    There weren’t many bands that had success that weren’t the “real deal”. By that I mean, it was a time when every band either created their own sound or innovated an existing sound to form yet another new sound. The Vietnam war framed most young men’s lives, and many later wrote songs about their experiences. John Fogerty is a Vietnam veteran. His songs reflect his thoughts, feelings and fears. They were one of the biggest bands in existence in the day. I can still sing along to most of CCR’s songs...but I respect silence and my neighbors enough to keep singing them to myself, where no one else hear.

    I love that John Fogarty is still out there performing, but this version is so incredible. I just can’t get enough of that grit and growl in his CCR days. It’s too bad that he and his brother had such a contentious relationship; otherwise, we might have had several more years of this totally awesome band. Thanks for doing both versions. • @mrhalfstep
    @mrhalfstep 3 года назад +2

    John Fogerty played the sax and electric organ on this tune. I know you're just discovering CCR, and what you need to understand is that John IS the band. Decades after this song was released, 37 years after, to be precise, I saw him in concert on the opening night of his comeback tour in Louisville, KY, after a hiatus of over 20 years from doing live performances. Completely different group of musicians and I defy you to find a single person in that theater that didn't think every song in that 28 song set list sounded just like the original recordings. This was in 2007 and this song dropped in 1970! His vocals and guitar ARE the sound of CCR. It was an amazing thing to be a part of. Once he started playing, no single person ever sat down in their seat again, until he was finished with the whole concert. John had a big solo career and recorded an album called "Centerfield", in the mid 80s, that resulted in 3 or 4 hits and, get this, HE PLAYED EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT ON EVERY SONG ON THE ALBUM!!!! You're just leavin' the station on this man and his group, but you have long, beautiful trip ahead of you. Enjoy and Peace.

    35 years old, so I’m young for a CCR fan. I’m from an old family, so I grew up listening to the classics.
    This is one of my all time favorite songs. The raw soul. The way he uses his voice to allude to the coming saxophone. This is musical poetry at its purest and highest form. Poke salad with chopped bacon scrambled eggs and a side of buttered grits with a tall cold glass of buttermilk to wash it all down.
      Then it's out the door to see the light, as the sun clears these Arkansas hills. Then all day on a John Deer tractor, with a biscuit and cold creek water for lunch in the shade of an old white oak tree.
      Then home as the sun fades behind Sugarloaf Mountain, the dust dried in rivulets on my skin. I'm close to home when I see the glow from the kitchen window.
      Forty years now, comin' home to my sweet woman, my own Lady of the Light. Fifty years ago I saw that light from a jungle where I was lost.
      Yeah, this song is special to me. I was blessed to live through a time of such wonderful music. And I'll keep listening to these old songs till it's time for me to find that other Light to lead me Home.
      It's seems good to me, that you younger folks can share this song from long ago, that y'all still care to look for the light, even in these troubled times. Take care brothers and sisters of mine, and always stay close enough to see the light.
