I went to fly in a small park with a 80 gr 2S tiny wing and a bourgeois whose home is on the border, going out with his bin asked "is it a drone ?" and when I answered "no, it's not", he said "It's a drone" and I yelled "you know nothing about it" and flew 3 min. They were still there when test flight was over, him and his paranoïa. People can go out with 50 kg dogs with big teeth in the park but I can't with my 80 gr wing ? Fuck that.
Been there today. The wind turned too westward, so I packed my things and left. That was exactly when a big tractor came up the hill and started mowing the edge of the field. The farmer clearly saw my two rather big gliders, but greeted me politely, not seeming to care about what I've been doing. Strange.
Being a landowner I am within my rights to stop any and everyone using my land, a tenant farmer has them same rights. Guys Just because a place is fantastic for flying you have no god given right to fly and must obtain permission to be on that land. By reading some of your comments here I am not surprised that farmers are refusing right to fly from their land. Having said that I allow people to fly as long as they respect my property and text me beforehand. Just turning up will result being asked to leave
Some people just dont like to see others having fun, I cant think of any other explanation why he would want you to leave, you couldn't possibly be doing any harm. We are lucky up here in Scotland, there is a default 'right to roam' and while it doesnt give you the right to fly a model it does mean that people cant just ask you to leave for no reason. I'd have been tempted to politely decline to go anywhere and see what he did about it.
Every time I see your Angelwing Designs Smash I am impressed with its flying ability. I am sorry that you had a problem with a local. Life's like that sometimes. I always thought that Baggy Point was National Trust. Although this does not automatically give any rights to fly, they are usually open to reasonable negotiation, especially if you can chat to the local NT Warden. Best of luck because it looks to be a splendid site.
There's an angry old farmer at a place I used to fly rc gliders in Switzerland. I never misbehaved while flying at this (not his!) hill, but he stated that he saw modellers chasing cows and that's why he hates all of us and threated us that he will stand on the wings of our planes and destroy them if he would see us again. Bad luck for him that I'm also a full size pilot, and every time I am flying in this area, I do a little detour to fly over his house, sometimes with a three-sixty as low as I'm legally allowed 😀
Hi Nick. Sites are getting harder to access all the time, I've been flying from Culmstock Beacon for the last 45 years on an off, always assumed it was common ground but it's apparently private, been sold in recent times, never saw the previous owner but now not allowed to fly any electric powered planes from the slope, still seem to be able to fly on the slope but gives me funny looks if I see him on my way up the hill! Hope you get agreement with the farmer it would make your life easier!
Well I’m sorry, but whoever owns the land doesn’t own the air, you can’t take off from private land without permission but you can fly in the airspace that they don’t own. I know there is more to it than that however, that is a basic principle, so if it is a public space fly there as long as you are safe, just be careful you don’t take someone’s limb off with that hefty aircraft!! 🤪 you really would think people would have more to worry about!! 🙄
Also, let him call the police, firstly it’s not their jurisdiction really it’s the CAA’s (i can imagine their response to this kind of reporting) and secondly, he might be charged with wasting police time lol 😂
If you are located on a footpath you are within your right to physically be there and as per the ANO no landowners is in possession of one scrap of airspace above their property so if you are flying within the rules as stated in the ANO for unmanned craft I would be interested in what ability/legal right a land owner/tenant has to disallow flying like this?
The UK and in particular England has had this issue for decades. It all goes back to the rather stupid term "an Englishman's home is his castle" The enclosures act has everything to do with this too, even now. If you're flying from a footpath and are not in an FRZ then crack on. As mentioned, I'd ask what authority they have, and then ask them to prove it. Better to try and suggest that you're not there often and cause no damage etc. However beyond that it's a question of how involved both parties want to get. If you're prepared to stand your ground then swot up on trespass laws and again crack on. I really wish England would follow Scotland's lead on open access on non-residential land. When you read the law it's actually incredible sensible and works for both public and landowners. However the overarching issue is not going away any time soon. Most of the UK is privately owned, and effectively by a tiny portion of the populace. Most of England is set up to actively deny access, even to open space.
Same thing happened to me.. I have 1 local ridge flying site, I live in a predomantly flat area inland in Ireland, Ive been going to the same site for over 20 years.. Last summer me and my uncle were flying our gliders when a woman walked up to us and said, who gave you permission to be here flying drones.. We said ohh weve been coming here for decades, we wont cause any issues, and we dont fly models with engines and we dont fly drones.. She was having none of it, she went on to say that the hill was private property and she would call the cops if we didnt leave.. I actually had to stop talking because I was about to rip her a new one, So my uncle said ok we will leave no problem... That unfortunately was the end of our slope soaring.. We dont have another site within at least 40 miles of us..
And your not wrong... We had permission to fly there from the farmer we knew who owned it.. It must have changed hands.. Because I never saw tha woman in my life and its a small community around my way.. Imagine instead of striking up a conversation and finding out what were all about, She actually went off on one and had already made up her mind when she asked us to leave.. Community is gone.. Nobody wants to know you now, thats the issue.. She didnt want to know us.. She just wanted us to piss off.. @@NickChittyFlying
No point.. Her immediate attitude told me everything I needed to know.. She obviously bought the hillside because she was wearing horse riding boots and leggings..There are horses up there sometimes in the field behind the slope.. The old man who used to own it gave us permission, but unfortunately he died as far as Im aware... She definately wasnt going to change her mind, she was only looking for an excuse to call the law.. You just know when your not going to win.. That was one of those times.. Shes an old cow, with lots of horse money.. Doesnt want to make friends, and doesnt care about how long we were coming there.. @@glynmatthews6697

Sad but that how this world changing too. Bad idea to fly at local park as there so many clueless morons… find a club etc or fly site
The Federal Aviation Administration (in the USA) would consider it a drone. Anything that is remotely controlled and flies here is a drone.
People that don't like ridge soaring shouldn't be allowed to own prime ridge soaring land.
Don’t worry paybacks coming 😁

If it was me, I'd come back with the biggest, loudest, most obnoxious quadrotor or EDF plane I could get, just to spite them.
