They’re not all awful movies, though several of them are worse than most. From Nathan Drake in Uncharted to Mewto in Detective Pikachu here are 10 Video Game Characters That Movies Got Completely Wrong!

I think the Hitman franchise will do way better as a TV show with each episode centering around the contracts and the overarching plot throughout the season.
Indeed. Hitman is a concept that needs to be fleshed out, which a 2 hour movie simply cannot do. A TV series would be much better for it.
Though I think it should stay as a gaming franchise only. The games give so much more than a movie or a series can because it gives us the choice of assassination, and allows us to play it however we want.
As long as Agent 47 isn't some Action Hero or have "Feelings" about people. Be a cold blooded contract killer and figure out ways how to kill his target(s).
Or one movie about a single target which is like a tense game of cat and mouse between 47 and someone who is either skilled or smart enough to survive against 47
I sort of agree. I also think Absolution got a bad rap because of the Bondage Nuns trailer. The story actually picked right up after Blood Money (not that anybody remembers the story) and makes the girl, indirectly, his daughter. I actually liked the battered, scarred older version of 47 as well. I'd been playing the games since the first so maybe it's an age thing.
The tv show Hanna provides the perfect background for a tv show, the rise of Agent 47 from a child to an assassin machine going through various contracts with characters remaining intelligent and assassinations being surprising and pulled off perfectly for the most part with ingenuity to overcome the obstacles.
Why do people keep acting like Mark Wahlberg is a great actor? He can only play at pissed off guy from Boston or a really clueless pissed off guy from Boston
To be fair Pyramid Head skinning that woman with his hands was pretty dope.
Seems like something an Executioner would do for those who disobey the cult. I hate how people just call him James' demon when it had roots in something he may have seen at the historical society
The main reason why I refuse to watch the Uncharted movie despite loving the franchise is because the casted someone that looks like a middle schooler to play Nathan Drake
Literally everyone in Welcome to Raccoon City was a prime example of character assassination. I can't believe that they turned my fave girl Jill into an ill disciplined, trigger happy psycho, the worst bit is that HJK could have been a perfect Jill Valentine, had there been a competent script.
Uwe Boll sold his soul to be a director and neglected to include being a good one.
Sindel got rebooted as being truly evil in MK11, so I guess that’s the only thing MK2 the movie got right.
Why haven't movie studios realize Mark Walhberg is a one note actor? Literally the same person in every film he does.
I mean Mewtwo was never really 'bad', he just misunderstood everything. He had been raised as a test tube pokemon to be fair. Dumb one to add there imo.
“There is no instance of a nation benefitting from prolonged warfare.”

Unless you sell the weapons. Preferably to both sides, and also to keep stoking the flames, so they will continue to buy.
@@timothygraham4304 But the seller is not a nation, so the ancient Chinese dude still was right.
@@Mediados Might I introduce you to America, you know, the country that sells arms to whoever wants them, and tries to make sure they want them?
@@timothygraham4304 The USA don't produce weapons, American companies in cooperation with the state do. Doesn't make it any better, but the faction gaining the most benefit is the manufacturer.
@@Mediados and usa and a bunch of other countries have sold or gave weapons to other countries enemy to benefit there own greed
The Max Payne games didn’t go from strength to strength. 1&2 were unique, freaky, polished action games set in brilliant worlds with amazing storytelling. 3 was a reasonable 3rd person shooter, by far the weakest of the bunch.
Oh, that's called Mother Alien... We called it The Witch. But, in my oppinion, the most disturbing boss in Hard Corps was That-Ugly-Thing-From-The-Rocket. And, btw, when you fight Zeed in Shinobi III, you have the very same Giygas effect.
Uncharted is a poster boy for the fuck-awful 'covid compositing' whereby two people who are having a chat, in a room, ARE CGI'd INTO THE SCENE ... ... SEPARATELY!
As much as I love the DOA movie, by far the worst part of it is how Ryu Hyabusa gets characterized as a meh side character.
I'd say Marky Mark as Sully was even worse, he totally failed to capture the suave and clever legend of a man that is Victor Sullivan.
I really liked the new Res Evil movie. It had it's problems but for it's budget it was great.
Only real problem I had was how they character-assassinated poor Leon. Stupid choice, I hope whoever wrote that bit got covered in cheese and left out in the sun for a few hours.
@@megatronjenkins2473 Yeah there a few silly things like that which weren't great, but they nailed the aesthetic, most characters were well cast and there was a good mix of humour too. It shat all over the original bunch of films. Just a shame they made Leon such a dope. I think the main problem with the film was they crammed to much in, so it was like an extended trailer! But what was there was great!
@@perchance5066 well, considering the original films were shtako in and of themselves....
Why the hell did they do a young nate??? We’ve had young nate in uncharted 3, uncharted 4, and arguably uncharted 1, we didn’t need young drake we needed Nathan fillion his short film is better than the whole uncharted movie
Two of the dirtiest words in cinema history: Uwe Boll.
Apparently someone is too young to know or remember the original Pokemon movie with mew and Mewtwo. At the end Mewtwo changed heart and becomes good after realizing Pikachu would die for Ash and vice versa....
Detective Pikachu is not a sequel to any of the other Pokemon movies. It's a brand new universe. And Mewtwo should have been a villain, at least at first, and maybe become good eventually.
@@rattis I found nothing wrong with it, though. At least in the games, Mewtwo isn't really antagonistic and just exists and tries to defend itself. The movie isn't an adaptation of the anime, which is where Mewtwo was more of a villain.
Tinder? I own that
Mark Wahlberg would have made a better Nathan Drake and Bruce Campbell would have been perfect for Sully.
DECEPTICONS, LET THE DOWNVOTING COMMENCE!!
Also Tom Holland looks not nearly a good Nathan Drake
Yeah… to Holland just isn’t Nathan Drake (too young looking)
I think with uncharted they were going for what happened before the first game when Nathan Drake was not as experienced as he was in the first game
Hitman was awesome
There were two Hitman movies
Monster hunter and welcome to racoon city. Sucked too.
6:50 Seriously, you go after Nathan when Holland did a pretty good job with what he was given, and Marky Mark playing - I don't know who that was but it sure as heck wasn't Sully was right there? Nathan was at least recognizable it this. But that sure as heck was not Sully.
In uncharted it is supposed to be his first expedition and takes place before he got a taste for treasure hunting
I don't care what you say, the Uncharted movie was great. I absolutely loved it.

That Max Payne movie misfire still hurts. It's payne-ful. I'm vlad they didn't make a sequel.

The number 1 entry Sindel is supposed to be pronounced as if it rhymed with Bell.
Also, unfortunately Mortal Kombat 11 removed the positive characterization of Sindel that was in the previous games.
"Too bad YOU....... will mispronounce my name!"
The first pokemon movie did make mewtwo the villain, but in every other appearance of it, it's been shown to be a peaceful pokemon that just avoids humans because they might use pokemon for evil.
I feel that entry was kind of rushed. Also mewtwo wasn't created by the antagonist in detective pikachu, he was just being experimented on after they captured him a few years before. I do feel for the script writers for shows that have to go out daily, but the wiki for the character is right there.
yeah ive never seen the detective pikachu movie but mewtwo is probably one of the most sympathetic characters in pokemon. he's not remotely intended to be an antagonist. as you can imagine i'm writing this having gotten three minutes into the videk
It was a bit odd to see Mewtwo in the detective Pikachu film considering it’s an alternate world than the Pokémon we’re used to.
Mewtwo was brought about because Giovanni wanted the “Worlds most powerful Pokémon”. If Giovanni does not exist in this world, how can Mewtwo?
@@ProfessorVince I'm sure team rocket existed just not in the region you see
@@ProfessorVince Mewtwo is in the Detective Pikachu game on 3DS which is what the film is based on.
The problem is with most movies based on games is that the film makers seem to think they need to rewrite it all, where if they just followed the writing from the games, they would have some fantastic movies and characters
Exactly the same with comic movies
Never going to unhear "Sindle"
lmao whoever wrote the part about Mewtwo has never watched any sort of film (animated or otherwise) one of them stars in or even read a wiki entry. Not only is the Detective Pikachu film a completely different continuity from the anime which is a different continuity from the games, Mewtwo has also almost consistently portrayed as less evil and more antagonistic in the way of being violent and untrusting due to the circumstances around it. Hell, the Mewtwo from the first anime movie put itself into anti-hero territory by the Mewtwo Returns OVA and the one from the Genesect movie (a wholly different Mewtwo, mind you) was clearly heroic. None of these three Mewtwo -- first movie, Genesect movie, Detective Pikachu -- are the same individual and thus don't have to have the same characterisation. Because that would be *boring*.
Leon Kennedy in welcome to racoon city was an absolute travesty. Ive no idea why someone thought making him a complete wally who was as much use as rubber lips on a woodpecker was the way forward. But then the rest of the movie wasnt any better, utter arse gravy
Funny I just commented the exact same thing right above you. They turned him into a cuckold boy and I found it kind of disgusting how wiki was. He might be a rookie but he's strong as hell at heart.
Sounds like the usual hollywood way of deconstructing previous heroes into useless bums.
and the actor they cast looks more like he should be playing Carlos than Leon
Uwe Boll is probs somewhere on this list. Or is the whole list.
List idea:
10 times Uwe Boll Uwe Boll'd all over something that needed no Uwe Boll at all.
I’m not gonna lie DOA was perfect action shlock. As a huge Leon fan I felt they developed the Leon I love by the end.
The first two thirds of it is a genuine guilty pleasure for me. Then the plot kicks in...
@@H0lyMoley there's a plot?!?🤣🤣🤣
I legit love that movie
Mewtwo isn't a villain, but a tragic antagonist.
More nowadays, the Antihero.
the mewtwo is the same mewtwo from tbe first movie, so yes hes supposed to be good
I’m not sure who butchered Sindel’s character more, Annihilation or MK 11 Aftermath
I would go with MK 11. Yep, Sindel in the movie sucked hard, but there, we didn't have that much of backstory or something. On the other hand, in MK 11, we did had a lot of baggage, and what they did? "Oh, she dressed sexy, so she's evil". Kinda sexist if you ask me
I saw Uncharted in theater and it was for sure jarring to see Nate without experience and confidence, Chloe not being the badass we see in the games. Sully is pretty much Sully but younger, no mustache and with a Marky Mark flavor. But on second viewing, without the expectations of the characters being 1:1, it's really enjoyable, and you can actually believe the Nate you see at like 31 in Uncharted 1 comes from that Nate at 23-24.
I absolutely agree with this take. I got my ticket as part of the PS5 upgrade of Uncharted 4, and if Sony was giving away a bunch of tickets to their movie how good could it actually be? As they say, set the bar low and you’ll never be disappointed.
Turns out, it was pretty damn good. Even though the characters weren’t accurate to their looks in the games, their mannerisms were spot on and let me see the actors as the characters and not just “The wacky adventures of Tom Holland and Marky Mark”
I hated Sully, personally. It just look like Marky mark playing himself. It didnt look like the Sully from the games to me
Honestly the Uncharted movie wasn't too bad imo but granted, I had to disconnect my memory of the games to watch it; otherwise I'd be like, "That's not how it happened in the games." Every 5 minutes.
In the end without lining it up with the games, it's just a fun action adventure film. But that's just my opinion.
Yup, it’s a movie interpretation of Uncharted, not “Uncharted The Game: The Movie” in the way Harry Potter or LotR were. Holds up quite well when judged on its own merits
It's not a video game, but can we all agree that whoever put Dragonball Evolution on the silver screen didn't know a damn thing about the source material?
Totally agree! The screenwriter even came out and apologized for what happened with DB Evolution, saying that he went into it treating it as an assignment and payday, without having any real passion for the actual franchise itself.
@@MichaelRayzzorStarks Not only that, Toriyama himself offered input on the project and was rejected. It was a blatant cash grab with no respect for the franchise and didn't even want input from the man who created the franchise.
@@zeroattentiongaming820 Toriyama would likely have got his own creation wrong since he forgot many characters existed. Lunch having feelings for Tenshinhan and getting immediately ignored. Chou-tzu, Oolong, and Puar.
@@dansmith1661 Toriyama has dropped the ball from time to time but nothing he's ever done even approaches the utter garbage that was Evolution. Toriyama at his laziest and most forgetful is still infinitely better than that trash fire.
Also see Super Broly for proof Toriyama can still make pure gold when he's really invested. Turned Broly of all characters into one of the most sympathetic characters in the franchise while retaining his usual insanely over the top power and rage. Without the stupid crying Goku PTSD at that.
I don't really mind Tom Holland that mich, he could pass as young Nathan, but damn Mark Wahlberg has none of Sully's charisma.
Uncharted movie was horrible, idk y people like Tom Holland he just makes the same constant surprise confused face the whole time
What silent hill 1 was brilliant especially the pyramid head
Wait... when was mewtwo ever villain even in the first movie he’s barely a villain and in all the games he’s just trying to escape and comes back to help in Pokémon tekken and other spins off... odd but okay? Rest lost pretty legit
What? Mewtwo is not one of the biggest villains of the pokemon world. He,s been a good guy a lot more often.Take Mewtwo strikes back for instance, he fought against team rocket
If you think Leon is bad in RE:WTRC, then just you wait until you see the Netflix show of RE....!
It did better as a game series, the new gen chose a movie direction this gen always seems to go for the movie direction, like no stop.
No one ever remembers the 2007 Hitman movie which, I'll be the first to admit, was pretty bad but did a better job of it in spite of having a 50% smaller budget. Honestly, it's one of the better 'video game to movie' translations I've seen and one of the few where it's heart seemed to be in the right place.
I mean, you butchered Sindel’s name so….
#9: I think it's implied that the Mewtwo of that film already went through a similar arc as the one in the first movie, and may in fact be the same Mewtwo.
That makes a lot of sense.
DOA the story sets and casting (besides kev nash playing a character based on hulk hogen) where all pritty good but the movie and characters were not right at all and felt like an Uwe Boll movie despite him having nothing to do with it
Agent 47 is made even worse when they got the character right the first time with Olyphant! Still drives me nuts that didn't get a direct sequel
Honestly, Welcome to Raccoon City's most glaring sin (other than how they did my boy Leon's personality) was how boring it was. Otherwise, it would have been great fan service fun. Still bummed about it, honestly.
Agent 47 was better than the first movie incarnation, no disrespect to Timothy Olyphant, but that was a major miscasting. Plus, Rupert Friend was, and to me still is, unknown to me, so made for a perfect anonymous assassin. I know he's done other stuff, but whatever.
Both movies are equally bad for different reasons. But at least Olyphant looks more like 47. Friend wasn't actually bald and has a bizarre pointy head.
"Mother...you're alive."
"Too bad YOU...will die."
Magnificently horrible line delivery and I love it.
Mark Wahlberg was not a proper Max Payne. They should have gotten a more gruff actor to play him. Pyramid Head does look intimidating. Bloodrayne sucked. Far Cry and Postal have adaptations O_o? Bison looked too scrawny. OF COURSE! Nathan Drake looked way too young for the role. I thought you would mention Mark Wahlberg in that movie instead. He should of had a mustache at the start of the movie. 9:24 I consider this movie so bad that it's good. I thought the rottentomato score was worse to be honest. Doesn't Leon have different hair than that?
The only good thing that came from Mortal Kombat Annihilation was the soundtrack. Half of which was used in the first half of the movie with the songs changing so quickly you'd miss them if you weren't familiar with the soundtrack, and the rest of the songs were used during the credits.
You wouldn't cast Neil McDonough as a tyrannical dictator? I wouldn't cast him as M. Bison specifically, but I think his turn as Damien Darkh shows he can do "utter fucking psychopath" pretty well
I understand why Tom Holland was Drake (everyone I saw it with, went to see him) but my god Mark Wahlberg was so perfect for Drake and JK Simmons should've been Sully!!!
I kid you not, Koopa was supposed to be their Donald Trump.
«…cast a non-Irish actor (Neal McDonough) for the role»…
Americans: «What do you mean 'non-Irish', I don't understand, he's clearly Irish»!
So this means Mortal Kombat Aftermath isn't the only time Sindel got screwed.
I swear every time someone says “bros” for brothers, it’s like the writer is saying “I know it’s brothers, I’m just doing this to trigger you, D.” 😅
I haven't even watched uncharted film and I just know it is trash.
Terrible casting choices for Drake and sully
The older Mortal Kombat movies were still better than the new one that didnt even have a tournament in it.
No I'm taking the shot it should have been Mark Walberg not that Spiderman guy
Walberg is one of the worst actors I've ever seen in my life...oh and tom Holland
The only good street fighter movie was Street Fighter the animated movie
Mew is better than Mewtwo.
Don’t prove me wrong because you can’t.
Stop, dissing, my, average, potato!!!
As A Sindel fan that horrible mess of a movie offended me.
sindel? okay, what about raiden??
James SUTHERLAND?!
How did I forget about Dynohatten?!
Dragonball evolution??
Still better than MK11 Sindel
Ooof.
The Uncharted movie being awful makes no sense. The blueprint to make the movie was literally the game itself.
which also suck so they did copy the blue print
It's "brothers" not "bros." Talk about not understanding characters.
Super Mario Brothers
👽
You got Nathan drakes character wronged by Uncharted 2 to 4 he wants treasure and fortune but he deeply cares about his friends and family so much that he risks his life to save his brother and save Chloe and save Elena you of all poeple should get characterization right even at the end of uncharted 1 he leaves the treasure to save Elena so get your facts right next time you'll be misleading poeple
Michael Madsen tried his best in Bloodrayne?! Yeah, I gotta disagree on that. He even looked bored out of his mind when he got killed. Kingsley looked like he was dead, so well ... Ok, technically vampires are dead, so at least he nailed that. 😅
Having watched the Bloodrayne movie a few times for shits and giggles, I might say that Michael Madsen did NOT "do his best" with the script.
And I'm so glad Raul Julia's incredibly camp performance as M. Bison is finally getting the love it deserves after so many self-serious reviewers wrote it off.
I always thought they went more Geese Howard with Bison in Legend of Chun-Li. Maybe they should’ve just adapted Fatal Fury instead.
All movies and TV shows based on video games are trash. You're welcome.
They got every single character in uncharted wrong
I did enjoy the Uncharted movie, but the casting was whacked out.
ironically, Walburg looked more the part of Drake, the whole cast seemed just 10 years too young.
I guess they were trying to set it as a prequel to the games, hence Drake being less keen on adventures.
And the bar tender stuff?? I wonder if they got confused with ACs Desmond Miles?
Ms. Matthews!
I hope everyone at TTJ is doing okay.
Busy binge watching your channel. Love it!
The thing is...Detective Pikachu is heavily (to not say completely) inspired in the anime series/movies. Not the videogames. And in Pokemon´s first movie, Mewtwo IS the villain. And that movie is basically his most famous and remembered appeareance.
it's not inspired to world in the movie is the exact same world as the anime
Well, Detective Pikachu is it's entirely seperate world anyway so it really doesn't matter.
no it's not it takes place in the same world as the Anime
Fillion should have gotten the drake role and ray liota should have got
Max Payne
I thought the mewtwo in detective pikachu was the same one as the pokemon movie, I.e. he had already discovered some people were good and decided to live in isolation. I assumed he had been captured by the villains of dp, rather than created by them. Been a while since I watched the film though.
You just complained about the portrayal of Mewtwo in the movie Detective Picachu.
That sentence pretty much sums up why people don't take gaming seriously.
