- NIGHT TRAIN with Noble Blackwell. Some of you remember this show in the mid 60's. Sit back and enjoy. Some of the artist: Jimmy Church, HyTones (Cameronites- Eddie Frierson, Freddie Waters, Robert Holmes, Skeet Alsup)), Freddy North (Cameronite),Spidels, Avons, Ironing Board Sam, Joe Perkins, and others.
I watched this every weekend with my stepdad.
Noble Blackwell was my uncle... yes this was inspiration for Soul Train... he turned it down.. not wanting to leave Nashville at that time....
I played bass with Hal Hardy in 1980 1981 and 1996. R.i.p. my Dear friend Love you Hal. 💥🎤
This fun is as fresh now as it was back then. On these nights, we were right in front of the TV clapping our hands, smiling, and just enjoying great entertainment.
Thank you so much, @JCTSU.
Betty we fell in love with Ironing Board Sam . He was our Sly and The Family Stones
No‼️ 🤣 Really ⁉️
To me, he was comical and intriguing to watch. Love? Naw to the Naw Naw Naw. The Avons and the Hi Tones, on the other hand, were phenomenal. Francesca Bard became a friend in 10th grade while I was at Pearl. Then, we worked together in our 20’s. I was very sad to learn of her passing maybe 20 years later in Arizona, I think.
WOW
Such magnificent Black American Music 🎶🎵 History
Great show. Joe Perkins with that Roy Hamilton vibe.
THANK YOU TONY
A teen ager at the time, had heard of Night train, but never really watched it . Good to see, and never heard of these singers.
Funky as they wanna be! 1965 was the height of Soul.
WLAC 5 TV, late Saturday night in Nashville as a kid I was glued watching Night Train! So much local talent many of whom I've had the opportunity to know personally and play bass guitar with! Very nostalgic video! So many memories! Thanks for sharing!
I've never even heard of Night Train! This is great!! This had to be the inspiration for Soul Train.
Yes, I never thought of it that way but yes it could have.
Even better than Soul Train. This is straight performances. Live and lip sync.
This is really great. Such great singing and playing. So much better than American Bandstand or Soul Train.
THANK YOU AND THE SHOW CAME OUT OF NASHVILLE TENNESSEE IN THE 1960"S
This show is twice as fine as home made wine!
@@jctsu4262 From England.
Thanks for that. Nice to see some of the artists we're familiar with over here actually performing though it was odd to see so many cover versions instead of original songs. Joe did his Musicor 45 but the other soul acts didn't seem to. I guess maybe some acts had nothing issued at that time ?
Interesting to see Avons and Hytones on there with Bob Holmes who wrote songs for them issued on A-Bet I assume a little later in '66/'67.
Here in the UK we kinda dug out this obscurer 60's soul in a search for danceable tracks to play in clubs specialising in that genre of music. A white working class scene starting late 60's and still going strong today.
Hytones [link here] is a fantastic track. Wonderful harmonies.

Ain't no music like that of black music 🎶🎶🎶
You ain’t lied yet😅!
Thanks for posting this classic video! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. These are rare , one of a kind performances!
No problem Ray. They are very special performances. Did you see any when you were growing up. We had to slip and stay up to watch them.
My pleasure! Ray
Vintage commercials are the icing on the cake. The Hytones, Noble Blackwell and a girls group (The Avons?) doing a commercial for Rudy's Farm, sausages around the 32:26 time line.
Yes those commericials are timeless.
Excellent post 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾. Such rare performances! Thanks for posting 🙏🏾
