- Due to Nintendo's never-ending takedowns of my Super Mario Bros. Wonder modding videos, I've decided to pivot my channel away from those kinds of videos for the time being.

I wish Nintendo could be more like SEGA, whos really relaxed on mods and fan games, which gives them a better reputation when it comes to fan creations. Hell, even Sonic Mania was MADE by fans. Nintendo would not do that for a single breath.
I even watched an interview with GamesCage and Iizuka where he directly mentions how people mod their games to change up the gameplay
Being a SEGA fan: recieve official games that are hit or miss but they're completely fine and relaxed on mods and fan games, giving them a better reputation when it comes to the fan creations.
Being a Nintendo fan: recieve official games that are most times big bangers but they aren't fine and relaxed on mods and fan games, and taking down popular projects and risking the future of WIP popular fan creations.

Dude, Sega is just sitting around allowing their fanbase to give one of their most infamous games a redemption arc.
This is easily why I love Sega a lot more when it comes to their fanbase and how much they care about them outside of sales or sum.
@@ColinJoesseppiVEVO but they're also embracing their past now, due to Kingdom Valley and Rail Canyon being put in Shadow Generations. It shows they're not not as afraid of what they've done before now, and are looking to redeem themselves. That's what a company should do. Engage with the audience, remake games that deserve it, and embrace their past mistakes and fix them.

I think its not fair that ninento is trying to crush a creative mind like yourself. I wholeheartedly believe that nintendo should take a page out of Sega's book and actually offer fans of their games the actual tools to make a master piece and actually properly publish it. For this, and many reasons I have honestly stopped caring about modern nintendo and stuck to the Nintendo Wii bubble of things. I hope you can find your place elsewhere as well. Maybe We'll even run into eachother on the nintendo modding side. I know we share a few discord servers. haha.

There is no NSMB Direct in the works at the moment because there don't seem to be enough projects in development at the moment, something which is out of my control.

For what it's worth, I'm still gonna continue buying, playing, and talking about Nintendo games for years to come. I enjoy their games and want to support the company so they can continue making those games more than I dislike their practices.

As someone who only watches your videos every now and then I would definitely enjoy seeing content from you about stuff other than Mario Wonder modding. A devlog series about you making a game would be absolute awesome to watch and I'd definitely stick around to watch it!
I'm impressed you've stuck it out as long as you have. Modding content is interesting even if it's not the hot new game. SMO mods have come a long way in the last few years, so that may be fun.

I just don't understand how this works. Mean, there are lots of Wonder modding videos from other authors already that I've seen, but they never actually complained that Nintendo stops them from making those videos. It's either they prefer to stay quiet or there is just random guy who hates your channel, even though don't see a reason for it, great content, and I love this new (hand drawn?) owl

That's an extremely impressive project, but it doesn't really interest me. If I wanted to make custom 3D Mario levels, I have the skills to do so by modding the games, I don't need a limited tool like that to do so. Super Mario 64 is also far from my favourite 3D Mario game, I'd much rather make custom Super Mario 3D World levels.

I hate how Nintendo makes much more pro-consumer games than their AAA rivals, and so feels like they can even that out by being absolutely antagonistic towards their fanbase as a result. I honestly believe that's why they feel like they can do things like that.
The thing is Their developers and employees are separated from the DMCA legal team in Japan that makes those decisions, The problem is when people blame Nintendo as a whole they drag them and considering the fact they have nothing to do with the situation and it's a little bit frustrating From my point of view
I agree with M64bros, I don't think Nintendo's legal practices should be a reason for people to stop buying, playing or supporting their games.

Why are they doing this? I've seen DGR, Blue Television Games, ZXMany, etc. all make videos about mario mods and rom hacks, but then you make one and Nintendo's like "Oh this guy again". One of the Nintendo employees running the channel must be your old elementary school friend or something like that that feels betrayed because you didn't give him gum or something and now has a grudge against you.
Yes that might be the most frustrating part. It would almost feel better if Nintendo very consistently took down every Wonder mod video, but as you pointed out, there are loads of bigger RUclipsrs who have many more popular Wonder mod videos than my own, and those have mostly been fine. I'm happy for those creators of course, but it does suck that I've basically been singled out.
I don't care what game it is, your voice and style are irreplaceable. Keep making stuff, and keep making dives into how you make said stuff, it's very fun!

listen, nintendo is the company that i love because of their games characters and lovable experiences, but they are extremely stingy with their IPs. why can’t they be like sega where the literally ENCOURAGE sonic fan art and fangames. nintendo has been doing this stuff for years now but is it really worth it? i mean i love your content a ton man but like you said i guess you just can’t continue with it until the next console or the support for the switch stops :(

I think it's a common misconception that DMCA takedowns only happen on RUclips, Nintendo can take down Google Drive uploads just as easily as anything else.

I want NSMBU modding is soo good but sad thing is That all mods for NSMBU are 1 world maximum 2 world and there is not a single 9 world which is sad that all good mods for nsmbu were canceled
Pretty lucky that RUclips sided with you so far, many time they just throw creators under the bus. I do think this is malicious abuse from Nintendo though, but as the little guy what can we do? Regardless, I wish you good luck with your future content and I hope you and the community return to Wonder one day.
Even so, to think you'll still like to support Nintendo and make videos about their games even after what they did to you, are you really so spineless as to not dish them out completely? You do have lots of potential and experience to pursue other kinds of content, but it's your call anyways.
That was a really nice and thoughtful comment until you called me spineless lol. I feel like most Nintendo fans can agree on how terrible many of Nintendo's practices in relation to their fandom are while still enjoying their games and supporting the company as a whole. I'd rather they screw over a tiny fraction of their fans instead of their employees like most modern game companies do. Nintendo is so notorious for taking down fan-made projects that I can't even pretend to be mad at them for it anymore, even when it happens to me personally. Maybe that is spineless, I don't know, but I'd rather continue supporting a company that has wronged me than stop playing and talking about some of my favourite games of all time out of spite.
If you're in nintendo's crosshairs you are screwed. Nintendo is very persistent when it comes to dmca and they will win.

The creation of those depends entirely on the amount of mods that are currently in development, and at the moment that's not a lot.

I think Nintendo's mindset is that modding videos promote modding and modding can promote piracy to some extent, so that's why they may be doing this. Nintendo has been the largest target for piracy for years at this point and having an easily modifiable console that can be emulated easily doesn't help much. But I do think doing this is a little harsh. Us modders are just passionate creators who want to show their work, nothing more, nothing less.
While I haven't faced a strike yet, I do have a disclaimer below my videos that feature mods stating that my content isn't monetized and isn't made with the intent of copyright violation because I want to prevent a situation like this. No idea if that works or not, but I guess we'll see.
What I hope Nintendo will do in the future is put as many games on the Virtual Console, maybe discount some of their older titles, and maybe even decide to allow modding to some extent via a development mode of sorts, though that would open up the door for piracy. Not sure how they would do the last part.
I think you're right about Nintendo being so strict about this stuff due to their fight against piracy. Things like disclaimers, not monetising videos, making more vague video titles, any of that kind of stuff hasn't worked for me. There are loads of Super Mario Bros. Wonder mod videos all across RUclips, some with more views than my own, which haven't been affected. The only consistent thing about Nintendo is their inconsistency.

Or you could just put the title of the original idea you had but the video will be a big red text that says "link in the description" and you put an unlisted video on that link that shows the usual content. This way you dont minimize your audience and you minimize the risk of Nintendo taking your content down. You do you tho.

The only consistent thing about Nintendo is their inconsistency, there are loads of unaffected Mario Wonder mod videos all over RUclips.
I suppose that's because Nintendo isn't aware of you as your following isn't as nearly a big as Rimea's for example

@@Rimea I didn't know you did artwork. I just figured you commissioned someone. Your artwork looks really good! Since you are going to be doing different kinds of videos for the time being, maybe consider doing something art related? I know I'd be interested in that at least.
@@Whimz I did commission my profile picture, it was made by Dokotroopi, but I drew all the other poses myself based on his work. That basically encapsulates my artistic abilities, I'm pretty good at recreating an existing artwork or logo or style or whatever, but I'm not as good at making stuff from scratch myself. Although I appreciate the sentiment, it's definitely not something I'm confident enough in to make videos about it.

That's... miff. I can only imagine the reason RUclips hasn't removed Content ID from Nintendo is that they're afraid they'll go to court instead.

I'm working on finishing the NSMB mods I stopped working on when Wonder released, though I'm a bit scared of putting any NSMB mod stuff out on RUclips at the moment, because Nintendo might take those videos down regardless.
Nintendo doesn't realise how much heart and soul goes into these videos, not just out of pure love for their games, but to show them any improvements or additions that could be made.
They don't want to see the harsh truth that their games aren't going to be played, but that's what they always think, even if it is their game that is being used. I mean this sort of thing had happened to a Roblox Pokémon game, which is crazy...

Heres the thing: nintendo hate everyone who record their games
This is one of the things I hate most about Nintendo. They love taking down videos related to their games for no reason whatsoever. If anything, they should be taking down gameplay videos, as that spoils the games and could, in theory, lower sales. But no, they decide to take down modded videos and soundtrack reuploads. It’s like they only want people to enjoy the base game and nothing else. They worked so hard on the game, why don’t they want people to get creative and show off the best parts of it? In theory, this would increase sales. I’ve bought a few games myself because of modded videos and soundtracks posted here. Honestly, Nintendo needs to lay off on anything that won’t spoil the game too much before release and leaks. It’s quite stupid imo.
I would be SUPER down to watching you do game dev stuff. (I'm working on a game right now and it's always cool to see what others are working on.) :)
That said, I like the style of your videos and your stuff in general, so looking forward to whatever you work on next. ^_^

My comment got deleted I think but you could definitely try putting some videos on a patreon. I'm sure a lot of people would love to support the work youre doing and if you feel uncomfortable charging for them you can offer them on there for free. Not sure if nintendo would go after them or not but even if they do it wont affect your channel.
Putting videos that have been taken down on Patreon was actually something I thought of myself some time ago. However, now that it seems like I can't upload new wonder modding videos to RUclips at all, I don't think Patreon really makes sense for me anymore, since I think it would only work as an extension of an active RUclips channel, not as my sole platform.
