Honestly I quite like the newer F1 engines than the old ones. Yes I know the old ones scream like a banshee but these V6s scream raw power especially in their downshifts. I embrace that these V6s are the future of F1 and still provide the same level of entertainment as any other F1 races of the past. It will be interesting on what happens next with F1
Yeah, absolutely they have indeed. In 2014 the first year of the hybrids they did sound great admittedly. But over the last two years or so they’ve improved quite a bit, this Honda engine honestly sounds great, particularly on downshifts.
I agree, however I think the Ferrari sf70 was the best looking individual car of the era, that livery was 🔥. Not really a fan of the matte red and black direction of the new Ferrari liveries tbh.
There are times when it's driving away on full throttle that it starts to sound like the 1980s turbos. But when it's off-throttle or on the pit limiter it sounds like a bag of nails in a washing machine (I think they run on fewer cylinders when on part-throttle or something to save fuel?).
At certain angles, the V6 Turbo whine does sound similar to the 80's turbo cars. And the popping off throttle is most likely the anti-lag on the turbos. There could be some secret reason the Honda PU does it more than the Mercedes & Renault PU, but most likely just down to their design of the components.
@@spamcan9208 I think engineering explained went over something like that, but I'm not sure if it is exactly what you're looking for. But yeah Honda has got the crackles and aggressive turbo wastegate nailed down and makes the engine sound much more aggressive like how you'd think an F1 car should instead of Ferrari which sounds like someone aggressivly blowing air out of their mouth
The television broadcasters really need to consult you about sound quality, because you get the best quality sound recording by a mile! The next thing they should do is tell their hyped up, screaming commentators to shut up so we can hear the cars. Great job as usual 👍🏻.
haha thanks a lot for the very kind comment dude! Well, to be honest their audio recording equipment is by far better than mine but it's also a 'raw' unedited audio. For sure if we could mute TV commentators the cars may actually sound better even on television but I think having just one car driving around on a circuit plus doing some little audio adjustments improve the sound and get it closer to the real experience
What mastermat said. It was a damp track. They don't have traction control, other than their own right foot. My car does the same thing since I don't have it either, makes driving in the rain fun lol
Thanks dude. Regarding the 4K, I'll see. I'm still not 100% sure if I'll upgrade to that video quality in the recent future because I see more negative aspects than positive for my needs
I'm not sure it's quite needed and worth the hard drives needed to store all those GB 😁 The quality of the camera handling and the sound are the most important here i think
Strange question Bozzy, those lovely stone houses around the track, are they owned by the circuit or private? There's a few around Imola and they all look great.
Its just the downshifts and hondas cylinder deactivation thats making those sounds. They program it to run on 3 cylinders as to save fuel in the downshifts and idle giving it a motocross sounding 2 stroke sound.
Thanks for another great video Bozzy - can't help but appreciate the beautiful landscape at the Imola circuit. Anyone know if those bricks houses seen throughout the infield sections are vacant or do people still reside in them?
You're welcome! Thanks for your comment. For what I see when I'm there in Imola they all look inhabited a part from the one at 3:16 inside the Tosa corner. That one is quite for sure empty but I don't know if there's a chance to buy it hehe
But the chassis is when they were still called Toro Rosso. The team name may have changed but the car and year it was originally registered still remains as per homologation rules. Hence why the racing point car in 2018 still registered as a Force India chassis since it was registered as a Force India at the start of the 2018 season
Thanks bozzy Do sky do something to the sound. They sound wayyyy better here. If he's true to form of his countryman I forsee some big repair bills. Hopefully not 💪👍🏴
What car does checo get to drive for pre-preseason cuz I'd think it'd only be meaningful if Honda powered and the '18 red bull was not? Maybe since he's a vet that useless Renault pu will do...
Its testing mate, he’s giving it the full beans to test himself on how he can push the limits. His F2 performances has shown he can drive precisely with high level throttle control. Judging him from his first time in an F1 car is pretty foolish tbh
I have sound related questions: What's that brapping noise on what I think is part throttle? It reminds me of those blown diffusers they used to have. (Actually like sound of it tbh) And second, why do the downshifts sound different from the upshifts? Also, the shifts in general sound "softer" than say those in the V8 era (iirc) and I'm wondering if that's what allows them to shift mid corner (unless the V8's could too)
That off or part throttle sound is the engine firing on less than 6 cylinders. I'm not sure how many, but say 3 cylinders. This is to save fuel when it isn't required to be burnt, depending on the engine braking control they want. Honda seems to have the most rough and growly sounding version of it Downshifts sound different again for the same reason, throttle kicker is blipping the downshifts on 3 cylinders. No reason why either of them can't up shift mid corner, not an issue. Gearboxes at some point moved from straight sequential boxes to seamless shift sequential, which has no appreciable shift time between gears. That maybe why it seems "soft" I don't know when that change happened though. MotoGP the manufacturers brought them in a few years ago, so I'd assume F1 had them a bit earlier, being bigger and not as much of a safety issue if it fails
This engine sounds the best from today’s F1
So it still sounds like a vaccum cleaner?
Honestly I quite like the newer F1 engines than the old ones. Yes I know the old ones scream like a banshee but these V6s scream raw power especially in their downshifts.
