I have been in the Daytona Beach area almost 50 years and I have witnessed the ocean gradually taking back the land. Every storm just chips away a little bit more. All my friends that were raised here say there was more sand on the beach back in their day and if you look at the old photos posted online you can see the difference.
I've heard the same thing from so many people "used to be much more sand" ...and dunes! You know where we live, and its part of life. Check out my 2nd video posted today to see the seawall ripped of of my condo building...that one's gonna sting. Property can be fixed and replaced. Condolences to those who lost more. Thanks for commenting.
You’re right, the beach used to be much wider. We’ve noticed that over the 50 years of visiting the Daytona area. Some people say it’s from sea levels rising.
Thank you so much for posting this, I have been so worried about that area; our fam has been going there for vacations for 50+ years. Thank you for your excellent footage.
My pleasure! I love the pier and restaurant, but I'm sure that they'll build it back even better than now. I love the staff there and really feel for them as they're out of work for the time being.
@@Floroseven We also love Crabby Joe’s and have many nice memories of meals there with our kids. It’s just so strange seeing it like this since I was just there last week. What a devastating storm.
SO BEAUTIFUL TO SEE THE OCEAN RECOVERING HER SPACE ❤ BEFORE THE "DEVELOPMENT" ALL THAT COAST WAS A BEAUTIFUL FOREST OF MANGLAR THAT RETAINED FIRMLY ALL THE TERRAIN AND AVOID EROSION.
I have absolutely no words to describe how shocked I am to see this. Not even two months ago; August 19th I was standing on that back half of the pier videoing a SpaceX launch.
Great footage Adam! That drone is something else. I'm actually impressed that Joe's didn't get decimated based on the other footage you shot of the multiple condos who lost significant portions of their seawall. Be cool if you could shoot the oceans 5 area, I use to vacation there a lot, still stay in contact with some of the residents. If you do shoot that area send me your ca$h app and I'll send you some funds ✌️😎
Hi Seecipher! I shoot for fun and comments like these, not necessarily $$, but I appreciate that. I trust you know the pier, so recognize that everything beyond the "dining room" is gone (the retail shop and fishing pier). The oceans are right up the street, so I'll actually do drone and "bike on the sand" of that area early next week. I didn't name the condos I was at because I own there and we don't need any negative stigma (real estate/value/etc), but you can easily figure out where I was at. Check out a couple of videos of mine, 360 video on Daytona Beach and you can see the entire area from the ground before the storm. Thanks for the like and I'll be happy to keep shooting and sharing!
I’ve had some good times fishing at this pier, it was a good spot for Flounders and Black Drum. Going to miss this pier and the staff that worked there, sucks that they have to go through losing work.
Hey Adam - nice to meet you yesterday while you shot this. Great talking with you. Keep up your great work! Sad to see this iconic place in its current condition, but hope Crabby Joe's rebuilds. Nice video. - JT
So many memories, my wife and I saw this and just welled up. Breakfast at craby Joe's ,our kids , grandkids for years enjoyed the Mickey mouse pancakes and the country breakfast. I sure hope our donation helps. We live in north west fla. Maybe if God can see to it maybe our children, grandchildren can get together for a reunion, stay at south point condos and go to grabby Joe's for breakfast and north turn for lunch or dinner. We miss it all. May God bless everyone. Hope to see you there.
Glad you enjoyed it. Please see the update that I JUST published. I'm guessing that the pier will open in the next 3 months based upon everything in this video.
what a great xmas gift. New video is up. Where you staying? I can check it out (with video) this weekend if you're curious. Pier vide went up an hour ago.@@michaelleonardis1540
@@Floroseven I live in gilcrest county , that's due west of Daytona, however I believe the Ocala national forest is in the way from a straight shot . I'll have to look it up for the best route.
the staff that grinded it out there after the Pandemic were SOOO good and dedicated. I always overtip that place because I know a lot of young people don't want to work. SO sad its gone.
It's amazing it's still there at all, I live down the street in Ormond by the sea and the winds were amazing, couldn't walk outside for 3 days. We didn't even know it was coming our way till the day before so I couldn't even put boards on the windows, it was crazy.
I used to work there ..I'm sorry for everyone, but it looks like the main restaurant is ok ... just fishing off the pier will have to wait awhile I guess.
@@Floroseven You shared your home with the viewers. So sad for you. Sounds as if there is a battle now. The insurance company is always happy to collect your payment. But gets very nitpicky about the sand and the seawall........? Despite all that, Everybody is grateful that you guys are okay.
They will collect insurance $. Re design while waiting for the claim to be processed, get paid and rebuild. They will Post pictures of Ian destruction though out the the newly designed property and pick up where they left off.
Yo Todd! The area was hit really hard by the Pandemic, and I'm not so sure how much insurance people have. This particular pier is private, which complicates things. Small business, great dedicated staff at the restaurant and you can pay $5 a day to fish their pier/tackle. I used to visit their weekly...sad its gone :(

I love that pier...hope to see you fishing with us in FL again soon!

Looking forward to seeing you rebuild!
me too!
You all got to be fucking kidding me re build what, tear that shit hole completely down...
What a shame! I feel awful for the owners and employees. I hope the owners have good insurance. I have always loved eating here.

It is sad, but definitely repairable. Sunglow Pier/Crabby Joe's will not go down!👍🏻🤝💪
Incredible how high that tide went up on Saturday.
check out my videos from yesterday updating these...tide is now on the walls...scary.

do you know where the staff will be going? I support them and perhaps a fund for those out of work could help.
They have 3 restaurants crabbys, funky pelican and 1 other one but idk yet my mom hasn’t gotten a update yet
Funky pelican and crabby joes is done for rn but idk

My wife and son and in-laws vacationed there every year from 2006 to 2010. Caught many of mangrove snapper off that pier when they ran.

DJI mini2 or Mavic 3.. (I have both)....forgot which one here.
