Tilting due to anger or frustration is always a rough experience especially when you're one of the people who're more emotional which is not a bad trait to have, but it can really backfire when you're playing a competitive game like chess because it might really get too much into your head and stop you from improving or having fun, which is honestly all a game should be about. I think having some rules you set to yourself for playing can be really effective like John mentioned in the tweet. I also think something like meditating could also really improve your mindset and your ability to calm down when you get hit by emotions which tilt you. I'm doing it semi regularily and it really helped me actually for my chess to kinda like turn off the tilt switch i used to have in my head. It still shows up sometimes but it's a lot better now than it was in the past. And for the endnote, that hippo player! You don't know the emotional damage that guy did to me John, YOU DON'T KNOW! ;P Just take it easy guys, leave a like & read the tweet
Watching this back and noticing now I had a stalemate trick at 20:53 when White played e6, effectively stalemating me, e.g. ...Qg2+ Kh4 Qg4!. Where's Eric Rosen when you need him? 😂
Thanks for continuing to upload youtube vids John. Even when losing that exchange it is interesting how when players are in a "zone" in blitz it can hardly matter at times, playing quickly and confidently is so important.
Good to see you back, John. Hope all is going well for you. My impressions of the games: Game 1: Sustained positional pressure leading to a nice R + N mate. Game 2: John lost the ex, but the pesky N had its revenge. Game 3: Beautiful play on both wings from the White side of a KID; cool recycling of N from f5 all the way to a6! Game 4: Scandi with 2. e5 not so easy to refute; John wins the ex, but again the N is very annoying, at least in a 3 + 0 game. Game 5: Slow maneuvering by John, who had a big time edge. Dirty flag by John sealed the deal.
I got scared at the start when you said you were going to play "four and only four" games. Glad to see you just misspoke, I was having nightmares of Ben and Jerry's shrinking pints!

Great post John! So true. I’ve started learning to limit myself and it really makes chess a lot more fun. Great insights.

Nice 1.
Love it as always, John! Keep them coming!

Love the spoiler in the title. I enjoyed watching even more in anticipation of the knight schemes.
Good games John. You continue to produce quality content.
Finally John uses the clock as a weapon during a 'clock as a weapon' episode!! These are great games! Thanks!!

Thanks, Robert!
And great summary - my knight really did get a workout in Game 3 😀

4:19 kinda proud that I found the forced mate one move before you did. Although I had to pause the video and calculate before I was certain.
Thanks for another awesome video John
that double rook lift around 24min was really funny to me, thank you for that, got a laugh out of me
20:54 White blundered with e6, black has a forced stalemate sequence here which is unbelievable. Qg2 Kh4 and Qg4+ Kxg4 is stalemate!
Enjoying the sneak peek at the Scandi course!
Thank you for the very instructive games, John.
Can you please tell how to learn a new opening and how to understand idea behind a specific move🙏🙏🙏
Swindling in chess is honest work. 😊
Great video!
Thank you, Binny!
There is no dirty flag in 3+0. It's just part of the game.
Nice video.
0:24 uh..John? You okay bud? :P
Gotta keep you guys on your toes 😉
I'd be so annoyed by that knight If I was white in that game.
Still a big fan!
Thanks for being a long-term viewer and supporter, Seattle!
At 7:43 Rxh3 looks interesting!
Aiming for a ...Nf4+ fork? That would definitely not work with White's g4 rook guarding that square :)
@@JohnBartholomewChess Woops never mind me! In my mind the other rook was not there ouch...
Good news today
Let me know if you want a Bluesky invite.
Why aren't you a GM yet? Sounds like a rude question but I'm curious. You are a strong IM.
He's really milking this journey to GM series 😂
I have to say that I am very disappointed with this video, John. You didn't tell us what you were drinking! 😉
