enjoy the concept, and design of the game (even though balancing is pretty much on fire right now), and I've been back to playing killer oh Legion, and Ghostface. However, I missed the time when Jolt was a common perk, and now I have zero ways to regress gens, and every time I try to play killer, I get gen rushed, and lose.
This game, is completely impossible for new, or returning players to play. They give survivors zero common exhaustion perks, or boons, or whatever else they can do in this game at this point, and they give killers zero ways to regress gens unless you buy dlc, and/or sink the roughly 1.5mil bloodpoints it takes to prestige a killer once. Meanwhile, I get queued up against swfs and p100 killers and survivors all the time, and get ran through. It is really hard to be motivated to play this game, which sucks, because overall, the idea and concept of this game is exactly what I've wanted in a videogame, and after BHVR's AMA on Reddit, it's clear that they have no interest in improving the gameplay experience for new/returning players, that don't have ever single character prestiged.
Tldr; This game isn't fun, and I have to talk myself into playing it. For all intensive purposes, I hope that this game improves, but maybe BHVR won't learn their lesson, and hop off their ego train until it dies.

I think customers want the game to not have sbmm and have been quite vocal about it for some time. I also think folks want new kinds of gameplay (which they're working on if the survey is anything to be believed as well as the announcement of the first new game mode). I think Coconut's right on some things, that some chaos is nice and keeping the game casual and a little silly is a positive push (e.g. the Nic Cage chapter went over quite well, and given the time in which he was introduced, I think that is a good signal to wanting something a little less serious). I'm not big on the competitive scene, but I also think playing in optimal ways and gearing into that mindset also causes some difficulty. It might send mixed signals to the company about what people want? I don't know for sure. I don't have anything to back that up, so that could just be blah blah blah. But if people try to do things in a more competitive way and it draws a crowd, the company might've listened. I dunno. Nice vid, Choy.

I bought Alien, played him about ten times, got pissed off at the flamethrowers. I asked myself "why does this killer supply his own countermeasures?" Then switched back to Nemesis, who has an almost identical power with no self-sabotage. This is also how Nemesis became my main, being able to hit over objects or pallets, and even around corners with good drags. Mainly because he grinds up pallets like a woodchipper the second you hit mutation two.
Chucky is too easy, every use of his power is pretty much a guaranteed hit, especially with the addons that take time off the cooldown for a hit, and time off the cooldown for a miss. I hit prestige 4 with him and haven't touched him since.
I don't know how they can do it, but I wish they would change the guaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet toguaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet toguaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet toguaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet toguaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet toguaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet toguaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet toguaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet toguaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet toguaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet toguaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet toguaranteed safety pallet to guaranteed safety pallet to gameplay loop that killers without a way to beat pallets have to suffer.

I guess that they try to make DbD a franchise and not just "That Game". For example when they did the last Anniversary Stream, almost half the runtime was about the DbD Board-Game. But the Devs also have their pride, yeah and even are arrogant and brash. Like the Dev Mandy unironically wondering why DbD isn't on PHubs most searched Video Game List or BHVR literally begging with multiple Tweets to vote for them for some Steam Award.
DbD will never take of in it's current state, it's missing so many Things und QoL-Stuff that are a must-have in a Live-Service-Game. And Things like Graphics and Animations are horrible and the Games Code is a Mess. If they wanna see the game and the franchise take off, they need to completly remake the Game. Not a DbD 2, just shut the game down for a while and overhaul Graphics, Animations etc.

Been saying for years that maps are the thing that's costing the game balance wise. Nice to hear someone else talk about it. There are so many maps that are just impossible to play as an m1, let alone a 110 killer. Especially considering most survivors will say doing anything but gens is throwing and will leave you to die should you not do them fast enough. This isn't just a killer issue though, survivors should never load into a map and have half it just be empty space and debris. It's unreal how awful the maps are in the game, and how many people still somehow defend them. This is an issue for both sides, and if we ever want the game to feel better there needs to be a better back and forth, and chases need to be chases again. Not just, use exhaust perk, hold W w/ Windows. Find main building, be safe 100%. Or the latter, zone out, hit, back to hook.
There are so many maps I load into and just give up immediately because I know a toddler could loop them and keep me busy while everyone else does gens. Granted those are just throwaway games to test things, screw around, but after awhile you really just want to play the game. I've had games where I get two downs immediately and 3 gens pop through Pain Res. I'd get across the map, but most of them are so big and full of clutter unless I'm a killer with mobility I just have to watch the gen pop and my Pop go to waste. There's so much fun in closing the hatch, seeing the doors across the map and knowing that you cannot feasibly get to them in time before the survivor just pops it and dips out teabagging you like they did something.
Breakable walls were the worst thing BHVR has ever added to this game, and I cannot believe they just keep adding more. Anytime we hear a map rework we just know it's going to get more pallets, more debris, and more walls. BHVR has no clue what they're doing when it comes to maps, and at this point they'd rather something thematic than functional. This bleeds into a lot of gameplay elements as well. It's fine to be accurate, but when that accuracy is at the cost of fun and counterplay it's not a good idea.

My two biggest things outside of maps and MMR that are keeping me away from wanting to play like I used to is gen regression perks and ping. I've always been strongly against crazy gen regression perks because that contributes to killer players becoming lazy. Maybe 1 out of 10 of the killers I play against seem skilled at the character they're playing. The other times are because they were carried by their Pain Rez, Pop, etc or because one of my teammates gave up because someone went down too early and the gen that they had at 90% got assaulted by 3 different perks and then they get chased so the gen is regressed to nothing. I started playing when all you needed to have a good game is to put on Corrupt and then just play well but I just don't ever see that anymore. Also, I basically only play a couple killers now and then because survivor just completely sucks as I'm so punished due to my ping (maybe also a console thing) and that's literally something that I just can't attain where I live. But I see the big names on RUclips being halfway across a pallet and they don't get hit. I can fully predict a killer, make the correct play and I'll still get hit when I'm on the complete other side of the pallet. And if I compensate by doing anything early, the killer has enough time to read me to hit me the other way, so... The most fun aspect of playing survivor feels like a luxury that I don't have. So what do I have to do? Prethrow, hold W, and sit on gens. 😞 (or only play killer)

I think this game being out for 7+ years just leads to people learning how to optimize and play more competitively. Seems to be the same thing in other games like League.
Most people play to win and if the other side starts playing more competitively they react to it.
This imo makes the game more stale/ boring. The game design doesn't help tho

  • @VernulaUtUmbra
    @VernulaUtUmbra 8 месяцев назад +2

Personally, I find Survivor too boring to play for extended periods of time, and Killer is far too stressful to actually enjoy. You're stuck on the back step every time the game starts and by the time you hit the "balanced" killrate of 2 you finally got to the point where you are able to slow down and enjoy the game only for it to be over. No matter what you want to play, you're stuck because of how the other side wants to play. Play a meme Killer build? Gens are done in 3 minutes so you didn't get to do anything (and the Survivors "rub it in your face" that you didn't kill them despite not entirely trying to). Play a meme Survivor build? You get camped/tunneled and didn't get to play the game anyway.
Like sure, maps are a problem, but I could always look past that. Then hackers started being able to get ahold of your IP and shit through the game and it just became more of a liability to play the game than anything else.

I completely agree with you. They have no idea how to make maps among other things. I firmly believe the DbD dev team is incompetent, aside from the art & graphic design department. They appear leaderless and don't have vision of what DbD should be. They seem to not know or care how to actually improve the game, so they generally make random arbitrary changes so they can justify their jobs and say they did something. They are going to ruin Ruin _again_.
Honestly I've been waiting for DbD to get knocked down a peg or a worthy competitor to rise and light a fire under BHVR's butt to actually fix the game and their dev team. Maybe now is the time.
I have a lot of spare tome on my hands and I am not playing DbD. I just don't want to play and when I do play I last 3 games tops before I just don't want to play anymore, even if I have nothing to do after.

Honestly Behaviors incompetence is killing DBD. Bugs, design philosophy, and its push towards heavy monetization instead of fixing the core game is making the player base feel burnt out. Behavior doesn’t necessarily needs to listen to everyone’s issue (some people have terrible ideas) but when everyone agrees in an issue and Behavior ignores it, that’s a problem.

I’ve played since nemesis’s release and you’re correct about everything, maps have always been poorly designed. The devs have always had a snide “I know better than you” attitude, and because of SBMM (which of course no one wanted), survivors feel as if they aren’t on a Gen they lose and killers feel as if they need to run at least 2 slowdowns or they lose. There’s no time in a DBD match for fun anymore, it’s Gen/4K speedruns. Also I play both sides so I know how painful it can be on the receiving end of these boring playstyles. As well as having played for so long, I can vouch for the fact that people usually did not Gen rush back in the day. Gen rushing still existed but a bigger percentile of people went for saves/bullied the killer which can be annoying, but you’ll most likely win if survivors are trying to bully squad because they don’t do gens.

My biggest issue with all of these maps is when I can end up breaking a pallet on a survivor maybe probably get a hit but somehow they are already at the next safe pallet 😒 I'm getting sick and tired of breaking a bunch of pallets just to get a down and run around a bunch of safe loops. I've played this game way back before any of the map designs got updated and I loved the game before but ever since they got redesigned I just hate all of them. It's like they added a bunch of pallets in safe loops to these newly designed maps and of course they're just going to cater to their survivors because they give the money for cosmetics. And don't even get me started on those stupid survive with friend teams that abuse those small objects to the killer and they run near them so they could end up hitting the object and not them because that's how the stupid game is played😒 you can't even take that off so if a survivor runs near something you are almost guaranteed to hit it. The game is a perfect example of a unbalanced map now. I used to love playing on that map when I first started playing because it was indoors and it was spooky because there weren't that many good pallets and loops but now whenever I get the game I just AFK and wait for the game to end 🙅 stop adding Killers with anti loop and just get rid of these good loops 😡😡😡

Wanting " fair " matches is what created the problem in the first place, more specifically prioritizing aesthetics and realism, I wouldn't mind an unbalanced and fun game with maps that require a more strategic looping or more favored towards killers, the last 3 maps they released are killer-sided and the survivor perks are not as strong anymore to compensate for the holes, take hawkins for example, a bad design but the old dead hard made the map enjoyable ( of course I'm a survivor main and this might be a biased argument ).

I just think players on both sides are just bored of the game especially those that have played it longer than 4 years. Dbd needs an overhaul as in storymode aka PVE mode, new ways to escape rather than just gen simulation. new mechanics for both killers and survivors.

  • @T.BG822
    @T.BG822 8 месяцев назад +1

DBD is not, nor has it ever been, a competitive game. As long as competitions and the piss-poor group that call themselves comp players genuinely have to restrict perk loadouts in order for things to be interesting, it's not going to work as a competitive scene, and anyone huffing enough copium to disagree is too far gone to care about the health of the game for everyone rather than just themselves.
I'll also say that BHVR has two approaches to design adjustments, changes, reworks, and redesigns, both of which are inimical to future-proofing and ongoing health in a game sandbox: shotgunning solutions, and prioritizing nerfs. It's these approaches that ultimately lead to SBMM (which doesn't even function as it does in other games) and even the map design issues.
We don't need one patch to fix a single issue three to six ways all at once, leading to overcorrection and revised revision of the reworks.
We don't need sticks, as time and again the DBD community has proven that those don't work: we need carrots on top of some reexamining of game fundamentals.
Both of these, applied to maps, perks, playstyles, ultimately lead to the game stagnating as more and more of the variable nature and options of the gamespace are being removed. Both of these stem directly from arrogance on the part of BHVR's design team, people who've lost the ability to understand just how far outside the playerbase their perspective has become.
Not Quite Tinfoil Hat Time: really, we'll never see a truly healthy game again until they address the static nature of hooks. They need to be mobile, like CoA, and only then can a lot of the pressure be relieved in the design sandbox to allow for the game to flow again. It'd allow the concept of dead zones for killers as well as camping to be more fluidly addressed by mitigating the circumstances of hook placement rather than going in with a brutish nerf and its equally clunky alternate nerfs, all of which fail to address core flaws in the base gamekit.

DBD is mostly not fun for me anymore. It is too frustrating. I played a bit when Alien came out and haven’t played since. Lately I’ve been feeling the pull to pick it up again but I’m not letting myself do it because I know I’ll just be miserable like always. The maps are a huge part of why the game feels awful to play these days. The GoJ “fix” from the PTB (idk if they made more changes after) is enough to convince myself not to play again.

My solution has always been for BHVR to add a map editor so that players can really test things out start making great maps. That said, I've watched so many videos where people do in-depth explanations of BHVR could completely fix certain maps, some have even been promoted by fog whisperers and still nothing is really ever changed.
Like the new Garden of Joy is nearly the exact same map as before; it's crazy how it feels like they have learned nothing.

    • @Kap01
      @Kap01 8 месяцев назад

@@TheOnlyChoy They have acknowledged that the layout of the main building itself is problematic, the rework they did is temporary, and they said they will revisit it at a later date.
They have done great work with the rebalances of Coldwind and Auto heaven maps but no one is talking about that for some reason.
A map editor isn’t really a solution though, it just lets the community do the devs work instead of letting the devs learn how to do it properly. Their latest map shows that they’ve begun to understand what they need to do when designing a map. Nostromo has the weakest fillers, main, and jungle gyms compared to every other map in the game. It has an abundance of pallets but almost none of them are safe aside from the round table pallet.

Survivor gameplay atm is either hold m1 all game sim or get tunneled and not get to play the game sim. On the occasion the killer wants to play more fair its either a stomp on the survivor side or a surv gives up early any way and the game is lost. The rare-ish fun game is the only reason I keep coming back to dbd, but at least for me it just keeps getting worse and worse. I hope whatever new gamemode they are making ends up being fun, but even that I have no hope for because the name "lights out" (if that's what its called I don't remember) insinuates some kind of stealth game and that's boring to me. I love this game so I really hope they can fix this downward trend this year.

The MOMENT loop game play became one of the core elements of player interactions between killer and survivor should of been shooting warning alarms in the devs about the map design and how monotonous it is so hard that they were all dropping to the floor and having seizures. But instead, they leaned into it entirely.
A killer should never ben in a position where they are forced to throw multiple gens because of the dastardly placement of a bit of rubble or a table or a chest high wall. None of them, even the non anti-loop killers. A survivor should not have nothing but gens to focus on when the entire ethos of the game is about hiding and escaping, you think at some point the idea of collecting parts or unlocknig doors or activating switches or looking for stuff or even just different tasks in general would enter the devs heads for things on the map but no. It's the same with the breakable walls, we get a new map placement mechanic that could REVITALIZE maps and even retroactively FIX bad maps.
wall placement could seal off entire areas, seperate overly strong sections without the killer breaking them open - meaning it's the killer choice to allow a strong loop to be accessible to players - at the cost of allowing and gianing new routes about the place. Same with survivor weak zones - acting as "traps" and map control - hell, if you want to go even further you could add a new item for survivors - they need it - that allows them to break walls themselves much more slowly, making noise and being stationary as they do it with a sort of small pause to when they can run.
    But no.
it's cool bro. Our game has had nothing but pallets and vaults since it was in fucking BETA, and that's all it ever needed. Developing map hazards...hiding places...interactables....nah...nah dog. Look, see, the players are running around this unpassable object. That won't get old, they're entertaining themselves, lol. It's all good. Like choy said, they don't want to work on maps...that's why after all the effort of adding breakable walls which would act as a great means to work and redirect/ reframe maps...they didn't use it at all besides to justify super windows and vaults with "just break the pallet bro, lol" they are essentially pallets 2.0.

The devs do listen to the community. It just takes them several months before they eventually listen.
Way back in the early days of DbD, infinite loops and pallet vacuums existed. Some of the most busted, survivor sided designs ever made. It took a while but eventually the devs got rid of these really poor and unbalanced designs. This was a thing when doctor/huntress were recent additions. Imagine how poorly balanced the game was back then.
I think the issue now is recent killer designs more than map design. Some maps are great and well balanced, some are steaming piles of doo doo.
Also, and I've always said this since this killer was released, but the Nurse has ruined the potential for this game and BHVR should retire her from the game entirely.

When Singularity was first released, I've had enough, because all I saw from his base kit is that he is best at being in 2 places at once always having the ability to make an informed decision, because even if you emp the camera, you can't stop the visual feed, thus the killer excels at holding a perimeter, and if you try to do something else, you are likely to fail. Knight, having the ability to place a guard down to lock a gen, also has the ability to hold perimeter. Onryo, back in the day, could simply spam TV's and hold a bit more sophisticated perimeter. Skull Merchant came, and holding a perimeter is her entire kit. If we discount whesker, they were one tower defense killer after another after another after another, and ALL OF THEM could hold the game hostage until time expires. When you see reports of GAMES BEING HELD HOSTAGE BY CERTAIN KILLERS THAT ARE RELEASED IN SEQUENCE, maybe it signifies a pattern, and maybe some questions need to be raised on why is that a thing that exists.
Pig, for example, has a secondary objective, but it is FINITE, disallowing her to make survivors not do gens infinitely. Knight, Singularity, Skull Merchant, Onryo, do not have such a limitation. You spent 30 seconds going for emp, back to the gen, shut cameras down and started working? Too bad, you've been seen through the feed, His takes 5 seconds to travel there and push you out and replaces the broken pod with a fresh one WITHOUT EXITING THE CHASE and probably uses it to slipstream you. Merchant sets her drone, goes away, and evebn if you remove it, guess what, she sees you and are able to make informed decision, and you can cry a river about it. Why my boy trapper does not get to see a friendly spider fang of Entity personally pointing towards asshole with a map who goes around disarming traps, but Hux and SM do? Am I the only one, who finds it a little unfair, and the 'counterplay' meaningless and obnoxious?

The dumbest thing bhvr has done from a marketing/business standpoint was waste 2 anniversary chapters back to back on boring original killers that brought 0 new ppl to dbd. Anniversary chapter is bhvr biggest event of the year. Before dredge it was 3 big licensed chapters for the anniversary events. Ex: nemesis brought 48k players on steam, next month there was 62k players. Dredge brought 49k. Next
Month dropped to 36k. Anniversary event brings a lot of players back & bhvr has wasted 2 anniversary events with dredge & singularity. 2 boring killers imo. Again, really dumb on bhvr behalf. Also, factor in the release of knight & dull merchant. Just look at steam number a month before anniversary event & month after anniversary event, the change in players numbers is sad.

its a problem, cause the most fun part are the chases, now combine that with getting nurse , spirit, blight, doctor, spirit, wesker, nurse, back to back, i cant bring myself to boot a game of surv. this side feels awful rn, having basically 4 locked in perks or an entire anti tunnel build is no where fun.
And killer is the same, its eather hard stomp cause solo q without even trying, or 3 gems pop in first chase while i took 15~ sec to down her...... but then again, you can play xeno with no perks and stomp just by how utterly busted hes anti loop is in solo q. survs then dont place often turrents or cant voice coordinate so any loop is a guaranteed hit.
And this is the camel that broke the neck, all buffs in the last patch led to killers having a free hit.- wraith rn is a hope you have a pallet near you sim. Pallet no hit.. no pallet or just window guaranteed hit.
The we go up the list and you wonder why sprint burst is the best perk in the game, or why people are starting to run heal builds with overcome.

I think the biggest issue is that there are good ideas in the new maps, cool things to take into new maps like new tile setups and stuff. EASILY the shit that makes this game unbearable currently is the way BHVR has gone about making maps “better graphically”: just throw a bunch of random garbage with collision that makes it impossible to see or traverse the map. It’s so annoying, and in a way that makes it actively worse to play both survivor and killer when normal map traversal is so clunky and obfuscated

SBMM itself has never been the problem. The problem lies in the fact that SBMM completely *exposes* everything that is wrong with this game. An interesting point of view. I look at any map as the number of different loops, so I don't mind if it's bright/yellow/long/short/big/small/etc. However, I left dbd just because every single patch they change the game significantly. Damn, I learn new things every day, due to my job and professional skills, I don't want to learn something AGAIN on weekends, I want to open a game and spend some time on relaxing. As well as this it's ridiculous how many 'invisible' pixels are on the maps. Just an example - shacks. Who could explain me why tf in 30% of them (on different maps) you can't hug the right side when you go out of the basement (or you'll get stuck at the shack's floor).
Anyway, from my point of view the best time was before 2.6.4 patch (significant changes to graphic and some other stuff ~2019 year).

I don’t have the best vision even when wearing my glasses. Things like trapper’s traps, anything during nightfall, Chucky, and Alien are almost impossible for me to see. Especially when so many loops are taller than them. I also get really bad headaches playing again doctor and Clown (mostly Doctor). I feel like the game is at a point where queue times won’t be that bad unless you’re playing someone most people just don’t like. I asked some of my friends and family who have also quit and they’ve also said a filter for killers would bring them back.
