why post this video and not share exactly what mixture your using? Probably not even vinegar your using! I think posting this and having people try this method without telling exact process is irrisponsable and and a danger to those who try without proper deatails. people will attempt regardless of you telling them not to.

I actually can to the same conclusion myself. The temperature range is from about 40/80 degress. As acetic acid boils at around 118 degrees. Given the temperature range we can assume gold or gold coating in the mole mass rage of equal to around 19 to around 38 grams could be ionised in those temperature ranges. But becuase it’s a coating on the pcb boards the molar mass is a lot lower which is why at those temperatures it’s so quick. I won’t give away the exact checmal formula, but I’m glad to know my theory was correct and I can proceed with stripping my gold. I’m uncertain if it can have the same affects on other precious metals, I’ll assume it does but gold has been my main focus becuase I have more of that to recovery. What drove me to this was an article about a Canadian university research team and the fact I couldn’t be arsed with applying and paying for an EPP lisence he in the UK. It also gives me a non-toxic way of recovering as well. Aswsome thanks guys.

There are solid white pellets or "prills" in the solution. My guess would be sodium nitrate. The acetic acid being the substitute for HCl and sodium nitrate makes an AR solution that is strong enough to dissolve the top layer of gold because it is so thin but not strong enough to attack the nickel layer quickly. That's why the piece goes in and comes back out quickly so the base metal is not attacked over time.

True, but Dr. Foley's seminar is on this process, and specifically mentions a new family of sulfur-based ligands. The modified dithioburet is just a guess, based on Loghman and Salimi patents.

What is the exact chemical(s) you are using for this and where can I buy it? Reading below, I see a response of acetone, but when i google some viable sources, none boast confidence that it is the same as what I will need to recreate this process.
How do you separate the gold solution? Is it as simple as boiling away the liquid? Filters? Electrolysis?
How many times can you reuse the same dose before it no longer becomes effective to remove gold?
Is there a similar method to removing copper and other metals? I have a ton of motherboards I want to try this with, but there are a lot of other metals I want to keep, too.

What is all that white stuff in the bottom of the beaker? Is that from the magnetic stirring bar rubbing on the boards? If that is the case, I know that is likely not intended in this process since the stirring bar just keeps the acid (vinegar) moving to help get the gold off quicker. I am quite impressed and pleased that someone found a quick and easy way to get gold off circuit boards and other things while not needing to use nitric acid. The reason that I am happy about that is that nitric acid is one of those things that might get some "unwanted attention" from the police when anyone tries to obtain it. Then there is the fact that the fumes of nitric acid can be deadly.
Professor, what would be a similarly easy to obtain chemical for removing silver from film or dissolve silver? I just thought it would be a good idea to get that question out while I comment on the gold recovery process you have discovered. I live in the USA and chemicals such as nitric acid are controlled or regulated and thus, I don't buy them. That is because I don't want the feds coming to my door to try and charge me with using it for "something else". Then when you use nitric acid you have to be far away from your nearest neighbor (so that his or her darned dog doesn't finally stop barking for once for some mysterious reason hehehe).

Us backyarders cannot afford their license. Stick to what can be learned from other good youtube sites like sreetips or 999Dusan, etc. I personally do no like harsh acids and prefer the vinegar, sea salt, hydrogen peroxide method. It takes longer but it is safer. Once the gold foils are in the solution, use bleach to dissolve the gold then use vitamin C to drop the gold. Of course its in a metallic powder form and you now need to melt it into a bead.

      @Alex-kp3hr 3 года назад

@@nolanfoster6782 . Remember their other video stating a green process for gold recovery. Well green to me means no harsh chemicals right? So they claim that they basically use vinegar. In the above video, they use a yellow solution to dissolve the gold plating.
If this yellow solution is supposed to be a green process, then perhaps they are using a combination of glacial vinegar + hydrogen peroxide? Using table vinegar + sea salt produces a weak version of Hydrochloric Acid and when mixed with Hydrogen Peroxide produces a poor mans version of an AP solution. Using Hydrogen Peroxide + Hydrochloric Acid produces a strong version of an AP solution. Calcium hypochlorite (pool chlorine from Bunnings) could be substituted for the nitric acid in a small ratio in the above mix to get such a fast dissolving process. You still need to get the ratios right. Anyway, not to be long winded, their patent application states a lot of chemical names but no ratios. The true "green process" is hiding somewhere therein.

    EXAMPLE 10
Following 2 time leaching of 1.5 kg copper anode slime said in example 9, with 1.5 L of nitric acid (9 M) at 85° C. for 4 hours, the residue was washed with 0.4 L of water. The solid phase after drying mixed with 1.5 L of hydrochloric acid and 0.5 of water. Then 0.5 L of hydrogen peroxide was added gradually to the mixture and the temperature of the liquid was maintained at 70° C. for 4 hours to effect oxidizing leaching. The respective concentration levels within leach liquor were 1600 ppm for gold, 48 ppm for palladium and high levels of other impurities. Following cooling, the chlorination leaching residue was filtered, the acid concentration of the filtrate was adjusted to 1 M, and the filtrate was mixed with equal volume of dichloromethane containing 25 g new extractant said in example 1. Then mixture allowed stirring vigorously for 20 minutes at room temperature. The two phases were separated and the respective concentration levels with in the raffinate were 0.4 ppm for gold, 0.2 ppm for palladium. The organic phase was stripped with equal volume of 0.5 M thiourea solution containing 98 gpl sulfuric acid for 5 minutes at room temperature. The earned analysis data from the aqueous phase exposed 1750 ppm for gold without any other impurities.
While all of the fundamental characteristics and features of the metal extractant and resulting method herein have been shown and described, with reference to particular embodiments thereof, a latitude of modification, various changes and substitutions are intended in the foregoing disclosure and it will be apparent that in some instances, some features of the invention may be employed without a corresponding use of other features without departing from the scope of the invention as set forth. It should also be understood that various substitutions, modifications, and variations may be made by those skilled in the art, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention. Consequently, all such modifications and variations and substitutions as will certainly occur to those skilled in the art on reading this disclosure, are included within the scope of the invention as defined by the following claims.
    Claims (13)
    What is claimed is:
    1. A method of separating at least one of gold and palladium from an acid solution containing chloride complexes of at least one of these metals, said method comprising the steps of:
employing an extractant selected from dithiobiuret derivative compounds represented by the following structure formula:
    wherein R is cyclohexyl or isopropyl and Z represents a group selected from the group consisting of: -CH2-, -CH2-CH2-, CH2-CH2-CH2, CH2-CH(CH3)-CH2, CH2(CH2)2CH2, CH2-NH-CH2, CH2-CHOH-CH2-, CHOH-CH2-CH2-, and -CH2-O-CH2-; and
contacting said acid solution with a quantity of said extractant, for a sufficient length of time to form a loaded organic consisting of either or both of gold and palladium to allow for a single step extraction of substantially all the gold and palladium present.
