- Bit of a chill video discussing some opinions about switching up your graffiti word. Relax, this isn't some new rules I've dreamed up, simply observations so take them in but ultimately do whatever you like when it comes to your graffiti and your word. That's the whole point

i started doing graffiti when my brother died in 2014. he use to do it so now i do his tag. so i am representing him. when people ask me if that tag its mine. i just answer that i dont have one

Don't take it da wrong way bro, but u, or u n his crew or even your crew, should do a mad-ass tribute mural in his memory. A closure for yourself, family n friends should be finalized, so he can move onto da next phase of his journal. I think (from personal experience) its time to let him go n set him free!! I'm truly sorry if dat sounded harsh, but honestly, I reckon he would much prefer it dat way, coz u don't need to keep his tag alive...he knows how much u have missed him, but, u know he is always with u anyways, deep within ur heart. So its time for u to move on, so dat he can move on, without him feeling torn between u, n his soul's next journey. Much luv...peace out!!

I think this video's discussion can be applied to changing your word on your own terms. Of course there are a lot of other reasons not mentioned ( beef, word clash, getting caught) that might force people into a change. Keep that in mind and let me know your thoughts

When I started I started tagging with one word. I wanted to change it but then I got recognized by a very big graffiti artist in my area. Ever since then I havent changed my tag and I wont.

Only persons videos that I watch from the very begging to the end.Each video is like what you would have in an actual conversation.
From the perspective of a UK/London 'viewer' (since the 90s I've always enjoyed seeing graffiti) it's nice to see familiar tags in many places. It's sad to see names disappear and makes old tags all the more special to see ;) I'm not in the scene, I just like seeing it and photographing it, it's always intrigued me.
A tag Roxie / Roxz / Roxs was all over north Kent and on towards London around 2012/13 with some others that must have tagged alongside. Haven't seen any new ones in years now, but the old ones are still out there.
I remember Dred and KNOWN all up and down tracksides to London as a kid. Never been able to find a pic or solid reference to these tags anywhere online, which is a shame. I watch vids from the era hoping to see those tags in the background but so far no luck. Closest I've come is to somebody else mentioning seeing 'KNOWN' in a comments section online!
Then you have tags like OKER which have been going up since the 90s and are still going to this day. Style has changed a lot, and I prefer the old stuff (even though the writer hates his old work). DDS used to smash it back in the 90s and new members I believe still do, just not as prevalent.

The upside to having multiple names is if you get pinched, the po'po gots nothin!!! Plus, if your a newbie, you can write crappy and play dumb once youve learned some ropes and changed up. Idk. Im just an oldman writer. In any case, GetUp and StayUp!!!! Peace

Tag everywhere, not just your hometown, police make heatmaps. Avoid taking pictutes, especially of yourself standing next to your tags, that's dumb. I know a lot of people that would have got away with shit if it wasn't for a library of incriminating photos on their cameras that they left when getting chased from a train. Also never take your black book out.
I did what you said though, I get bored of using the same name. I have different names depending on how I feel about the would on the day.

@@dailyyy_ when you're starting out it's not that big of a deal as you most likely won't have a reputation/be a recognizable figure in your scene. Theres still some of my tags from like 2016 when i went buy a different name then i do now. Don't stress it's better to experiment and find a word you're happy with

Wrote 'Jiye' in my younger years then fell away from graff, started again in the last year or 2 writing 'Onit', got that buzz back for it again and getting up as much as possible. diggin the channel mate, respect from sunny scotland
The thing that keeps me painting and bombing at 30 years old with kids is the feeling I get when applying paint or ink to a surface.

Absolutely agree on the fact that a lot of writers need to get out and about and use their name to see if they feel it or not. Takes a lot of time. 💭

I think that if you chose a name and you put 3 yers of work in that Is a mistake to change it cause after a few months with your new name you will be like "I think that my old name was way more better than this one" cause you will see your work everyday and you will make the difference between how it was and how is now.....MY opinion
I'm Asek 313 from Detroit, Mi USA. Through social media I've met Asek 126 from Germany, Bunny Asek from Mexico and Asek from Texas and I am cool with them all. I've been writing since 1999 and have been painting longer than the guys I've met. We all have a different style but I think it's awesome that theres other people that write the same name and we all have different stories about how we came about writing that name. I reached out to Asek from the Miami area but he wasn't interested in talking to me.
Main things you should know about choosing a name
1. Don't pick a graffiti legends name
2. Learn your history
3. If you have the same name as another writer from your city try to make your graffiti different (style etc) so people will know that you two are different people
Yup what you said in the middle of the vid Apply’s to me., I’ve put in so much work into my name that when I wanted to change it I got a lot of blowback from my friends and other writers. Every one already knows me by it and many told me it would be stupid if I wrote something else. It’s true all the dedication and different styles I’ve developed would just go to waste.

I write soooo many words. I'll stick with a word for 6 months to 2 years then try something new. I have gone back to previously used words more than once.
But I always switch the words up. Fuck the recognition, fuck the repetition. Just write what you want, when you want, how you want.
I am a graffiti writer from Norway and a couple of months ago I did a pretty nice tag on a pretty crazy red spot but later that day my partner was seen tagging and the people who saw him called the police, we tried to just walk away and we thought we had a chance of not getting caught, so when my partner was sitting in the train before he left the train station (I was sitting next to him) a police officer came in and asked if he could ask him some questions and he admitted that he did the tag but he said he was alone, I was fucking scared as all hell so I just walked away from the train and got somebody to pick me up, my mom had got phone about the tagging thing and meant that I also had to call myself in to the cops, so I did and now I’m dealing with child welfare and stuff and if I do It one more time it’ll have much bigger consequences so my question is: should I change my name in case the police recognize it used again or should I just keep going same old tag that people will recognize me for??

I've been writing one namefor 4 years and it never felt okay with me,so 2 years ago I've changed it to something unique for 2 reasons:1)so noone can say I'm biting someone else and 2)to challenge myself with new letters.And I've had much better progress with this new name,even though I sometimes get stuck with no inspiration,after a while something dope hits me and I work on my stuff again.Change your name if you want,but first give it a proper test-tag,throw,piece.And then decide if the name is for you or not.
right on bro a proper test run is important. Sometimes things just get stale after long periods and a switch-up can feel like a new start, in a good way.

With words man it’s hard too find a good one that wasn’t taken when I started in 98 you write the word you then had too go out then see if there was an old school writer out there from the same city otherwise it could spell trouble eg my old word was getting hot because I religiously smashing trains so I changed it too sink then I found out there was a one school writer that put it Sink CW which is ironic I put up CW nowadays but yeah I had the fuck kicked out of me because of my silly mistake

Back when I was in highschool I started getting heavy into graffiti and would tag ‘SKUZ’ and it was very random but I was able to write nasty tags. I’m 21 today and starting banging it again the past few months as ‘GEKO’
Aight so, I want to take the name "oval" but there is already a guy with the same name in a city nearby. I don't know if he still writes oval because i only saw him once in 2018 and there are no oval tags/throwies in the streets. So should I go for that name?

I have 2 names. 1 of em, I use to tag in school and the other just for normal pieces. But I use different styles on both because if I get caught, people will know it was me.😂gotta stay safe and put thought into your tags

I started out and was stuck on a word so I stuck with the word stuck :) no one around my state writes it so that’s good for me I’ve only met one other person online writing it, if anyone is struggling with find a word sometimes it will just come to you! Don’t overthink it

I based my tags off of mainly aesthetics, but also something personal. I hit up "Chrollo" a lot, and it started with the "dot" but it just threw off the balance and felt generally out of place.
I like to use a secondary to keep it fresh, and it's just "Bats". Almost entirely because it's made up of some good looking letters, but also because I fuck with Batman HEAVY.
my word is pretty f'ing dumb that i used ironically that stuck with me. Its bake and started off with a sketch of it saying "Bake And Destroy" with a pie near it

problem for me, people in collage have figured out who i am somehow, i prefer being very anon. i really like my tag but also dont want people knowing that im doing it. half the people in my college are most likely going to snitch, so unless i change soon i might be getting found out. i think even some teachers are starting to catch on.

Yeah when I was younger first starting out I struggled choosing a name cause I didn't like how each looked in the black book eventually I just wanted to hit the streets already. So I just took the letters I liked the most or were the best at and just made a word and just went out and rocked it after a while your own style and flow will come with it you don't just click with a style instantly it comes with time so just go out and rock simple tags with letters you like and it will come. Started around 99 and I rocked a toy name for years because I was up and wanted to keep my "word". Got stuck with it so to say. Then after about a decade started writing "Care".
I just got a long ass word, I just change the letters around and shorten it and stuff like that, 1 word 7 different variables
Started January 2019 , my word is rekzo and I did not like it at all because it is random letters , and means absolutely nothing. As mentioned in the video it started growing on me after bombing the word all arround the city. I got recognition although I didn't aim for that (I'm keeping it as secret as I can) and now I don't feel like changing the word any time soon. The word does not matter , the quality or quantity depending on if you are bombing or doing burners is what will make you love the word

Sooo I was writing Jeno and well I had my blackbook in my bag (at school) and the teacher asked me about the book and ascked me to show it to her... so she flipped threw it and well she said that she saw my work on the street and thet I should stop it cuz she would tell ma parents or the school... so I changed it.

sometimes you can't, but be sure someone already recognised your name. I discussed most popular names here with my friends and i think people who don't pay attention to this kind of stuff and aren't interested in graffiti will notice any name that's repetitive enough, even just in their area

I like my name (infinity) but the letters are kinda hard to make look good and just aren't that fun should I change it completely or just write some other word with some kinda tag or some thing next to it

In my opinion name should always have sentiment. When I see people putting up shit like 'vlax' or 'ace' it's jarring. Edgy one syllable tags are hard to build an identity with- you want something that sounds like a name and has some sort of meaning to you
.I live in a small town with maybe like 5-6 writers so I use 5 different words to keep the heat off me. I don't do it for recognition I just do it for me so all 5 words have different hand styles its worked well for the past 5 years so well see

I changed my name out of respect for an OG writer from LA. I didn't realize his impact and he was still active so I changed it up. Pretty rough lol, no one knows you and I had alot of ppl beef me who didn't know what I previosuly wrote.

I went thru a few names some were taken without me knowing some just didnt work out for me then once I sat down and thought it thru it stuck with me and just ran with it VJ was my nickname when I was younger I just added the AY to make it longer but weather I write VJ or VJAY it's still me still works

gaius del negro you could do what “someone” or “acroeyak” does and do a quick tag as the first letter and then for a full piece the whole name.Id recommend just tagging world for quick in and outs or restricted space but for an all out piece do world wide.Either way getting up and looking good is where it’s at!
