- In the Grip of the Crocodile
Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya,
I cry as Gajendra cried, bound by māyā’s sway,
In the waters of saṁsāra, deep and dark,
Where crocodiles of weakness leave their mark.
My strength, like Gajendra's, vast and proud,
Now falters beneath life’s heavy shroud.
Ah, Śaraṇāgataḥ smi! I am helpless here,
Caught in the jaws of doubt and fear.
Aho kṛpālo! Merciful Lord,
Did You not hear Gajendra’s word?
With folded hands and tears that fell,
He called to You from sorrow’s well.
My crocodile lurks in the shadowed deep,
A weakness I nourish, a secret I keep.
It pulls me under, it takes my breath,
Dragging me closer to spiritual death.
But in this darkness, my soul takes flight,
To call Your name in trembling might:
Akamapahartā! Dayānidhe!
Rid me of bonds, and set me free!
Like Gajendra, I offer this lotus of tears,
Borne of my struggles, my anguished years.
Namaste puṇyaślokāya, to You I bow,
Surrendered and weary, my time is now.
For the waters churn, the storm is fierce,
Yet through the veil, Your mercy pierce.
The crocodile loosens; I feel Your hand,
Lifting me gently to sacred land.
O Lord of Gajendra, my plea is the same,
Rescue my heart in Your holy name.
For in this surrender, my strength is reborn,
And through my tears, my soul is adorned.
