A friend of mine ( American) was at that show. He kept texting me saying how unbelievably good Arnel is. I’ve seen him live 5 times with Journey and I am so happy for him. The new album is great and his voice is perfect for Journey.
Arnel is an international star. There are singers here in Korea who are known only in Korea (even then they are not the most famous singers) and yet they are not humble, let alone being cocky.

I was there in 2009. Excellent performance. 20 or something songs and Arnel had to sing the songs in their actual key. And he wasn't singing those songs in his very calculated, careful voice of recent years. He was singing those songs like the way he sings in his old band days. It was a tiring set but everyone was happy. There was somehow an indirect pressure for this show to be good since a week before this event, Eraserheads performed their final major concert in the same venue (different parking lot though). I was also there. If you compare the Manila performance compared to his performance in other venues, I think this particular event was meant for him to show his best. Even if the pressure was big, you see his genuine happiness performing in his home crowd. It was a very memorable night.
Arnel, you always give such credit to Steve Perry, which is well deserved. I grew up playing those songs over and over and over! YOU brought that back to us! I don’t compare you to Perry, he was amazing when he was in the band and will never be forgotten. You are the sound of Journey for me now. I was there during this concert.and even as I was so far away from the stage cuz I could afford only the cheapest ticket. Arnel's voice and passion really shookt me. Never knew of journey but was mindblown by the band as well. Tumigas ang paa ko sa katatayo ng 2 orass pero it was worth all the pain in my legs.

I was there during this concert.and even as I was so far away from the stage cuz I could afford only the cheapest ticket. Arnel's voice and passion really shookt me. Never knew of journey but was mindblown by the band as well. Tumigas ang paa ko sa katatayo ng 2 orass pero it was worth all the pain in my legs.

I'm a HUGE Steve Perry fan of over 40 years! I pride myself on being able to distinguish Steve's voice ASAP, any time new music came out. With your performances my sister would do blind tests to see if I could tell your voices apart. Much to my chagrin, I couldn't always. You voice & you are absolutely incredible!! YOU have kept Journey alive all this time!! Your beautiful voice!! Your energy on stage! Not Neal, not Jonathan, YOU!!
