    I've been wanting to do some duck/ goose hunting for years, even have collected most of the gear... and this year I found a guy with lots of experience willing to take me out, he even has access to some prime private land :) I can't wait!

      I was gonna post that some comment...I hate it when guys say "I got that one!"...But when you have a 5 bird limit and 4 guns going off, I guess you gotta keep track of who shot what...We some times take turns when it's thick with birds, even keep tally on birds taken per shots fired....That way you can see who really whiffs (Spoiler alert...It's usually the "I shot that one" guy...)

    Been hunting out of grass covered A-Frames in the middle of open fields, golf courses, banks of rivers, and I have been shocked at how well they work! We stuck one in a cut bean field and the birds didn't take notice. Nice work!

  • @DSonneborn

    I’m so envious of these field hunts, we just don’t have those opportunities, it’s either flooded rice, or flooded marshes. But if you don’t have water your kinda SOL for ducks. You can get the geese in a dry corn or rice field here though.

    I don’t like to hunt with groups larger than 3 because of the “I shot that one’s.” Especially if it’s a nice bird or it’s banded. Why I normally only hunt solo or with 1 other person

      Dylan Miller it’s makes you sound like a greedy hunter and it’s really just bad sportsmanship in the duck world lol. Now if you for sure killed it and other people saw you do it then it’s okay to be like “hey guys I killed this one”

    if you are struggling to cover the area directly above the blind. use willows or trees that fan out and cover a good area. it really helps. then leave the grass on the bottom still.

    Never understand the "shouldering the gun wrong" until I got a new semiauto about a month ago. I couldnt hit nothing and I was wondering why. Shooting at paper targets pulling up fast and shooting at it like a fast incoming duck, I realized I had to practice, now I'm good! Really makes a difference knowing where ur at!

  • @teekay1785
    @teekay1785 5 лет назад

    have used a frames in middle large fields for years has always worked pretty well on ducks not quite as well on geese. What few may not work you may make up with better shooting on larger flocks than shooting from a layout or if you are older or physically challenged.

    Congratulations, hunt was Awesome. It's hard to watch this because we can only shoot 2 Mallards in NY 🤔. They say the Mallard population is down in NY 🤔. But if I drive 2 hrs north to Ontario Canada I can shoot 6! Same Flyway 🤔🤔. We have had some awesome field Mallard hunting, love it!! Thanks for sharing.

    do you ever eat the legs? you should try them. marinate a day or two then cook low in the crock pot for 12 hours; its gold. I slow cook my goose legs and grill my duck legs. I haven't tried slow cooking duck legs yet but im sure they would be good too.

    Dude seriously you have such good hunts it’s amazing to watch. I would love to set up here in a cornfield but in Northern California the farmers don’t really let people hunt there land unless you pay for a blind which is super expensive. So I am just living out my dreams of killing so many green heads and honkers through your videos lmao. What is crazy to me is that you guys are stoked on getting a Widgeon. I shoot Widgeon and pintail pretty much every time I go hunting but the Mallards are few and far between. I hardly see more than a pair of mallards flying together seriously it’s rare to see big groups. Anyway love these videos. I’m actually re-watching you videos getting pumped for opening day at the end out October!

    Oh man brother. I know you’ve seen my comment before, but keep the skin/fat on those breasts. It’s waaaay better. I’ve been letting them sit in water for a couple days in the fridge to drain the blood and then marinading them in olive oil and Monterey steak seasoning from mccormicks. It’s my absolute favorite way to cook them now. I threw a mallard and a teal on the grill on New Years, the olive oil makes it go up in flames and Sears the outside pretty good. I like mine a medium rare and it tastes just like a filet mignot.

      we don't really but its beneficial to duck population not to kill the females but its also kinda a status symbol type thing to only kill males and they are generally more colorful and you are automatically more likely to focus on male because of that.
