    If Rooney takes the role serious, learning from his mistakes, and puts 110% in (as it has been reported in the past that his punctuality has been lax in his previous role, sometimes not even turning up for training at times), and also works hard to help bring bigger investment into the club then we may stand a chance with him at the helm. Our budget is well known to be small compared to other clubs in the championship. Simon Hallet has done us proud, as his investment in crucial signings has allowed Argyle to grow, with Home Park developing nicely. It will be interesting to see, when the next window opens, who we can attract to the club to fill the gaps that are lacking in our squad at present. Who knows, it is a throw of the dice. Has Neil and the rest of the board got this appointment right? Is this what Argyle really needs at the moment?, we shall see. C'mon Rooney, prove us wrong, then Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer will have you on the show lol. Your reply to them on the side lines of the FA Cup Final when Gary Lineker jested with you about it was...Quote: 'See you next year'. Hope you are right. COYG's

      I really hope Plymouth do well, as I see a few parallels to my club. Rooney is a gamble, that is no doubt. He's got a pre-season and transfer window here though, which will leave him with no excuse. For your sake, I really hope he brings Phelan with him too. I think that makes the difference! 👍

    As an Argyle fan that was an excellent assessment. 99% of us are very anti the Rooney deal but we'll support it and we'll back him and the Club. There's also rumours of big investors coming on board so who knows, we could have a very interesting season ahead!

    I`ve changed my mind....my first reaction was `oh no`...what a desperate appointment! But after looking at the `other` aspects of investment and recruitment possibilities I`m starting to think this could be a shrewd move by the club. Wayne Rooney is passionate about football, and he`s obviously determined to be a fully fledged coach, fair play to his spirit. There is a possibilty that this could be a disaster, but it could also gel like a dream...he`s made his mistakes in his managerial career, probably some man management faults...but, I think he`s so desperate to succeed that he will be mature and accepting enough to be advised better by his back room staff and improve in all areas. Argyle have ambition, and I expect them to now work with WR to recruit a strong enough side to stay in the Champ for next season. Lets give him a go.

    • @HonestFootballPodcast
      @HonestFootballPodcast  3 месяца назад

      It could go either way as you say, but he's got a real crack at it here. Transfer window, pre season, freedom to add staff. If he fails, I doubt he'd get another chance at this level again. 👍

    Forget the football side as the players were not good enough at birmingham. Look deeper for a person who has no respect for any club or person. Not being at training and unable to communicate to the players and rumours on his lifestyle. Three years is a big gamble that will cost you

    • @HonestFootballPodcast
      @HonestFootballPodcast  3 месяца назад

      The off pitch rumours are definitely a worry, which is why I also think it's so important he gets Mike Phelan in as no.2. It's a make or break job for him now, so if he wastes this chance he'll deserve no sympathy.

  • @simonmayer8800

    Really got no problem with Dewsnip recruiting from his network, but he needs to be accountable for how things unfold. I remember Sturrock bringing in a bus-load of players he knew from Scotland, in his first spell, and he rightly earned the plaudits.
    Lowe and Schumacher weren't bad choices, but ultimately they're young managers who were given opportunities to progress their careers.
    On balance, our scouse managers have brought more good times than bad, so far.

    • @HonestFootballPodcast
      @HonestFootballPodcast  3 месяца назад

      It'll be interesting but as you say, eventually that pool of managers in his network will get worse and worse. In fairness, it looks like Rosenior was offered it first, so that would have been a departure somewhat! 👍

      You'd argue that would have been the case whoever they'd appointed. It's well reported that Rosenior was offered the job first, which would have been an exceptional appointment. I'm really intrigued to see how this pans out!

  • @donaldmartell3729
    @donaldmartell3729 4 месяца назад +4

    Hiring a manager with a 26% win rate is shameful and stupid, especially after Ian Foster. Neil Dewsnip needs to go if this doesn't work out - the last 4 managers have just been his scouser friends. We got lucky with Lowe and Schumacher.
    I hate this appointment but there's nothing I can do other than get behind Rooney. He has the best chance to succeed with a full off-season and staff with him, something Foster didn't.

    • @HonestFootballPodcast
      @HonestFootballPodcast  3 месяца назад +1

      This is the glimmer of hope, he has both a full summer transfer window and pre-season for the first time as a manager in England. If he can't succeed here, I think that's curtains for him.👎

  • @drmccoy33

    Let's be honest the only requirement to be a manager at Plymouth is if you are from the Liverpool area as demonstrated by the last 3 managers and now Rooney. Dewsnip just hiring friends essentially and not the best candidates. I guess eventually you may hit one successful candidate like this but i wont take that bet.

    • @HonestFootballPodcast

    We should have looked at Ian Evatt, Nigel Adkins, Pete Wild or Andy Whing. All far better managers than Mr Rooney.
    We will struggle or be relegated ive watched since 1970 not next season and he's been given a 3 year contract.
    He's not moving down either a real disaster for Argyle.
