- Series 4, episode 5 of Never Mind The Buzzcocks from 1998. Sean Hughes, Jah Wobble and Jo Brand try to decipher the lyrics to Promised You A Miracle by Simple Minds.
The "correct" lyrics given by Mark Lamarr are also incorrect!
The correct lyrics are:
Chance as love takes a train.
Summer breeze and brilliant light.
Only love she sees,
He controls on love,
Love sails to a new life.
Jah Wobble is amazing here!
It is amazing how many of the movements the lead singer shares with Bono and I don't know who imitated who. Naturally Bono moved away from his romantic period and Simple Minds simply vanished.
Where the hell are all the seasons available to view ? Most web-sites hold an incomplete listing of the major ones with Lammar and Amstell but many are amiss.
That's a bit unfair on Simple Minds, they were hugely successful and massively influential. Simple Minds' New Gold Dream was a big influence on U2, as was Jim Kerr on Bono
@@MattJames1958 Perhaps.
Just listened to their first two albums and I notice a resemblance to Depeche Mode rather than U2.
All in all, they were not a good band with most of their hits being written and composed by outsiders - Don't you forget... Belfast Child (folk song). Even the "Miracle" one was of a temporary drummer.
I personally loved Kerr's voice and theatricality but one good song out of 8 albums ? They are just not melodic in any way. At the end of the day, the Irish have it in their blood.
Wikipedia notes that both singers did share the stage. And why not ? The 80's was the last innocent decade.
@@ycls2004 Well they had 3 UK number 1 albums, about 12 in the top 20 and a string of top 40 singles. That's a successful band. They are also undoubtedly influential and have been a named influence by a number of bands from Gorillaz to Manic Street Preachers to U2. The Unforgettable Fire was undoubtedly influenced by New Gold Dream, in fact here's what Daniel Lanois had to say about it: "They wanted to do something different. U2 has been listening to New Gold Dream by Simple Minds as a point of reference, a record they liked."
Did the quality of Simple Minds' music decline? Undoubtedly. They also had issues with the lineup. But that doesn't take away from the spell in the late 70s/early 80s when they were a very good band, as well as the fact that they were both successful and influential
Simple Minds never stopped, they've been touring constantly since the 80s. Should have seen them in December but covid and all that -- put back to next December. Bono once said that Simple Minds were the band they aspired to be...
"You told me we had to cover Central European politics of the 1940s!"
"I promised you a Mini-Bel."
Vladimir with a hat
"Liam's a gurrier."
Apparently Jah Wobble punched Sean Hughes backstage.
Johnny Feen 😱
Yeah, that's true. He said that Richard Herring's podcast a while back.
what for?
There’s no “apparently” about it, he wrote about it in his autobiography, “Memoirs of a Geezer”.
@@antster1983 I had the pleasure of being in the audience for Buzzcocks back in about 2000. The thing that struck me was that everyone on the show was very, very drunk. I think this probably had something to do with it.
0:53 Who's this handsome chap?
Ex Essex Is this the episode where Preston from whatever the band was left and a member of the audience was picked to take his place?
@@Shannmeister No.
