Shows how good of a person you are when your just as happy taking someone else to kill a buck when you haven’t killed many yourself
The biggest thing is focusing on taking mature bucks (5 1/2 years old or so). Deer don’t necessarily get bigger racks every year and usually peak around 5 or 6. If it’s a 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 year old buck you might as well take it now because it’s unlikely to get much bigger and it will eventually start to shrink.
After 5 there’s a 50/50 chance they will get bigger or smaller
whitetail antler growth reaches full potential at 7-7.5 years old but only if nutrition and safety needs are met year round

It’s not deer management shooting good looking 3.5 year olds 😂 we only shoot mature deer 5.5+ now that managing whitetail. That deer could have been a big deer. Could understand if he was like a 4.5 year 8 then yes shoot him because you want bigger then 8 points for breeding. But this deer as a 3.5 would be a stud in acouple years. But they don’t know much about deer hunting or management yet and that was dude first so I understood but this isn’t management at all.

Those are the types of wood patches you need ladder stands in for bow season. Those little draws are perfect. And that rub is huge in the background. Definitely look into that this summer for stand locations.

That deer is only a 3.5 year old! If that get had 2 more year he would have been a really good one. When you have neighbors that wanna shoot bigs and can manage them to get good good bucks gotta shoot them at 5.5-6.5 and then we are talking about bigs. This one is nice but he is still a baby literally his fist at year of breeding and that’s if another older mature buck doesn’t run him off first. Most bucks aren’t lucky enough to breed until 4.5 and that’s only because they can hold there own or if they are younger then 4.5 it’s because way to many doe’s in the area and not enough bucks

@@johnsalazar245 I would use a 6.5 with a 142gr match hornady round! If he was planning to do some long range shooting. I normally elk hunt with a custom 300mag when I travel out west. That semi 30-06 is junk 😂 I own the same gun they jam up a lot! What would you use. I have a precision sig cross 6.5 and I love it. I’ve had it out to 1000 yards no problem.

shot placement looked like my first deer, im from denmark so we hunt roedeer that are smaller, and it were an old fawn so it fell on the spot when it catched a 30-06. still the craziest experience, my dad went to the other side to scare them over to me, and there i stood alone having to pick out a deer for te first time, having to pick the right one, make sure it was clear to shoot and i didnt fire in my dads general area. and also had to decide if it were inside my capability to hit. placed a bullet at 105m and when i walked up to it breathed out for the last time. that were special. very special

Happy for banjos deer. For management the bigger deer prior to the one that was shot was a good target buck. The buck banjo shot very likely would’ve blown up and became something similar to the prior deer. All that aside, congrats Austin. Great harvest and flair my opinion really doesn’t matter. You manage you’re way you please and we will enjoy the content.

There is a flip side to that coin as well. Old bucks don't always produce. Their seed doesn't always swim. You don't want a monster shooting blanks and chasing off the others that'll produce. Banjos buck is perfect.

Flair - look at maybe getting or making a deer cart. It's basically a folding stretcher with mountain bike wheels. Makes hauling them out a LOT easier. That or pole carry it.
In my state we can only hunt on private land and over 40 acres, with the owners pernission. On the plus side there's no season or limits as deer are a pest.

If you think that’s was a far drag out you haven’t seen far dragging. where I hunt in eastern Ontario, 2 bucks we got this year we’re 1/2 mile drags and 1, was a full mile drag! It’s an experience
