Thank you, Windy, for the clearest explanation of what the Nets options are. Too many of these tv personalities are just shaking their heads at the situation without actually talking about what moves can be made from a realistic perspective. I'm kind of surprised at the 90% chance that KD is going to be traded. Do you think KD would quit playing hard like Harden if he is unhappy? @@bigchillin4216 It isn’t that the Nets *don’t* want to ride it out; they likely *can’t* due to Irving’s unpredictability. The Nets’ hands are tied if he won’t suit up and play or if he causes distractions until he gets the trade he wants.

Problem with teams trading most of their major players + future picks is the "what if" KD gets another injury = 3-4 years of paying him without his services and limiting the cap space for team. Compared to Lebron, KD already had an injury and maybe injured again.
Both KD and Kyrie won't like the narrative that they won't win another chip without Lebron if ever that happens. That will hurt both their legacies. I feel this won't happen
It doesn’t even make sense from a team perspective. Media just jewing out for Vegas bettors. Nets would have to sell the franchise if they made the trade for Westbrook and AD
@@ImOriginallyGreen Dude, this is the youtube comment section. I wasnt aware that only original and new thoughts were acceptable here. Thank you for educating me.
I think Lakers can legitimately get Kyrie now. All Kyrie has to do is tell other teams he won’t resign. Nets will get the house for KD so they’ll take anything for Kyrie.
Not really, his $36.5mill expiring contract might be viewed as extremely tempting to some. Remember, the Nets don't have their picks so tanking doesn't get them anywhere. They can move Kyrie at the deadline and collect a few roleplayers+picks and just try to recoup SOME of their losses at maybe $.30/$. Then, at the beginning of 2023-24, Kyrie can go crying back to LeBron and hope HE resigns to LA after the debacle they've had these past 3yrs - Quite honestly, watching the Nets, Lakers and 76s drama play out is the very definition of schadenfreude 😁
Yeah, doesn't matter if he wouldn't resign. A team like Dallas would take a chance on him for one year. He'd have to play if he wants a big, long term deal after this year. And Dallas would be a serious contender then.
@@fairtreatment2618 so draft compensation and an expiring contract is god awful 🤔 why keep a player who walks free when you can literally trade him for picks and a bigger expiring contract that opens up more cap space for free agency
Key sticking up for kyrie and KD throughout all this is bs. Im all for player empowerment when they are being treated poorly and not listened to (especially when they are superstars). They tried it KDs way, they were patient with Kyrie, and IT DIDNT WORK. So now do it the Team’s way. Youre way didnt work; lets try ours, honor your contract, and lets give it a shot
KD hurting cuz he left golden state and they won without him. He definitely worried of Russell Westbrook coming to Nets to play with him. The fair play of him going to PHX is that much higher
1) Cap space for future, WB only has 1 year left in his contract. It means they get to have a huge amount of cap next season. 2) That Laker future pick could be a good 1 especially if Lakers would crumble near future. 3) They can if both sides agree to have a buyout save more money for Nets 4) They can start rebuilding with no long contracts 5) Not really a priority but I dont think other teams would get Irving too in a 1:1 value, with all the drama
I am surprised KD is not honoring his commitment to the Brooklyn Nets, even if Kyrie wants out. At some point KD will have to be his own man and step up to what he signed on for. So, I believe he decide to be the leader, and will wind up playing with Brooklyn and taking that team to what the fans expected. If Kyrie and Ben Simmons want out, let them go. Together, they have the talent to go deep into the playoffs and maybe get into the finals. However, all of the players must commit themselves to honor their contractual agreements. I want to see players stop signing multi-year contracts, and then halfway through, change their mind. That's not what champions do.
Such clear, sharp, objective vision as Mr. Windhorst's, does not a GM in this league has ! That he does not run a team befuddles me. As does His wisdom in, more often than not, rewarding idiocy with a lavish hand.
If I were owner of the Nets, these would be my only considerations... 1. Bring Gregg Popovich as head coach, and keep everybody for one more year, credit to K. Wildes from First take. 2. Trade KD for only another superstar like Booker or Butler...and navegating Kirie situation by minute. 3. Trade KD and Irving as a package deal for only two other superstars like AD and Lebron (never consider Westbrook) or Booker and CP3. 3. If none of the previous, Id just keep KD and Kirie for next season anyways. If they decide not to play, I will be pissed, but KD would miss an entire season (he still has more years under contract) not playing is not likely his best option for 4 years...and sure K. Irving will be gone after next season but, how much value would he has left by then? Its either a) we both wins from trades, b)we make it work for one more year at least, or c)we mess with each other....I'll lose lot of money, you'll lose time of basketball, specially KD.
Didn't you listen to Windhorst? The Suns cannot trade Booker even if they wanted to, and they don't want to. And if the Lakers trade AD and LeBron for KD and Irving then the Lakers are nuts.
Kyrie and Seth Curry to the Lakers for Westbrook and 2 1st round picks. Westbrook and Nets negotiate a buyout. KD and Patty Mills to the Pelicans for Brandon Ingram, Herb Jones, Murphy, Larry Nance Jr. and 4 1st round picks.
So the only option for the nets to trade kd right now is vet superstar players (can't trade for designated players), young upcoming superstars that's still on their rookie deal, and draft picks. There's not a lot of teams that have all 3

Why don't the Nets decline KDs request. The Nets organization did nothing wrong to KD. They signed him last year to a 4 year more than $200 million dollar contract. Kyrie screwed up this team not the Nets. Something tells me KD wants to get away from Kyrie. All the Nets have to do is trade Kyrie or buy him out. Take a hit and keep KD and build a TEAM around KD.
They can but it would be a disgruntled star player on team. Which might be more toxic for the team, they dont have draft picks and u dont want a star player not giving a 100% cause they want to be on another team. Or he can go for the AD(Pelicans )/ Kawhi (Spurs) route where they keep on making excuse and miss games but no point in losing cause they dont own their draft picks might as well get picks or players atleast near the value
Nets 6'11 all-star with history of injuries that's healthy now, LA 6'11 all-star with history of injuries that's healthy now. Nets 6'2 all-star they don't want, LA 6'3 all-star they don't want (makes all-star sense). Their contracts match up perfectly (makes financial sense). Bron is the only player to lead Kyrie to a championship (makes leadership/chemistry sense). KD doesn't want to see GS collect more rings. AD goes on a "I'm not frail tour" and Westbrook goes on a "F**K the world tour". AND Neither KD, Kyrie, nor Bron won a playoff game last year (makes revenge sense).
Agree with madboy, plus the Nets have the leverage here... 4 years... even if KD sits out.. how long is he really going to go without playing basketball, as he loves it so much.. trade kyrie get something back, you got ben as a role player.. best chance KD'll get at a chip
Now we know why Phil Jackson is called the Zen Master. Kyrie is like Dennis Rodman a crazy personality but talented the Brooklyn Nets needed a Phil Jackson approach to Kyrie they missed there opportunity and will never be relevant again.
That is good point. The Bulls couldn't win until he was able to convince Michael to trust his teammates.. So then you you say ok Chicago might have won anyway but then Phil was able to get Shaq and Kobe to co exist.
KD heard from a source kyrie wanted a trade to the Lakers & saw that more then likely Russ would get shipped to Brooklyn as part of that trade & was like I'm out lol
AD+Russ for KD+Kyrie makes a lot of sense for Nets. Year from now, they will have AD, Simmons and tons of cap space to bring third star and contend for championship
He would go on a Ad on Pelicans / Kawhi on Spurs route where he would sit games due to a mystery injury and they dont have picks might as well get it when they trade him or players atleast near equivalent
Ill say it again, trade Kevin Durant to the OKC Thunder. Nets get: 2x 1st Round Picks in 2023, 3x 1st Round Picks in 2024, 1x 1st Round Pick in 2025, Lou Dort and Tre Mann. Thunder get: Kevin Durant KD on a team with SGA, Giddey, Poku and Holmgren would be a contender plus they have cap space even after that to still add a couple Veteran Centers. The Nets could absolutely jumpstart a rebuild around Simmons and honestly see if he is indeed a player that can be built around if he is the solo star. They already traded for him so they might as well embrace his style of play at least for 1 year. With 6 1st round picks that would guarantee the Nets a #1 overall selection and therefore a potential superstar player to add with Simmons that actually fits. Mann and Dort will develop into very good pieces around Simmons as shooters. Its not too late for the Nets to salvage this. Sam Presti needs to call up Sean Marks asap and talk about a trade package. KD’s only chance at a redemption for his legacy is to win a title with the franchise that drafted him. Nobody will kill KD for wanting to go back and make things right in Oklahoma.
6 picks and Lou dort and Tre Mann ain't enough. AD got traded for Lonzo, BI, and Hart and 4 picks (1 was a swap). OKC would need to include SGA, Giddey, Dort, another salary filler, another salary filler, and a total of 6 picks and 2 swaps. Which doesn't make sense for OKC to do it because they don’t have enough talent to put around KD after the trade so it's not happening
@@23TDJ the 6 picks arent from OKC itself. They are other teams’ picks that suck. They have all the Clippers picks. Those are EXTREMELY valuable in the future because the Clips are cash strapped, are very injury prone and arent very good right now. Its a guarantee they’ll fall off the cliff later and OKC will have all their picks. They also have the Jazz pick as well and with talks of Gobert AND Mitchell possibly being moved, that very well may end up being a top 10 pick also. Miami’s pick in 2025 after Jimmy is past his prime they have too. These are all very good future bets for draft picks because the teams they are from all have very short windows to win and no prospect after it. Making those picks essentially all lottery bound. You’re telling me the Nets cant combine 4-5 of those picks to trade up to #1 and get a guy to go with Simmons and build from there??? They arent going to a great young player from anyone for KD at this point especially now that teams know you have to move him. They should take the chance on OKC’s draft haul. If the Clippers continue to collapse as they always do, those will be some VERY high picks in 2024 and 2025.

Besides, the Nets would want players and good ones at that so it's a fantasy to think you're not giving up SGA, Chet, nor Giddey in any trade for KD.
Brooklyn nets want at least two stars back in any trade package. And you are in LA and you get to play with bron who im sure would take a back seat to Kevin to make him happy.
On paper it looks good but the drama gonna be out of the roof. All the narratives between bron, kyrie and kd. I mean will it be worth it? If you win ofc, but if not it's gonna be the same as the nets situation
Nba should make a rule, players have to honor contracts they sign. A make it where teams wouldn't be allowed to trade player's unless said player, allows it. Just an idea tho.
The reason he wants Miami or Phoenix is cuz both teams would keep their top 2 players. Phoenix keeps CP3 and Booker and Miami keeps Jimmy and Bam. I personally think Miami is a better fit since Miami needs a scorer and the other 2 are better defenders.
Milwaukee is emerging as the destination for Durant. Last few minutes. Middleton, Counington and 5 first round picks has been suggested in return. Watch this space
If the Nets play this right they should be ok. Ben Simmons is not a bad player to start a rebuild with. A 6'10 defensive player that lives in the paint off the bounce is a VERY nice building block. The Nets have shooters they can put around him right now in Seth Curry and Joe Harris. If they can get their hands on Miles Turner or another shooting big, they are heading in the right direction.
Windhorst translation: The ESPN producer told me to float the most ridiculous deal I could and now I have to own it but point out it's silly at the same time.
Kevin Durant really left the Warriors, failed in Brooklyn, then put both numbers one seeds from each conference (Heat, Suns) as his top preferences for a trade 😂 You cannot make this stuff up.
No one is asking if the Lakers or LeBron wants Kyrie. No one is asking if Laker fans want Kyrie. I’m not a Laker fan but I wouldn’t want him on the team. Remember the backlash from the fans about LeBron becoming a Laker. Wonder how the fans going to react when it does happen.

Lol yeah Wiggins came up with golden state 🤣
"Any team can trade for him because he has a 4 year contract" But the nets were in the same situation. Deals dont matter if star players want out
For the elite players in the league, it’s starting to feel like you’re signing a contract with the NBA and not any one team.
Exactly
This is the most interesting podcast of espn I've watched so far💯
I remember Kobe once asked for a trade from the Lakers. He said it publicly. The Lakers got with Kobe and worked it out. The Nets need to do the same here instead of just saying OK KD we will trade you. If KD leaves the Nets he will regret this move. This could be his team. They currently have some great players on that team if they play like a team they can make it to the Eastern Conference finals. Do what ever to get Kyrie out of there and build a TEAM around KD.
Well, KD never led his own team. And he wants to play with Kyrie cause hes just as crazy lol
The Lakers basically stole Pau Gasol from the Grizzlies that's why Kobe stayed if that does not happen who knows what happens.
IDK about "great players", definitely decent but I wouldn't say great.
@@harinderrana9735 the nets already are favorites tho. they just need a healthy roster. the lakers back then were far from being a favorite
He wants to leave because they didn't commit to Kyrie and your solution is to trade Kyrie and hope KD decides to stay. It's genius.
The man was on the Sonics and Thunder for a few bad years and kept working on his game. We still have him under contract for 3+. In any case, this is a sad situation for Nets fans.
Think the Nets made a mistake. You have KD Kyrie and Simmons. And Mills and Seth Curry, and Joe Harris. That is a foundation of a contender.
It's AMAZING on paper and it really sucks that they don't wanna ride it out. But I guess the org behind the scenes is causing problems or something
@@bigchillin4216 It isn’t that the Nets *don’t* want to ride it out; they likely *can’t* due to Irving’s unpredictability. The Nets’ hands are tied if he won’t suit up and play or if he causes distractions until he gets the trade he wants.
brian is the best. makes it so easy to understand and hear
Does contract mean anything anymore? This is getting out of control. Be sure next CBA gonna be tough. Owners ain't gonna get punked by the likes of him, harden, irving, simmons, zion, and of course mr. Glass.

I don’t think kawhi affects any of their decisions you know what your gonna get with kawhi he will have his rest days but you know when it’s time he will go out there and performed and he has delivered fairly recent and as the lead actor
I love this off season already
Problem with teams trading most of their major players + future picks is the "what if" KD gets another injury = 3-4 years of paying him without his services and limiting the cap space for team. Compared to Lebron, KD already had an injury and maybe injured again.
Lmao imagine a lineup of Ben Simmons, westbrick and Davis
it would be tough to stop and tough to score on
Both KD and Kyrie won't like the narrative that they won't win another chip without Lebron if ever that happens. That will hurt both their legacies. I feel this won't happen
Facts! They could outplay Bron and still not get credit
KD and kyries legacy is shot beyond belief after this.
well it already looks like KD can only win on a warriors team that clearly wins without him and kyrie also only won with lebron..
It doesn’t even make sense from a team perspective. Media just jewing out for Vegas bettors. Nets would have to sell the franchise if they made the trade for Westbrook and AD
@@bobhanson1037 I disagree. Only if they join the Lakers their legacy is shot

I think Lakers can legitimately get Kyrie now. All Kyrie has to do is tell other teams he won’t resign. Nets will get the house for KD so they’ll take anything for Kyrie.
why would they just take anything for kyrie?
What the lakers would offer back is god awful. Better to keep Kyrie if that’s the case

True

1) Cap space for future, WB only has 1 year left in his contract. It means they get to have a huge amount of cap next season.
2) That Laker future pick could be a good 1 especially if Lakers would crumble near future.
3) They can if both sides agree to have a buyout save more money for Nets
4) They can start rebuilding with no long contracts
5) Not really a priority but I dont think other teams would get Irving too in a 1:1 value, with all the drama
@@Moon2k. they have no picks so a rebuild will just be constantly giving up picks.

Lakers, Lakers, Lakers, Lakers.........this network will never stop.....
Kd is not a Busdriver
Such clear, sharp, objective vision as Mr. Windhorst's, does not a GM in this league has ! That he does not run a team befuddles me. As does His wisdom in, more often than not, rewarding idiocy with a lavish hand.
yet another masterpiece

Nets get: 2x 1st Round Picks in 2023, 3x 1st Round Picks in 2024, 1x 1st Round Pick in 2025, Lou Dort and Tre Mann.
Thunder get: Kevin Durant
KD on a team with SGA, Giddey, Poku and Holmgren would be a contender plus they have cap space even after that to still add a couple Veteran Centers.
No
6 picks and Lou dort and Tre Mann ain't enough.
