SD Kid thanks for your vids! I grew up on a family dairy farm in Meridian, Idaho. It is now a full "section" of houses. It is not easy, keep your head up and keep the videos coming. Not many of you strong willed kids remain!!! I have a lot of respect for you and your family.
I'm milking cows down here in New Zealand. Man alive you guys have a capital and labour intensive system! We are situated in the Bay of Plenty area of NZ. Temperature range all year round varies between about 10 to 30 degrees Centigrade. All animals are outside, grass fed all year round. Meal feeders in the cow shed on our property, not all farmers bother with them. You talked about feed costs going up, grass just keeps growing for us thankfully. We don't have a protected market, if we are not competitive we are history. Good vid. Cheers.
You have to convince the cows that it is a cow door. Love the drone shot of the new construction. You have a very impressive farm. Greart video as usual. Thanks Jan. Till next time, peace.
@6:00 I had to laugh at the steer who challenged the front end loader that was going to drop dirt to fill up his hole. He took a couple loads to the head. Pretty funny that he wouldn't stay out of the way.
What a crazy cow,,,also I never knew the black and white to dig,,,at least our old boss,didn't..haha good video...always informative,,thanks farmers for good milk...
After dry cow antibiotic treatment it might not be a bad idea to spray paint or identify just in case a cow somehow escaped and got back into the lactating pen. Trust me as a former milk inspector it has happened. I recall one time dry cows were moved 3 concessions away and one cow jumped 3 fences broke some gates and got back in with lactating cows. Antibiotic inhibitor penalties are huge. I am super impressed with parlour cleanliness / hygiene and of course milking procedures are goals standard.
That was really cute how that bull was so playful. I’m excited for you on that construction. Can’t wait to see more progress. 10th Gen’s construction went really fast on his heifer barn and it’s now in full operation so now it’s your turn ! All the best ! Great video !
Hi Jan. Great video as usual, you cram alot of work into your day, you must fall into bed at night completely knackered. All these cows produce so much crap, i cant begin to imagine what it must smell like, the picture shows a scene that looks really clean and nice for a farm but can you capture what it smells like, and that poor old skid steer just looks like a mobile crap, i dread to think what its like inside, yet you always look so clean and tidy! Even when you get out of it. I suppose you must be used to it and dont even notice any smell. Love your accent by the way could listen to you for hours.
My favorite time of year because it meant less work for me. We only had 200 in our herd and always tried to stagger the calving. Thanks for your videos, I'm almost 80 now and will not miss any of your videos.
That large section that will end up being in between the 2 barns could be filled in with water tanks. Prime location to be fed from most of the roof tops and would give you something to use in an otherwise inaccessible part of the farm. Could probably stockpile the rain water if there is another dry year to spray over some acreage to increase yield
I have really enjoyed your videos and have learned very much about things very interesting to me. Appreciate your commendable efforts in that regard. Best wishes to you all.. Tom..
Great videos loving the content. I am surprised you haven’t covered the barn roofs in solar panels you would get a great return lol watching from the UK 😃
Cows personalities are my favourite of any production animal next to Chickens, also that is one caked on bobcat haha it’s got it’s own organic fenders now
Hey Jan, I't summer time! We've been watching the farm videos for a long time now, why don't you switch it up? Take us on a personal day. Do you ever have fun? Take the hat off, and heck - your shirt, and show us what you do with the little time you have with the sun and warm temps up there. I think all your viewers would enjoy it, and it would be something fresh and fun! Thanks for your hard work informing us and entertaining us. - J
Horses will poop by the fence to escape eventually. That steer wanted to fight. 😂To bad for the 25 drying up. I guess it’s expected eventually. Gorgeous farm. I love Canada.
I remember dairy farms in southern California, watching this reminds me of the smell and how good the milk was. I think the milk we buy in markets now days is watered down.
Correct. Raw milk from the cow contains from about 5% to 7 or 8% butterfat. But in the USA, regulations allow milk producers to label as "whole milk" anything over 4%. So they strip out all that to make cream, half'n half, etc. and add back only enough to bring it up to the legal minimum for 'whole milk'. They didn't used to do that, so milk DID taste better. Also why a lot of yuppie new-age fools claim that unpasteurized, raw milk tastes better -- of course it does, it has a higher butterfat content, which is most of the taste.
I don't know if I'm the only one but I think you should show more sh!t pushing with the tire! It so satisfying, that's what we used back in my milking day and it does such a great job even on ridges
Good luck on everything y’all do I hope that the prices come down for all of the citizens of the world and thanks to all the farmers that feeds the world that God will be there for all the farmers amen
This video really says a lot for wh rats going on at your operation. There out is all it of cement work and manure to haul out besides all the milking. It's going to be fun to see it all completed. Good luck
Hey ya, Jan. So I know this is kinda weird but as I watch your videos I wonder at times what the cows are thinking and how complex their thoughts might be. For instance, in this video you dried-off 20+ cows who have been in the exact same routine for months. Their world was limited to the main barn, the milk barn, and maybe a side trip to get their hooves trimmed (cow-pedicure) then all of the sudden they are dried-off and moved to a different barn. I notice they seem excited. I wonder if they remember the last time they made that move or is it new every time? I think it is interesting to wonder how complex their thinking may or may not be. It seems that every now and then us viewers get a glimpse of what might be a cow personality or something similar to what we might notice as personality. Maybe my thinking is nonsense. Anyway, I find the work that you are fortunate to do as fascinating. Thank you for your time filming, editing, and sharing with us.
What happens to the material you inject into the cow's teats to be dried? Is it a "plug?" Does it just dissolve over time so next season the milk can flow? Or is it some medication that stops the udder from producing milk?
I used to haul at a farm that had a 12’ deep pit that held 1.1 million U.S. Gallons. He put 1’ a week into that pit. Had a second one put in right beside for their heifer barn, and we always have to go and transfer about 4’ from the dairy pit to the heifer pit so he can hold for 6 months….
Question.... In your cow barn do you leave the lights on all night? Maybe a night light so they won't get scared and can see to get up and go to the restroom? Seriously, do your cattle sleep or doze?
When milking grab the front milkers one in each hand and put them on at the same time the grab the back to and do the same it was very efficient in speed and makes milking go faster I ran a double 12 parlor I was the only milker and my bro was the only scraper Jan give it a try hopefully my advice is worth a look at

That drone shoot of the outside cows is amazing
Thanks Jan for the great explanation and the virtual tour of the dairy!👍
Lots of progress on the new barn. Thank you for the detailed explanation on the build. Another great video
This was a great video; well planned and executed.
This was a great post and thanks for sharing. I love the drone shots of the whole farm. Have a nice safe day!!!
hey Jan,thanks for your story today.i loved your drone work, now i have seen your hole farm from the sky.
Another busy day on the farm, you never cease to amaze me! Keep well! 🇨🇦
That one cow was desperate to stop you from filling in that whole 😅 The packed barn is coming along well. It's going to look good when it's finished.
You would be blown away with how we farm in New Zealand 🇳🇿 just like how I blown away with the way you guys farm
Jan, you and your cows are the best.
Busy day on the farm. Thanks for sharing with us Jan.
Another great video Jan. I don't know how you can manage to always make so them interesting and informative, but I am very grateful that you do!
What a crazy cow,,,also I never knew the black and white to dig,,,at least our old boss,didn't..haha good video...always informative,,thanks farmers for good milk...
u can see the dutch roots, a nice and clean farm
Howdy from Texas!
That one Steer was pissed that you were filling that hole up.
Hey I worked hard on that he said.
This farm is absolutely beautiful. Love the drone shots.

Wow! Your operation is wonderful. Loved seeing the new construction … thanks!

Its called Legend rubber for the alleys . The stuff is fantastic.✌️
Loved the drone shots of the farm.
Being a city boy in Seattle I am so amazed by farm life.
That new barn is coming along nice! I can’t wait to see it all finished. 👍❤️🐄

Enjoyed the drone footage. Great job!!

Nice sand shower one of them got!
That was funny.
First time I've seen cows digging an escape tunnel.
I learn so much from these videos. Thanks
One of your most informative videos -- great job
Can't wait to see the new barn addition.🐮🐮🐮
My job is to pay dairy farmers. Your videos really give me an understanding of how hard dairy farmers work and how difficult it is.
Love the aerial pictures. Always love your videos. Blessings to all.
Great job and your Bobcat is crying for a pressure washer clean up!!!😉
Dude…. That was SO harsh moving the seat… 🤣
Hey, just subbed to your channel. I really like what I see so far, and look forward to catching up to present day! Be well.
Steers are always so goofy lol we raise our bull calves to finshed steers and it's interesting what they can do lol
I remember dairy farms in southern California, watching this reminds me of the smell and how good the milk was. I think the milk we buy in markets now days is watered down.
It just has all the cream and half the protein removed.
Yeah that's about the same as being watered down, IMO.

Love your channel. I watch two dairy channels, yours and the 10th generation dairyman. Both are great.
*Sending appreciation and 💘 from Seattle!*
Thanks for another great video 😊👍 🐄
great and awesome video, Jan. Barn is lookin great. Be glad when it is finish. Thank you for all that you do for us.
I don't know if I'm the only one but I think you should show more sh!t pushing with the tire! It so satisfying, that's what we used back in my milking day and it does such a great job even on ridges
Love the drone shots
Friday morning in New Zealand coffee break, due to lockdown will watch this now.
What was the average production on the last milking (before drying them off)? And what is the average production at their peak?
Good luck on everything y’all do I hope that the prices come down for all of the citizens of the world and thanks to all the farmers that feeds the world that God will be there for all the farmers amen
Maybe those steers were trying to tunnel out to freedom. Steak looked upset when you backfilled the hole
They already fat why can’t jan send them to packing plant
@@calebmanuel17 They keep them for a year, then off to market. Don’t know why. Possibly more humane than sending to finishing areas?
Great Video, thanks for sharing
I like your videos mate. Always wanted to work on the farm. And my dream to have my own farm. It's not easy job but still exciting.
This video really says a lot for wh rats going on at your operation. There out is all it of cement work and manure to haul out besides all the milking. It's going to be fun to see it all completed. Good luck

Helps stop mastitis infections Disappears after a few weeks
No, you strip the teat and it just comes out
Expansion project coming along great hope u guys get the manure out before it over flows what a huge mess that would be
Great video as always Jan, thank you.
Jan!!!!! You shaved!! Cute as ever.
Jan awesome content and edit as usual. Great job. 👍👍👍

Love your videos, Naxt try pressure washing that skid steer, it might go faster.
Maybe you could try washing your mouth with soap and water, maybe your spelling will get better lol
Top video by a top lad, keep up the good work from the U.K.
Loved seeing the cows! Mooooooo!
Your farm is beautiful
Thanks for another great video.
Always that one in the group.
Thanks for the video. 🚜🇺🇸🚜🇺🇸☮️
enjoyed your video....keep up the good work. Very informative.
Goed bezig, ziet er netjes uit. 👍👍
Question.... In your cow barn do you leave the lights on all night? Maybe a night light so they won't get scared and can see to get up and go to the restroom? Seriously, do your cattle sleep or doze?
I 100% heard a solid when you filled in the hole
Jan, what happened with the fencing around the manure pit?
Hell yeah!!! Wondering if he put the" No swim" sign on the fence😅😂😂
Fantastic 👀Aerials👀
That steer was taking exception to you filling the hole
YAY !! 3 month VACA !! ....we're getting all your rain down here in the states this summer... :-\
Roughly what was the cost of the new bin?
Why dont you use your big articulated tractor to haul the tanker? or doesnt it have a pto.
What were you injecting into the utters after milking them? Was that something to help dry them up? Love the videos always, keep up the good work!
love your videos I worked in Mexico for many years on a dairy farm I was in charge of general maintenance I would like to work on your farm greetings
Awesome Video Jan. Will you have a man door that leads in to the area between the new pack barn and existing barn?
Amazing work bro🙏🙏
When milking grab the front milkers one in each hand and put them on at the same time the grab the back to and do the same it was very efficient in speed and makes milking go faster I ran a double 12 parlor I was the only milker and my bro was the only scraper Jan give it a try hopefully my advice is worth a look at
Use them to put an intank agitation so sand doesn’t settle while moving
Very Nice
Great video.
How many gallons will the manure pit hold?
