- Hitting your toe in-game can now prove fatal with this hypo. This is a brief demonstration on System Shock 2's Speed Booster item. More importantly, it covers its unique side effect where running into objects deals damage to the player. While the speed boost effects aren't unique themselves, I thought this side effect was interesting enough to warrant a video on it.
The game is System Shock 2, a 1999 Sci-Fi Action Role-Playing game developed by Looking Glass Studios and Irrational Games. The game is currently published by Nightdive Studios on Steam and GOG. It is set on the Von Braun, a ship with faster-than-light capabilities. The ship has been taken over by a hostile and parasitic force and it's up to you to stop them.
The music used is from the System Shock Remake Demo's ambient track, a project by Nightdive Studios.
The video was recorded with Shadowplay and edited with VEGAS Pro 14 (Steam Edition).
Tripping over a small groove in the floor resulting in death is darkly hilarious
In Thief 1&2 if you go fast enough you can injure yourself by running into walls
In Descent you can damage yourself if you fly too fast. (usually done by going forward, upward and sideways at the same time. The spedd vectors added up.
Agility also reduces fall damage though, I don't know if that's protective. Interesting video, thank you.
With max agility you can actually hurt yourself with strafe boosting (W+A or W+D) which in the old engines is always a sqrt of movement speed.
Enjoy
You know you've a real, pure, RPG, when max'ing out a stat can literally kill you. "Oh, you want 300 lbs of muscle? Hope you can find 100,000kcal of food every day to keep from starving to death, oh and you just snapped your horse in half."
Except in this case it doesn't. As shown in the video, normally maxing out speed doesn't have any side effects. Only using the booster does.
You didn't watch the video if you came to this conclusion. Everything you said gets proven wrong in the last 30 seconds of the video
Should have added that exploiting speed at the mind of the many like I did leaves you unable to walk into the opening to escape. Dude just ramps over it like tony f*cking hawk straight into a rumbler’s fist.
Ok one, dying from collision from going to fast, that makes plenty sense as people underestimate tripping hazards.
running into a wall? Listen you merely broken to many bones.
I love your insight on small trivial items. 😃
I am happy that after so long i managed to play ss2 this year for the frist time. No jokes it is the best thought out game i ever played. Even fact that you have to put recyclator onto items in you inventory is pure out of the box genius. You do not accidentally put things while move around your inventory into it. For some games will take 10 patches to fix similar problems and they will even go through beta testing process before release. Ss2 has it all straight from first buy. Amazing.
If you're craving more imsim stuff and looking for a modern reimagining of System Shock, try out the game PREY (or you could wait for the upcoming SS remake, that's 2023 I think)
@@DollaSignD i know about remake i check it regularly last year or so. Thx hacker
all the Dark Engine games are unique themselves
Wow... my memory might be playing tricks on me, but I feel sure Ultima Underworld and/or the original System Shock had damage for fast collisions too.
Such an obscure thing for them to do again in the Dark Engine, and I didn't even know it was there until 20+ years later 😄
Yes, you can kill yourself in Ultima Underworld if you jump hard enough against a wall. OG System Shock sadly don't have fall damage at all.
Oh, THAT'S how I died in my playthrough...
This mofo breaks his kneecap and instantly dies.
i never played system shock but i got a theory
what if that booster acts as a looping stimulation for athletes forcing their bodies to not stop running and colliding with a wall stops them causing idk neurological or shock that fatal damage or something
Song name?

You can counter this by crouching.
