      It controls the hydrostatic preassure and equilibrates it.

    Where is the conductor pipe then? I thought we first do spudding of the conductor. or he just omitted this info considering we knew it/ hm...

      The conductor casing is not drilled by the drill rig. It is often driven into soft ground or drilled by an auger, such as a piling rig and the cemented in. It is seldom more than 100' deep from the ground level. When the drill rig is erected it using the conductor casing to keep the unconsolidated soil and surface rock to keep from collapsing in while the surface hole is drilled. The conductor casing is set at the same time as the rat hole and the mouse hole are dug and lined with a pipe.
