  • this is my very first review of the eberlestock J79 skycrane 2. after 5 years this bag in my collection has proven to be the best bag in my collection. hands down the best all around backpack I've ever had.
    :Description:
The J79 Skycrane II is a modular load bearing system consisting of three primary bags: the basic J79 pack, the pull-out G1 "Little Brother" pack, and a removable fanny/courier pack. The A4SS Tactical Weapon carrier, our other Side Scabbards, and a variety of components can be added to make a seamless pack system that can be selectively configured and optimized to a variety of missions. The basic J79 pack has a fully adjustable, robust internal aluminum/plastic frame system which can be optimized for direct-to-back carry or over-armor carry. The J79 is a scalable pack system, built around a modular 2300 cubic inch internal frame pack that employs our patented Cam Expansion system. Its unique design allows it to perform exceptionally well in a variety of configurations. It is reducible all the way down to a fanny pack, and scalable all the way up to a full-scale 8475 cubic inch freighter that can tackle anything from an M4 to the M107 Barrett to a boat motor. The system has a variety of gear compartments and storage spaces that are designed for flexibility, ease of operation, and accessibility. The Skycrane II pack system includes the J79 outer pack, the G1 Little Brother pack, and the removable LP1 Fanny-Top.

Nice job. I bought this five or so years ago, too. The G1 Little Brother pack is my bushcraft pack and SkyCrane is my pack for deer and elk hunting. It's a great setup

Great to see a review on this thing. Haven't put the great use of its system to the full capacity yet but I have used G1 Little Brother for hiking mountains and it's awesome.

Awesome bag. Big Alan Kay fan as well. Forgot to mention I own that workshop field sharpener too and it's by far my go to in all my loadouts. By the way I live in Maine so we can constitutional carry, so far have reasonable pew pew laws.
I found this video yesterday and at the minimal opposite end "get daddy home" vehicle bag I'm really digging this guys loadout, weight and defensive theme. I'm thinking in that 30 miles from home or to a fully prepped destination (safe location) from urban delio. I really like the nothing falls out hang behind the truck seat angle too. I have most of the contents already and the bag different enough to justify the expense for the concept and weight.
Anyhow as a system this was refreshing to me. ruclips.net/video/alXCHUQvpVY/видео.html
Well, watched al your stuff what's next? Would love to see your concept of wife and kids considerations as many just do lone wolf videos.
Here are my particular personal items I add:
VICKS rub is the ultimate ointment mutli tool! look up it's many uses! toss the Neosporin, tool coatings, itch crème, bug repellent, pew oil in a pinch and leather treatment plus many more. Not my favorite lip balm but its non-toxic and fine on even food prep tools if you wipe it down first. Look up the value of the cedar, camphor & menthol oil blended in. Amazing stuff.
Turkey roasting bags: These bags are made from Mylar and can endure over 400 deg F over coals to boil water. Just tie a twig or two in the the top gather to vent stream, dangle over coals about 6-10" and boil your water, cook a meal or melt lots of snow fast and reuse. 3 weight grams and I use a wooden thread spool as a steam vent.
Glue stick: You got fire and need to patch that canoe, drybag, boots, tent or stick a bread crumb marker or note on a wall? Well they make thin 10mm or so sticks. I EDC one and drop a few in my kits.
    Happy trails
