and not just in a few places. it's like this in at least 25 different places in the city i can think off the top my head. you are not safe in a "nice" neighborhood in New Olreans!

no one is saying that dude. in fact idk about 13stJimmy but i'm saying the opposite. we all live together in the same city. rich ass people live blocks away from the ghetto and don't care, it's New Orleans. they just lock their doors at night and have more than enough guns to protect themselves. with that being said New Orleans is up there on the list of the most dangerous cities and i was only saying don't think that you're safe at 2 a.m. in a nice neighborhood, that means nothing in this city.

Thank you for sharing this. I have a friend of a friend who was killed on Mardi Gras day in the Lower 9th. It is saddening that there can be so much hate.
That area is the Treme-Lafitte neighborhood. It is a historic black neighborhood that is rich in culture and history. Like most of New Orleans it is becoming gentrified.
The man you interviewed. Maybe he meant to say Central City or anywhere directly above Claiborne Ave. The Bourgeois consider Uptown to be where the rich people live. There are shootings everywhere in the city, no matter the economic status. He's from New Orleans East, which is a pretty bad area too.
New Orleans is like a checkerboard tapestry with poor next to rich and black next to white.

Alot of my relatives live in New Orleans. Back in the 80s it was the place to be. I wanted to live there so badd. Now, Hell to the nawl! Them iggas gone crazy!!!😬 i have many family members that have been murdered there with no arrests. So many black guys are being senselesly murdered... New Orleans has turn into a big crime zone. If you cannot afford to live in the more upper class areas then its a wrap. Your life will be in danger. If you love your children especially your black sons, DONT MOVE THERE! The whole city is corrupt. Sometimes i think New Orleans is cursed.😦

This is the case for any major American city where there are a concentration of poor black people in a community - not just in New Orleans. What about Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, DC, Philly, Camden NJ, Miami, Memphis, Houston, etc etc.? Fast-money, gang affiliations, stereotypical lifestyles, and violence abound.

Skin color don’t matter in New Orleans and there aren’t any gangs at all. Gangs tried to move into the crescent city at one point but realized they could gain no footing with the Cajun and Creoles. You can imagine if the gangs of the United States are unable to survive in the city there’s gotta be something different to it. New Orleans is much different from those other cities on your list, especially when it comes to criminal activity and general evil. Its a rough place to grow up but it thickens your skin. I’ve been able to walk through places people talk about like they are tough places with ease due to my New Orleans/Baton Rouge up bringing. South central LA, the Bronx and Brooklyn, Memphis ghettos, Dallas, south Philly. They were a little rough but honestly a cake walk compared to areas like Desire, Freret, saint Thomas, Calliope, Melpomene the whole thing really. All of it from top to bottom. Even the French quarter you can get stretched out quick. Even when I lived across the river in Jefferson parish in Harvey I seen somebody dead every other day. It’s a different type of feeling, a very evil feel to it. It’s definitely not just like all those other cities on your list but I guess if you never see it firsthand you would never know and it ain’t really easy to explain.

Hi Charlie. The audio on the interview wasnt very good. Since I understand you dont have budget for professional audio-stuff here's a tip to overcome the issue: Repeat the persons answers. It benefits not only us, but you as well. I feel like, when someone is answering to you, you are allready thinking about the next question. When you have to repeat answers you'll be more focussed on the other person and what he/she actually says. It gives you more time to think about your next question and makes it easier to ask more relevant questions about a specific topic. Like 'so you say this and that, does this mean..'. For the rest, keep doing what you do, I love this channel.

Looks like upper ninth Ward if I had to guess. I go to college about 3hr away from New Orleans and do a lot of urban exploration there because there's so many abandoned buildings. The upper ninth is honestly worse than the lower ninth in my opinion. Whole subdivisions completely trashed and rotting. It doesn't look like America it looks like some war torn third world country and it's a shame places like this exist in the US. Overall though the people of nola are mostly genuine and friendly and everyone seems to get along together, white black, etc. I guess there is plenty drug related and gang violence here too though. The city is absolutely trashed, one of the worst I've seen, but also some of the nicest people of any major city, especially considering the conditions most live in here.

That's a sad video BUT it's a way of life!
    "Joker's" don't give a fuk about each other....PERIOD!!!
    It's not a white/black thing it's a poverty/Hood thing.
You see this 2x a week for some years...you too wouldn't give a chit about human life.
We as humans need to get to a place where WE are together/common as a community.....to care about each other.
Black folks need to realize what's happening......,........

judging by the racist rhetoric in the comments, most people don't know it's an issue of poverty and not race.

Damn Charlie you should be doing some documentaries and stuff. You can make a living at the same time making a difference with crime in communities.

I tell my nieces and nephews, this is why you try hard in school. This is the MAIN reason you WANT to grow and develop into a flower not a weed.
