Sean is one of those bass players that looked at what Jaco, Marcus, Victor did and said "That's cool, I want to serve the music." He's a class act and I love everything he does. Great insight on everything he said and furthering the ideas
Are you suggesting those guys don't "serve the music"? That's just plain silly and an uneducated statement. Different music, different way of playing. Hurley is awesome, definitely an inspiration for all bassists, but he works in a particular style of music and plays to that style.
In my case since I’m not a very technical player, 5ish years hobby level, I tend to make things simplistic due to my limitations and laziness :) haven’t heard so far anybody complaining - man, that was too simple, can you spice it up? 😅 Missed that video, btw, will go and watch thanks for sharing.
picking is a different tone and i use it where its needed or where the song/style calls for it. Some styles or songs just dont sound right with a warm fingers approach and vice versa. Some songs i use both techniques!
@@ssewardphoto yes, playing softly makes a huge difference. Similar for drummers too, when you bash the kit it doesn’t sound as good in a lot of contexts
I play with a pick sometimes, but I have way more fun and feel a lot more free when playing with my fingers
Loved that interview as well, so much great stuff. Sean Hurley is the patron saint of worship bassists.
@@adtroy Right?! Sean Hurley really embodies everything worship bassists should strive for. Thanks for watching!

Couldn't agree more, he's truly a humble genius!

It's a different flavor for sure! And yes some songs use both. Challenge use finger, pick, and slap in one song 😂
@ ohh yes that might have happened at some point! A bit of thumb for gentle whole notes too
@ yes 🙌
Really good stuff. On that note, when are you doing What A God -SEU Worship. There are really timely fills that I'd love to learn from you.
@@jacksmock4574 Thank you! I will check it out later this week, love me some tasty fills 🙌
Hey! Got that video up: ruclips.net/video/yUvHWiokoFg/видео.html
I think it’s also interesting how softly he plays. The strings barely move at all.

@@ssewardphoto there’s a great video by Philip Conrad that’s shows some great examples of playing softly makes vs hard, really eye opening
