- 🔻 SWEDEN VS UK: WHICH IS BETTER?!
Which is better? Sweden or the UK? I discuss some of the similarities and differences between living in Sweden and living in the UK.
For the record, I love both Sweden and England. Both are just as good as each other! Oh, and I didn't know whether to refer to it as the UK, Britain or England, so I just used them all interchangeably. It's confusing!

Stockholm pedestrians are not like the rest of Swedes.
+DIProgan I thought that might be the case, which I did say in the video!
DIProgan I second that! But I think that's true for most bigger cities in sweden. Mby you become more self-obsorbed when you don't know most of the people you meet on your way from a to b.
While in a smaller town/village you know ppl and are expected to great them. Hmm.
+My Nilebo You don't live in STHLM?! So where you live do you find people are more considerate of others?
R O S S V L O G S naah west coast all the way ^^
We/they might appear more considerate but I think it's mostly politeness and a bit fake xD
+My Nilebo You need to visit STHLM one day! Have you ever been? Hahaa but fake niceness is better than not being nice, right?
I'm Swedish and I don't eat on the street I don't know why
Alfons_33 not me either
+Alfons_33 Hahaha! Have you ever been told not to? Or just something you've never done?
+AREWECOOL Why is that?? Hahaha
No no one have told me to not eat on the street
Because it is uncomfortable, you cannot be calm and have your moment of eating. not good for your body to move and eat at the same time, can upset your stomach too. That is why most people sit down while eating most of the times.
I lived more than 40 years in Sweden. NOW I live in London. I feel much happy now. The image and reputation of Sweden is excellent but believe me the inside and the truth looks ugly. The Swedish society is segregated. As an immigrant you can not grow professionally the way you want. You can not decide for your future, after a while you feel like you lost controll of your life. Even you are educated , you are forced in low paid job because it is very difficult to get a job you are qualified for.
Since when are you in London?
How did the brexit affected everyone around?
I am from Macedonia and I am preparing for my next step, to migrate either in Sweden, England, Switzerland or maybe even Austria...
oksaJasko Wouldn't advise you to go to Sweden , there is nothing here. Try your luck in Switzerland(which I assume is very racist place to be) or the U.K.
Simon, you are probably correct to some extent, but I have to challenge that it is a rule. I work in a high tech company in Sweden that hires a lot of immigrants. I would even say that we have an overrepresentation of immigrants (which I think is cool). Of course all of them have higher education, and I think that here is where the statistics are in favour for Swedes in general. The most immigrants that struggles to find a career in Sweden are poorly educated and that also leads to a lower education standard of their (perhaps native born) children. So the key is education I think, not neccesarily the effect of a racist bias.
@@Sauromannen I have MS from KTH. 1997. what are you talking about. if everything is ok in Sweden why Sverige demokraterna has more than 30% of votes. Why there is so much segregation in Sweden. you desperately want to cover your weakness and dark side... simply your country mess with wrong guy, they shouldn't discriminate me in first place. I am afraid ... it is not just me, there are thousands people like me, discriminated. .. I also want to uncover another issue in Sweden. Did you know that large majority of patient in mental hospital Beckomberga Hospital are foreigner.
@@simonbagdar7383 I did not say that everybody that have trouble of finding job in Sweden are poorly educated, but it is a majority. I know well educated ”swedes” that have issues to find a job too. A good professional network is very important. In your case maybe it is because you do not know that a question is followed by a question mark?
Sweden is better by my own experience in both countries, Sweden offers better quality, nature, activities, cities, healthcare, salarys, safety, variety climate, (Cold in some parts, Warm is some others), more social people, more democracy, and much more. But both hits hard though!
That self-absorption comment is so true, I was pretty surprised when I moved to Sweden actually at how impervious Swedes are to others around them, Swedes won't hold the door open for people walking behind them, they won't hold the elevator if you're walking towards it, they won't say thank you if you stop your car to let a pedestrian cross. There's no malice attached to their actions but the lack of awareness/general consideration was pretty mind-blowing.
I live in stockholm, and what I have seen this is because many are a little bit shy, but where this isn’t always true, like in Sigtuna or other smaller places
Once a viking always a viking.
Ooooh this is really interesting! How strange that you don't see people eating on the streets, Spanish people are always eating, especially sunflower seeds on public transport. They love sunflower seeds.
+Pe - ta I didn't know the Spanish loved sunflower seeds so much... do you know why? They really never eat in public. It's so odd! Haha
They roast and salt the sunflowers but with the seed case still on if that makes sense? So they put it in their mouth, suck the salt off, open the seed with their teeth, take the sunflower seed out and spit the case away... not a clue why they love it so much!
That's not super uncommon here in Sweden. Perhaps not as common as in Spain though, but we do have those roasted and salted sunflower seeds. They're really tasty!
oooh yum! It's cool to hear other countries have them too. :)
+Pe - ta That sounds so freaking complicated. Do you have to go to sunflower seed classes to learn how to do that?
I love the UK so much, greetings from Sweden❤️❤️❤️🇸🇪🇬🇧
Hi, from England 😂😂😂
bushbaby 78 :)
bushbaby 78 hiiiiiiii:)
afsheen haider That’s cool :) Which city do you going to?
afsheen haider I live in Stockholm and its very nice :)
I think that swedes (such as myself) find this eating-thing (except Fika) is a bit more private than other countries. Of course swedes are eating at restaurants, but still- we are eating more careful... I think. Like not chewing with open mouth, not eating with your hands (it's okay if it's a hamburger and some of us feel that way about pizza as well.).. so I just think most of us are uncomfortable eating when we can't eat the proper way, and also a lot of people think it's disrespectful on the subway and busses. Like: people can be allergic, it can smell bad, you might drop something and get sticky and so on..
And yes, people in Stockholm are very rude when they are walking around in the city. I would recommend you to go to Norrland, find a nice place where you can hike as well- because that's where you'll find the true nature of Sweden, haha. :)
+Alma Ericson I'll take your word for it! Have you been to Norrland often then? I agree with the allergies and smell. I'm not saying people should eat, I'm just saying you don't see it :)
Yaaasssss. The only time you should be eating in public is at a restaurant or during Fika
I can't live there then, I eat alot with my hands
Norrland N.sweden is extremely 🥶 cold, dear yup beautiful nature ❤
Also the eating thing! I know why! It's because we are told as children that you should avoid eating on public transport due to the risk of it getting messy AND THE SMELL. However, if you buy an ice cream it will melt if you don't eat it then and there. And maybe another reason might be that when we go out and eat it's with other people at a restaurant or café so why would we be walking around? Also if you are going to eat you might as well sit down, atleast at a bench.
I ´m Swedish and I have been in England as an exchange student. I loved England so much. I think the one of the biggest difference is that in England people are more open and friendly when in Sweden people tend to be more cold and closed.
SO true
I am a Swede myself, and I concur!
I'm from sweden too
Hej
Jaa lite svårt att få en samtal när man sitter på bussen eller TB i Sverige.

Fiona Ewing Great! 🇸🇪
I love sweden
Sweden and Scotland are my favourite ❤
Love it! I m Swedish and been loving my stay so far 7 years in The UK. I have to laugh because you are so right about everything you just said. If I'm out walking bumping in to a British person, they will say sorry even if it was my fault bumping in to them : ) yes you are so right about eating let say on a train, I also feel guilty...who knows why. Ha ha ha. Yes we are all out when the sun are, but living here I'm more indoors, that is probably because it's not a lake in every corner that I can cool off in. In Sweden you can enjoy a grillparty almost everywhere. But in the UK you have to pay for it if you find a place that actually allow it. Same with camping you can camp out in so Many places as long as you do not make a mess and disturb people even if you do not own the land or woods. Since nature is for any one not just the rich. I feel that the British people are extremely polite and I like the madam and the miss. Swedish people always come in time to a party out of respect. When you go to work in Sweden every employer are happy if you are early. When I come to work here I can hear omg ur early you start in 15 min.. in Sweden you can do the most things by giving your social security number. But in the UK you have to fill in a form for everything you do. In Sweden you can paus you car insurance if you not going to use your car. In UK you have to pay a minimum of car insurance for a year. If you like to see Swedish people eat outside. Go to any lake and you will see they all enjoying a nice pick nick. Go to the doctors in UK is free at all time if you live here. In Sweden it's free after you have reacted a specific amount. In UK you do not pay to have a bank card. In Sweden ( when I lived there) I had to pay a yearly fee of 15£. In the UK you can by any alcohol in the shop or garage. I Sweden you have to go to a special store. In the UK you can not get any insurance if you do not have a permanent address. If you loose you bag or if it get stolen in the UK you can only hope that you do not have your home keys in it, since your address is in your driver licences. In the UK you need to change your driverlicence every time you move or is hugh fine. I Sweden have the same licence until it expire. In Stockholm you can not pay the bus ticket with money. But you can send a text message from for your phone or by in advance. In a store ( Tesco) only managers walk around with posh close even the doctor. In Sweden everyone have the same close manager or not. British people talk more if they are out in a store with strangers and you do not have half the stress as it is in Sweden to do your grocery shopping. I Feel in Sweden you there is almost a need to be to people stopping one packing. ( more stress) good and bad in both Sweden and UK. But I still love it so far.
What I miss the most of living in Sweden is the summer when you can go to any lake chill out and have nice dip and then a open fire BQ.
Love and light
C
they are both good countries
I have never left sweden and it feels like a prison i hate it
@@arthurmorgan6756 How old are you?
4:00 is true, but mostly in Stockholm or big cities, the other parts of Sweden is different. i grew up in Stockholm so i know exactly what you mean. 5:40 : Swedes do not eat while moving because they complain about it and is forbidden sometimes because if kids use it they could drop it or smudge it everywhere in public transport. sometimes it can also be smell if a food smells bad for someone. also they do not wanna walk while eating because it is not good for your body, so they rather stay outside or inside restaurants or sit on a bench somewhere to eat.
+Rambles I can see that it might smell or cause a mess, but it's interesting that in the UK that is not a particular consideration. So we seemingly disregard that fact and still eat in public. Interesting that it's different is all...
Stockholm is like the spoiled, favorite child of Sweden. Every other city/region in this country looks down on Stockholm because of the accent and behavior there, it's almost meant to be a tourist attraction. If one wants the most realistic experience of Swedish culture and living then you should visit places like Uppsala, Västerås, Göteborg etc.
Tf, shit (från Stockholmare)
Also Malmö gavle umea
I don't eat while on the move, and that's because I'm super self conscious about eating in public. It's a side effect of being shy. Add to that being afraid of potentially making a mess. Haha!
I think Swedish youth has become more egocentric lately. The "I'm walking here, won't budge for anyone" style is something that happened recently, and I have no idea why. It happened at the same time as concert goers became "too cool to move", people mainly stand with their arms folded and maybe nod their heads.
+Tim Larsson I've noticed the concert goers too! I went to an Ed Sheeran concert and very little of the crowd was moving whatsoever. It was so strange to see! Why do you think the youth has become egocentric recently?
I think it's some kind of entitlement. The world is there for them, and them alone. They are the main character of their story (which of course is true, but they seem to interpret that as "no one is more important than me"). Maybe they've been taken care off their whole lives, they've just become plain spoiled?
Also something commonly occurring on concerts: exiting the venue when the last song finished playing, not staying to give applause and thank the artist for the show. Like they're saying "Ah, now you've entertained me, you jester... Time for me to take my leave". So utterly respectless.
+Tim Larsson I've experienced this too. It's such a shame! But good that you don't do the same, I guess!
I'm the same!
GOOD EDITING! I REALLY LIKED UR INSTANT JUMP CUTS WITH HIGH MUSIC
I'm from England and I just kinda love Sweden, everything about it is awesome to me. I wish to move/visit there some day.
04:16 This is a common misconception. We're not self-absorbed, we just know how to move like ninjas - fast and efficient. I never collide with fellow pedestrians in Stockholm. However, the one time I visited Copenhagen in Denmark I was colliding with people left and right. Great video btw!
While wating at the bus/train you shouldn't talk to a swede unless you have to. We usually stand a minimum of 1 meters away from each other and we usually want to sit alone on the bus/train.
What i like about english people is that they are so polite, something that we could do with in sweden aswell. English men are usually very polite and open Doors for a woman etc. A lot of swedisg guys have a lot to learn... mabye that is why i am married to an english man 😂😊
yeah, I noticed that about British people. they are really polite!
Can't wait for my Merch to come in 👀😂 I learn something new every time. Love your vlogs 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 GET IT !!!!
+bjet.maria 🎉🎉🎉
One detail I've never heard anyone bring up in these kinds of videos is time. In the UK "half seven" means 7:30 (at least I think?); whilst in Sweden "halv sju" (half seven) means 6:30.
We also say "fem i/över halv x" (five minutes to/past half to x). But we never say just "kvart x" (quarter x), "kvart" always requires a "i/över" (to/past), same goes for fem/tio/tjugo (five/ten/twenty).
We also don't have am/pm, we use a 24-hour system. If we were to say 14:30 (2:30 pm for those who don't know 24-hour clocks), you could say "fjorton trettio" (fourteen thirty) or "halv tre" (half past two) but never "halv femton" (half past fourteen).
brace urself racists comments incoming
+Calle Svensson Let's hope not! ✌🏻
Calle Svensson I know what you're talking about. Hurr durrr refugees Hurr durr Muslims Hurr durr I never been in sweden but I know everything about it Hurr durr.
Bullshit don't listen do them. I am from Sweden and there are FAR more swedes than refugees
Ajacied4life I never said that they're a race. I simply said that there are more Swedish people than refugees in sweden.
Ajacied4life because 99% of the racist comments under this video are about Muslim refugees.
Ajacied4life I've never seen a racist comment about Germans or Americans or anything only Muslim refugees
Most public transports have signs about food and drink onboard - and it's generally not allowed. Could be one reason for the lack of eating on the go.
+gosesnuff I can't remember seeing those signs, but I'll look out for them. But even on the street. You just never see it!
In busses and trams they're usually near the front close to the driver. can't speak for subways as I never take them myself.
Ofcourse it could just be that we're selfconcious shits too xDD you never truely reflect on these things until they're pointed out to you :P
+gosesnuff Hahaha I never said the fact you never eat in public is a bad thing, just a thing I noticed is all...
neither did I. Doesn't change the fact that we can be fairly selfconcious xD
we don't usually eat on our way soemwhere because we usually plan and make time to sit and eat, just because we don't like to be stressed while eating. and also on busses and subways etc. normally there are signs that say you can't eat in there because they don't want you to make a mess and spill food. And I also feel slightly judged if i eat something in public, it gets peoples attention i feel and i don't like being watched while eating.
+Thaleya1 I think your last point is probably more of the reason why a lot of Swedes don’t eat. I’ve never knowingly seen a sign that says you can’t eat on public transport (it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not there, I’ve just not noticed them). I feel like it’s just a social taboo and so no one does it because everyone feels like everyone will be judging everyone else. What if you’re really hungry on the go?
If i'm really hungry and in a hurry then i will eat on the go :) But i wish more people did it so you don't feel so watched.
+Thaleya1 Hahaha I’m sure you do! Do you live in Stockholm then?
No, I live in Östersund, Middle/Northern Sweden.
+Thaleya1 Ah I see. So do you think things are different in Stockholm and Östersund?
i live in stockholm and i know what you're talking about but i always keep on trying to be as friendly as possible to these swedes and i often go asides so that they can keep on walking
The rude/self-absorbed thing is mostly the bigger towns in southern Sweden, and forgive me fellow millenials... But it's mostly young people. ;P I think northern swedes are a bit more like the brits, although in the UK people will generally be more open to talking to strangers. Swedes are pretty reserved or shy, until you get to know us.
The reason people don't generally eat or drink on public transport, is because you're not supposed to! They often have rules against that, they just don't enforce them very often(since most people just respect the rules without them having to, and maybe because most people can't be arsed having a confrontation/argument about a milkshake). I actually got a warning once for drinking water on the bus though, so it's legit lol. It's fairly common, if you look for signs along the walls close to the ceiling of buses, dunno about the subway. On trains and planes it's usually fine. Probably most rides that take a while, it'll be fine to snack unless you're told otherwise.
Not sure about the walking and eating, I don't think I've seen that many people doing that when I've been to the UK(or maybe I didn't notice since I wasn't looking for it). Lots of paper coffee mugs though. That's becoming more common here too. Eating on the go sounds like something you wouldn't do unless you're pressed for time.
I think Swedes may be less prone to littering than Brits aswell? Anyone else think this might be a thing? The "håll Sverige rent"(keep Sweden clean) campaign has been quite successful, and most are pretty mindful of not throwing candy wraps and bottles in the gutter instead of the bin.
Yes indeed!
Hi Ross!
Great video!
About the not being late part. My personal view on that subject is that if, say you and me agree on a place and time to meet to do whatever. If you are late to this meeting you are wasting one of the most valuable commodities I have, my time. To witch I then will respond to with increasing levels of irritation until I feel that you have wasted enough of my time and I leave to go about my day. Note that this refers to being late without giving me any kind of notification.
if you're in sweden by easter you should try semla if you haven't already.
+Rikard Nilsson Oooh yes I should. I've tried it before but it'd be great to video 🤙🏻
You don’t eat semla on easter, you eat it before the easter fast/lent. Fettisdagen.
@@djazz0 Same difference, cafe´s will have semla long before and long after lent.
An alternative to the Swedish hugging is to deliver a firm slap on the buttock. This may be done even if you haven't established a close bond or relationship with someone. Try it out at work in Sweden, and observe all the happy smiles you get!
Another thing that I have observed is that Swedes are VERY quiet. Even when they talk, it is as they are mumbling. You go to Esperesso House and you can barely understand what they are asking you when you order a coffee or tea. It's not something that really annoys me but sometimes you have to ask them to repeat themselves because you didn't catch whatever they were asking. But I love Swedes. They are all nice.
I'm swedish and I never really thought about it but you're right, there is something in me telling me not to eat on the streets and the few times that I have I've either felt guilty about it or I've been drunk. Wonder why that is. Don't recall ever being told not to. The main difference between the british and swedes I encounter regularily is the capacity for banter. Calling my british friend some choice four letter word is seen as friendly while if I did that to my swedish friends I'd have to explain myself on why the heck I'm being so mean to them.
In Wales it is perfectly acceptable to park cars along a busy street, on both sides, so that cars can only (barely) pass in one direction.
The not caring if you're in the way while walking is something I allways try to teach my mom not to do.
omg hate the UK where its constantly raining and windy, i prefer Sweden although its cold the damn rain & wind doesn't come much often 😌 there are woods everywhere to have a nice walk and its largely peaceful .....some of swedes can be cold but then you find such people everywhere it all depends on how good you are at conversing/ winning their hearts etc lol
I left sweden for the uk, the sunshine- thing is a fact. 😂 i run out as soon the sun is out while the rest of my family sighs.
So I'm moving to London for 4,5 months from Sweden but is it really not ok to talk on your phones in earphones? I had no idea before Watching this but I'm glad I did it then.. something more I should know about before I go?
+Tilda T Hahaha it is okay. It's just not done anywhere near as much! Not in my experience anyway. You might confuse some people who think you're talking to them but it will be fine, I'm sure! Ummm ... no not that I can think of. Why are you living there?
R O S S V L O G S oh, that's happening Here in Sweden too, actually it happened today So I'm pretty used to it. But good to know anyway. I'm going to be an exchange student one semester at the Swedish school there. I don't really know what it's called in english but "second grade of gymnasiet" I'm traveling next week and I'm pretty nervous but also exited. I'm going to live with a host family there so I will get to know the "British life" a little bit! But thank you for the answer!
+Tilda T You'll have a great time, I'm sure! That's so exciting :) do you have any more Qs?
Yeah dont mention how bad our teeth are
speak for yourself you insulting prick! You are about 70 years out of date with that old ,usually American , gibe.In those days working class people didn't have spare cash to go in for cosmetic dentistry food was the number one priority. Get your facts right instead of regurgitating crap.@@K24-Zink
The main thing I noticed is that the Swedish on the whole seem to have a bit of a group-think / hive-mind thing going on and the British are pretty much the opposite. There are of course Swedish people who don't follow the state line but they don't seem to be as common as they are here in the UK. It's a bit creepy really...
I agree with some things here. I have family in Sweden, and I live in the UK as well, but I can tell you some of your facts are personal to your experiences. The hug/greeting part, I tend to hug people even men (in the UK) obviously if we are close. I know many people that do this, so maybe its different to the area you are from. Also, when you mention parties and time, I disagree, as I can also tell you this maybe personal to who your friends are. I am never late to my friends parties, I guess I always try to be 15 minutes early. My friends are exactly the same. Its very easy to make assessments based on your own 'perceptions'. It all depends on personality. Just as a side note, I have many friends in Uppsala (my mum's side of the family mostly reside there), and I can tell you many of my friends there are always late for everything! haha
You say that Swedes get less sun. That's actually inaccurate as the British Isles along with Norway and Iceland take that crown. Those countries get less sun than Sweden (even more rain).
www.worldfirst.com/uk/blog/economic-updates/daily-update/sunniest-place-europe/
I do agree with the rest though, kind of interesting.
+Alfred 2012 Thanks for your detailed input. Perhaps, though, you are in a minority of people that hug their friends and are on time for parties? I’m not saying that you definitely are, but there is a possibility...
In terms of sunlight, I was referring to hours of sunlight per day in the winter. Sweden has less sunlight than UK per winter day. I wasn’t referring to whether the weather was nice or not, just that the sun is in the sky!
Ocay i had to say this, in Sweden (where i live) we always complain about the weather if it's Sunny it to hot if it's snowing it's to cold and yeah you get it
Also for some reason swedes tend to stare a lot, British people are taught to mind their own business. When I spoke Japanese or English in sweden, I would get stares, but in the UK if I spoke a foreign language, nobody cared in the slightest. Oh and British people are WAY more polite, especially if you bump into someone they'll say sorry. From a swede the best you ever get is "oj!" (woops).
a city called Karlstad, sweden has the most sunllight of almost every city in sweden
No the sunniest part is the south east in cities like Visby and Karlskrona
I think both are good countries that could be better and could learn from each other.
Hey! I thought it would be quite nice if you made a video where you mentioned, from your point of view, a few recommendations for people (like me) who would like to move to Sweden. Idk... maybe something about how to make some friends, to blend into society... I'm sure you'd know better what's important to know if you're new there. :)
+William J Knape Are you soon to move here then?
It is nice to here that you would like to move here. About blending into society, I think you first have to know where your going to know the does and don´ts. I wish I could you more. Goodluck
I think it's mostly about respect for the hygenie around us. That's why we don't eat at the bus or in airports. On the streets it's not common either.
I can't speak for everyone. But where I live we're very keen on it being clean on seats, floors etc. So we simply don't eat on them. If we do we eat something small and very easy I imagine. It's just a basic unwritten rule that's honestly very good to follow if you want a good reputation amongst us Swedes.
You eat at the table. There.
I’m Swedish and I often eat on the bus. But when I do I sit in the back because I feel judged and then no one will see me lmao
You are so spot on, I loved this. It's funny what you say about people in Stockholm not eating whilst walking. I have never reflected upon that, but I think you are definitely right.
So with your name being "Swenglish" are you in a similar situation to me?
@@ROSSVLOGSSTUFF Yes, I am Swedish but go to university in England :)
Ah okay. So you're living the opposite life from me, being a Brit in Sweden. Where in Sweden are you from?
@@ROSSVLOGSSTUFF Stockholm, though I hasten to add that I try my best not to live up to the, unfortunately quite accurate, stereotype of grumpy pedestrians!
You try your best, but you're still a grumpy pedestrian. You were just born that way! 😜
I had a friend from England who came to visit me in Sweden for a week. She noticed that we had alot of flags.
Emma Jonsson We have one flag that has three: Union Flag England, Scotland and N Ireland. Then the English, Welsh, Scottish and N Ireland.
Interesting comparisons, great vid :)
So first of all, Londoners are SO MUCH MORE rude than people from Stockholm. Secondly, the crossing each others path thing, you'll have to be more dominant if you want people to adjust their speed to yours. It is that simple, just be more dominant and they will 99,99% of the time adjust
If you see Swedes eating on the streets it is often snacks, candy or soda but it is not weird to see Swedes eating on the streets in the summer.
If you never have, i think you should travel to Örebro. A very nice place to go. Plus Openart is there now
I will add it to my list of things to do! :)

Eating while you are standing up/walking = stress-eating. The food doesn't taste as good, you will probably choke on it and start coughing in public (awkward), there is always a risk of dropping it on the ground or on yourself, it is a challenge to hold everything in your hands, and it is almost impossible to keep a good hygiene while eating on the move. Compare that to just sitting down for a few minuets and not having to think about anything except for the food☺️
I guess most of us try to avoid eating on public transport cause it feels awkward knowing people are looking at you (and standing or sitting close to you) while you're stuffing your face and we don't want to bother others :/
Hum, very similar to Norway (the Swedes that is).
That said, the hand shaking bit is somewhat different, like the swedes we mainly shake hands the first time.
Like the brits hugging is mainly done with women (after that first hand shake thing).
But hugging don't seem to be as typical here I feel...
You just say hey and go on about doing what you want to do or say.
I absolutely LOVE your personality, subbed!
+ScarredArts Woohoo! Welcome ✌🏻
Love Uk been there many times .. love to see how a country is Vibe and exciting, people are social and great food !!
we got handsfree because its against the law to drive and talk in phone or just dont like to get the screen dirty
I live in Sweden so... yeah I think you already know that my answer is Sweden
Eating while walking just feels wrong and impractical... I don't think I have ever eaten anything other than ice cream or candy on the go or public transport. Even sitting down at a bench eating would feel a bit weird. I've never really considered this before 🤔
+Binka O It's such a strange, specific cultural phenomenon haha. It's clearly just never done here!
What you mentioned about pedestrians in Stockholm, I feel exactly the same way about walking around in central London, I get walked on . 😅
I could relate so much when you said that people doesn´t eat out in the public here in Stockholm. For example when I´m eating a chocolate bar while I´m in the subway there´e always people staring at you for eating.
Love the content mate found you through your enter shikari reaction video on live outside ,quality!
+Sam Roberts Cheers :) ✌🏻
we usually dont eat on public transportation because no one else does, for most peopel it can be a bit emberrassing to eat and have people look at oyu while doing so. Also sometimes some foods arent allowed to be eating on for exaple buses. CAuse they dont want u too spill it on the seats and around the bus.
I agree on the eating in public part... Sometimes when I travel long distances on bus, it feels so out of place to just pick up a sandwich xD
Randomly clicked on this video cuz it was in my recommendations and I moved to Stockholm five months ago..... and I’m pretty sure I live in the apartment building next to yours haha, if that’s not a crazy coincidence I don’t know what is. So hey there neighbor!👋😂 Great video, the part about Swedes not eating on public transport/while commuting is so true! I’ve never felt so self-conscious eating a bag of trail mix in my life haha
I don’t actually live in that apartment block anymore, but maybe you live next door to where I used to live! Haha. Do you live by yourself there? It’s a nice area :)
What brings you to STHLM?
Lol this funny I agree on many things. I lived in the UK for 3 years for studies, and picked up a few habits that I still struggle with here in Sweden, such as eating in public and saying sorry if you bump into people... Ah I really miss the politeness of British people, which I wasn't aware of until I moved back to Sweden. Btw I still eat on the streets or tube without shame 😂😂
+try2justbe You rebel, you! Are you Swedish then? Where did you live in the UK?
Lots of comments of Swedish people in the UK, but where are they all? I've yet to meet any
I laughed at the banana eating-scene in the train when you can hear a guy in the background saying "You´ll never know where this is going to end!"
Nice caption there! :D
Im a swed and Its only in Stocholm that people dont stop When you cross paths
I lived in London for 2 years and i've rarely seen people eating on the subway train or in the streets...... lol.
When you talked about the people in Stockholm "walk they own path" and you must move is 100% correct! It's a "big city thing" We in in lappland have not that problem!! :)
I got tired of living in Sweden..so institutionally way of living,, long winter, darkness, expensive, not diverted of products like foods and clothes.. isolated in winter time, so no one visiting Sweden, the language is limited on Scandinavian...but they are believing that they are the best 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Its one of the most proficient English speaking countries
also what do you mean by "not diverted of products like foods and clothes"
This smells of Chinese anti-Sweden propaganda. Something that has been propping up lately.
@@nilsoskar but swedish people want you to speak Svenska which is understandable
Agree with you, that's why I left this country after spending a year and never looked back. Now I am in a country where the streets are colorful and sunny. There are things that money can't buy..
Uhm... Swedes speak better English than Americans.
Um nei
Yes, americans do.
True?
As a brit I agree. Scandinavians have more respect for the English language. They also have a more British sounding accent in some cases. They even have a better grasp of English than some brits haha
I live in the uk 🇬🇧 but I can speak Swedish and I LOVE Sweden 🇸🇪 ❤️❤️❤️
I live in Sweden 🇸🇪 Thank you I Love uk 🇬🇧
Sweden or canada is the better in salaries and saving money for a single guy after the basic month expenses example [ drink , eat , rent , transport , internet ] and after taking a tax from salary ( take into consideration that the work in a restaurant or any casual works and work full time and over time ) overall in the end which is better for saving more money ????
Half seven means 18.30 in Sweden and 19.30 in the UK.
Christer Albäck haha. Half över sju, jag är mycket förvirrad
All of these are spot on! I regularly lament about people walking into me in Stockholm. In the UK there would be much 'sorry!, ah sorry!' and funny shuffly dances as we get out of each others' way. Here? None of that. Sad face.
I only ask one question: sweden is most secular (atheist) country in the world? (For china japan korea or india; they are not religious root countries, they have their own traditional folk believe or religion; for them , it should count as not-traditional, not old way)
Since the answer is yes! The choice is very clear!
I'm Italian and I don't eat on the street, and if a party starts at 7 i will be there at 7.
As a progressive swede, I will definitely call the Swedish Police Authorities ASAP and advocate a name change from The Police to ABBA. The idea has great Sting to it.
Haha I’m from England and whenever I go out I get there about ten minutes early so I’m never late
Never though about the walking with food thing, you do see people with a cup of coffe and ofc the icecream if it's sunny
Eating while walking around? Why the hell would I do that? I would need a bib - and I haven't worn one of those for some time now...
I hate people eating on the street especially on public transport. So once again Sweden is sounding more fantastic
You make us sound so structured, we’re not. People in Sweden don’t eat while moving because we know that we look ugly af when we do and always find a way to fuck it up, plus it’s pretty frustrating when you’re sitting on a bus and everyone is dead silent and you from out of nowhere pulls out an apple and take a big juicy bite of it and you have everyone looking at you wanting to kill you 😊
I want to live in Sweden when I leave school/university so I’ve been learning the language. It’s a very fun and satisfying language to learn and the culture is great, not to mention the food.
Which food?
satisfying language :)
In Stockholm we call folk that stand on the wrong side of the escalator for "lantisat" (folk from rural areas), and we walk in the same way you drive, walk on the right side and if someone is crossing your path from the right you let them pass, it is therefore doors rotate in a given direction (counterclockwise) and the escalators always go in the same direction wherever you are in stockholm, this make you able to do things on your phone without need to pay to much attention, but there are exceptions. Mother and fathers with strollers and children is something you change directions for, elderly folks that do not walk as fast, girls and boys you find attractive have priority, tourists and folk that looks scary is also something you give priority for... well, actually; the only time we act like assholes is when we see RUclipsrs with a red beard.
And handsfree for Swedes can multitask.
Edit: Btw, stop the hugging, that is something new n Sweden just for we want to feel more European; first time you shake the hand to see if you can transfer your influence to someone, after that it is okay with the "Stockholm nod" or the "Ugh" sign", back in the day when we was cultivated we did bow without need to handshake make out or bacteria transfer.
every adult in sweden loves coffe
You need to visit Kalmar in Sweden!!! it has been voted as the best summer-city in Sweden three years in a row, which means it's incredibly beautiful (in the summer)!! The people there are really nice and you'd love it so much.
You know... it´s not like New york, but everybody are always on the go, so, people don´t care for stopping by to talk, they just want it to go quick i guess, from place to place.
English people hug? Maybe among trendies. Not the general population.
Sweds love Monty Pyton and Fawlty Towers, oure sence of humor is almoust the same :D
Apologies, I thought I was already subscribed - I'm sure I was, turns out that I was not. I am now.
In fairness, I've met a lot of those people who power walk in your direction over here!
+Share My Year Nice to have you subscribed! ✌🏻 Perhaps it's just a big city thing?
Why eat while on the move when you can FIKA!
+Patrik Rydberg Why not have Fika at all times, stationary or otherwise?!
Walking Fika? Are you mad, man?!
+Patrik Rydberg It seems I am...
I thought the same thing. Why eat on the run if you don't absolutly have to? I guess most people here in Sweden combine eating with taking a break and relaxing a bit.
a hamburger is a sandwich? oh wait it's things between two pieces of bread. (yes, I did realize my own question in the same comment.)
That que thing at the lights, it is actually a law. And the car and move thing is also a law, you as a driver has to look. :)
You mention British then add England? British isn’t English. Wales Scottish N Ireland and England together are British. Act of Union 1707. Next the Union flag will only be English??
Okay, but. He has lived in England and is English. He is also British. He didn't ever say that Welsh or Scottish people weren't. When switching between the two, he mostly did it to be more specific to his lived experience of England, so as to not try to speak for the rest of the country. But referring to his experience in England as British is also correct, there's nothing wrong with that.
Personally, as England as a concept is taken on board by racists, I prefer to talk call myself British, just because to me it implies more like, multicultural Britain, than English which makes me think of the EDL and racist football fans and wankers talking about 'looking after our own'.
