I don;t think Yogyakarta should be considered Indonesia's culinary crown jewel, as Javanese food can be quite an acquired taste, even for Indonesians. The crown jewel , I would argue, would be Jakarta or Medan. Jakarta for its endless choices of cuisine from around the archipelago and beyond (and higher-quality ingredients), and Medan for the combination of Malay, Chinese, Acehnese and Minang cuisines. It could be a tough city to get around though, so I prefer Jakarta indeed.
same tought, it's just silly when you goinh to historical place but some of sellers just selling abroad kind of food, i mean i love ronde, i love ginger drink, i love chicken noodle, but why the hell there's takoyaki, topoaki and blablah's stuff. I mean no offense. The most needed is legendary lupis, fried rice, angkringan's stuff and all kind of local food in that area. But hey James, at least you end the night with good ronde and lekker.
I totally agree! That was in part my frustration… and unfortunately, lupis lady had taken the day off when I arrived there at 6am! Maybe next time I’ll get to try more local eats. If you have any recommended locations I’ll be sure to visit!

This is really interesting. I’m yet to visit Medan, so I think that should be part of a future trip
Imagine the bread on the ginger wedang is croutons.... that will take it up a notch😊❤
Would YOU eat this Indonesian street food? Or rather do it in Bali 🏝️

Sate, bakso, nasi goreng, mie ayam، martabak, nasi padang (with rendang) is the most of indonesian soulfood. Highly recomended 👍
I like the sound of rendang - I must look for some of these others! Satay is of course a popular bet
Hi James good day ❤ how's Indonesia trip. Enjoy n take care
Thanks Lily. It’s going great - other than the food!
