This is so funny to see Steve that young. So confident. He was like young Luke Skywalker. Now he´s more like Yoda. Full of wisdom. Much to learn, you still have 😆
"I've got a new album out, it's called Passion and Warfare". What he meant to say is "I've got a new album out, it's going to completely change the industry standard, raise and elevate anything you've ever heard, and make this appearance here as a member of Whitesnake a mere footnote in history."
What are talking about? That's the same old shit hippies were say in the late sixties, minus the don't do drugs claptrap. PS I'll bet Steve was coked up the whole time. LOL

Everyone saying he's egotistical here. He's way less egotistical than many other musicians were at the time, and still are today. He's behaving very humorously and not taking himself too damn seriously. What's wrong with that??
brightbite Yeah, I don't get it, I always hear people complain about his ego. He joked a lot about himself in this video, and I've seen him in serious interviews be very polite and honest, I think people confuse ego with confidence, he has confidence but I don't think he is over the top...
Well obviously here you can see that was a fashion back then. And personally i think that this is one weird phase that he was going through. This looks like he is trying to be cocky but it is not really like that. It is nothing special.
Hope you don't mind me replying on a year old comment, but I'm also flabbergasted at people thinking Steve has an ego when he's just having fun. I still have a German guitar magazine from 2003 featuring an interview with him where he had stated that he finds it weird how people regard him as a great guitar virtuoso when he knows plenty people that could easily outplay him. He's part genius, part goofball, all around wonderful musician.
this is gonna sound weird but the one actor that I think looks the most like Vai is Christian Bale. I don't know if that's still the case because they seem to age a bit differently. But if you look at Vai in that movie where he plays some kind of asshole... (crossroads?). I was shocked at how much he looked like Bale. Of course their demeanor is not the same but Bale is such a great actor and if he shed the weight down again I think he could probably play him great. Now... of course I don't think there's any plan to make a movie about Vai...

great album, but I disagree. I don't think I dislike a single record he's put out. He fires on all cylinders. The styles shift, but the passion's always there
If I could go back to 1990 I would of totally bought one of the 7 string guitars and hope on the bandwagon way before everyone starting playing 7 strings
I dont think it was a ego check. The names he was mentioning before hand were labels/groups. Steve Vai is a person. It would be weird to refer yourself as a group. He knows it and everyone else knows there will only be one Steve Vai, so why mention it as an option people can become part of?
You misunderstand. I wasn't upset by your comment. I think Steve's music is great, you think it's horrible. The internet is big enough for the both of us. My point regarding the horror was the analog process of writing letters vs modern day digital correspondence.
Just how he was so humble, not getting big head while being so young and probably the best electric guitarist in the world is so admirable! and besides - did not take drug!!
I've seen Steve Vai live a few times and he has a way of interacting with the audience with humour, great playing and just an all round great show. For those who think it's going to be a boring guitar chops exhibition that only guitar players will enjoy, think again . Steve Vai is a gift to the world 🤘

In this video, Steve is the textbook definition of “I’m sexy and I know it”
Oh hey, back when MTV didnt suck.
MTV pretty much fucked everything up with music...
MTV always was bad.
You simply are associating being young with mtv
@@cosmosgato No. MTV did not suck back in the days.
i feel old i watched this live back when it debuted
Steve Vai is a such a great person. He’s a total class act.
Your Nickname rocks
"There's a lot of body parts you can use to play guitar, I can show you some legal ones!" The look in his eyes when he said that cracked me up.
Steve seems like such a chill guy who just enjoys life. You never see him complain or talk trash about anyone in his interviews.
"What it is, is a 6 string, with an extra low string for..." ***brrrewwwwwwwgh***
"... getting sick."
like who does that shit xD legendds do
Steve is yet another one of those guitarists that is just on another level concerning talent. His playing is sick.
who would've thought when this video was made, that the P&W album would become one of the all time greatest albums! Love the man \m/

back when music television was actually music television. I miss headbanger's ball!
I remember watching this. The good old days. To go back 30 yrs.
Watched this on VHS at my parents' place the day after it aired. I always loved how he pronounced the word "debut" with a hard T at the end.
That was more articulate than about 90% of these classic headbangers ball episodes I’ve seen
Just saw him live tonight .... phenomenal as ever
I can remember watching this very episode as a teenaged guitar newbie!
Vai has the longest fingers I've seen , its no wonder he can play so well.
He has changed and matured his demeanour... his more humbled, relaxed and deep
Awesome Artist, Thanks Mr. Vai Sir Steve vai 🇧🇻👨🎤🎸👍👏👏🙏
This was the time I started playing guitar..Vai was just the ultimate guitar god at the time..
Encore maintenant
27 years and we're still shitting on the environment.

I wish he would have kept playing "Hina" from Skyscraper for more than 4 seconds. That's such a badass riff
I know right. One of his best riffs
