I had a stroke a year ago and had to learn how to do something different with my life, i can't walk at the moment and have a weak right hand. I was a mechanic previously and decided to teach myself how to repair iPhones, I am going to teach myself how to microsolder also. Am buying the equipment that you, jessa and Jason from sts use. I am going to take some electronic classes and hope to be able to do repairs at the level that you can in the future. I hope my comment is clear and precise, I also have aphasia and sometimes I have ab issue with my speaking and writing. I enjoy your posts.
Allan Barr cannabis helped my aunt a lot during her recovery from a stroke she had. Something about reducing oxidative stress and inflammation with minimum negative side effects and increasing neural plasticity. She didn’t smoke it. She used tinctures, edibles and lozenges. It gave her greater control over the dosage.
Louis, like others have said in the past few days your content has been better than ever! Explanations have been great. Myself and others see the effort. Thank you.
I have beginner experience with soldering and only cleaned laptops until now. I managed to repair my brother's UMIDIGINGI phone, which had water damage and didn't turn on. The back was a pain in the ass to open and i looked at everything until i noticed corrosion at a flex cable's connector towards ground. It only took some scrubbing with a sharp object and cleaning with a cotton swab. Thanks for teaching me how to actually fix broken electronics.
I'm not even an Apple user and based on their behavior towards their customers as evident from your videos and other sources I doubt I will ever become one. As someone that likes to work on my own tech (PC, game consoles etc.), and a supporter of the right to repair movement I have a deep appreciation for your videos and your sense of humor so I subscribed. Keep up the great work.
As a fellow comp repair tech, I completely agree! Fixing someone's stuff and making them smile is the best part! (The money's nice, too, though. LMAO.)
For some reason your videos make great background entertainment for me. I also have watched enough to just instinctively know thet when you say rapid cool technology that the board is being sucked on by a vacuum lol
I'm obviously not a tech: When you're soldering at 11:43, what is preventing the solder from just globbing around and shorting out all the pins? How does it attach to each pin separately?
Yeah I like to fix stuff, absolutely but as much as I aspire, I don't think I'd ever understand board infrastructure enough to do what you do louis, truth is I watch your videos for your insane witt, laced with attitude.... Drink bottles are pretty cool!!
Good question, the first test you did to check to see if there is power to the chip. Mine is coming up with 24 volts. Is this indicative of a short or something else at play.
i noticed one other thing though with this macbook the fans looked dirty as hell and i can tell this one is 2013 or newer by seeing that soldered on ram and the proprietary apple ssd
Does your type of glove make a difference in board repair? I would expect from the appearance that you are using nonpowdered nitrile. Do they have any use aside from being a barrier between you and the board (keeping the crud from the board off you and your finger oils off the board)? Preventing static buildup perhaps? Do you have to do any humidity changing during the winter to ward off static issues?
Because some people do icky things near their computers. Working on a grounded anti-static mat is the way to deal with static. Also, you can use a grounded wrist strap.
How much would this cost? This may be the issue with our main laptop, just stopped turning on. we live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. could we ship to you for repairs?
Hey Louis, don't know that you'll see this but is it possible to upgrade the SSD in a MBA 2017? I thought 128gb would be enough, but regret not going larger. I know the standard answer is for Apple stuff is "No." with everything, but you've proven otherwise with other things. Same question with the ram.
Hi Louis, unfortunately I do not have anyone like you in the UK ie No repair places that I would trust, could you possibly please give me a few tips, I have this model and it all of a sudden stopped turning on, when i plug in 18.5 volts from my bench supply it is pulling 0.01 to 0.02 amps and does not change no matter what I press, I have tried the SMC reset and the plug does change colour when it should but still will not power on, I am fairly savy with electronics and would like to have a go at this myself, does your company supply schematics so I know where to test the voltages ? Thanks Stuart
I bought my 2013 macbook pro whilst serving in Afghanistan, I've had it for so many years its got somewhat sentimental value to me and I'd like to repair it. I took it to multiple pc repair stores and my local apple store. I was swindled by a rogue trader, who stole my charger, Apple refused to repair it after diagnostic check, advising I buy a new laptop. I already have a macbook air, but remain adamant to fix this macbook pro. It was fried by a power surge and was connected to the charger, the motherboard needs replacing. However, I'm not sure if anything else needs replacing. I have no clue how to do this type of repair. Any advice? I'm a big fan of your channel and your work against the diabolical greedy big tech corporations. Please help!
Not sure if there's a reason not to, but I'd love to get at least an idea of what you charge for each of these repairs. Is it a fixed fee, or ? Depending on if it's from another company who doesn't do repair, or tried and failes (previously opened), or just an ordinary person, walk in or shipped. RichE San Diego
It's about $330 per repair I think, I do know for sure it's fixed fee because as he explains in previous videos some boards take 10 minutes to repair and others take 3 or 4 hours sometimes more, so the set fee balances things out to around $65 per hour
Watch these videos? Then make a business plan, working with someone who knows how to critique and suggest quality changes. Then get some equipment, and keep learning.
love these videos. im still rocking my 2012 MBP and see no reason whatsoever to upgrade. seems they have gotten worse (less upgradable) as time went on. just ordered a new battery from your store.
i want a louis Rossman t-shirt and i want to buy it from your website, but only because i dont have any apple products to send you to fix nor am i mechanically incline to fix pc/macbooks like you.
You know the people crying about not using a vacuum cleaner to clean your motherboard because the suction would horrendously rip the surface-mount parts from the board? Louis don't care.
unlike most private owned electronics repair business' owners you actually care about not just the customer but also the whole industry and the reputation of such, and because of this i think not only should apple allow 3rd party repair to those of us who are actually capable, and they should hire you to travel to all the different 3rd party repair shops and observe them in action to see if they are competent or not. this way we all win, you weed out the shit techs and stores, and the ones who know what they are doing get a "stamp" of approval from you. "Rossmann Group Approved," lmao or something like that. if apple doesnt want third party repair cause they claim they dont want spotty work ruining their reputation, they hire you to make certain anyone doing component level repair is actually up to performing the task successfully, without shit corners being cut. if this is truly what apple is worried about then having you or someone like you going around to "certify" said stores should be enough. and after said inspection those stores who pass should be given access to OEM parts through an apple web portal you must log into (meaning you first must have been approved as a quality tech) and then order your parts. none of this "we need the machines serial number before we send you a part so we know you arent reselling them" BS. i could see all this happening but then i had to wake up and get out of bed... :(

Poor Paul L Daniels the butt of the joke start of the beginning of every video.. granted aside from a 3rd party board level repair im a hobbies programmer flexbv is the industry gold standard..
