Language Keepers Karuk

The Klamath River is the ancestral home of the Karuk people. Phil Albers, Julian Lang, and Maymi Preston-Donahue are learning to speak Karuk in order to keep the people connected to their language and the river.

I'm from Brazil, and I kind love to learn other languages and cultures alike. I found this culture recently by watching a series about Mount Shasta and I became interested to learn about the Karuk Tribes too... Maybe one day I get the chance to visit this amazing place in Northern California. Who knows. Amen 🙌🏻🙏🏻

My fiancé is a member of the Karuk tribe. We have been researching the language after I learned about the revitalization program. He would like to learn more of his heritage and language. Especially since we learned there were only 12 active full time native speakers since 2015.

So horrific, all the terrible things that were done to the native people in the past. And wonderful that there are those with the strength and resolve to overcome the traumas and work to revive the languages and cultures.
