*UPDATE:* It's been over a year since this infantry tournament series. There have been several changes to game mechanics, troop equipment, AI etc, which is why I'll be making an updated infantry tournament after Bannerlord's supposed "full-release" on October 25th.
I love how this really puts into perspective how you're suppose to use your different Infantry types. Shield for shielding and two handers for killing.
Damn, it's impossible! I'm very suprised by such a good result. I mean, in the actual game they die too often... Maybe it's because even while being strong in hand-to-hand combat, they are also extremely vulnerable to every kind of missile. In the practice, azerai axemen show much higher survival rate (thank to better armor, I think).
you can make 2 separate infantry formation if you want to use voulgier, 50-75% of shielded troops to bait missiles then use advance instead of charge so they stay in formation, then let the voulgier charge after they make contact, i always use new troops and playstyle in every playthrough, it's fun not using OP units over and over again especially when you're playing vs AI.
I know these videos must be a ton of work, but would you ever consider making a Vladian Sharpshooter vs all T5 infantry? Of course, they would be order to not fire their crossbows, just straight old melee skirmishing...
@@Mr.Chicken Yep, I imagined that. TBH, I think even pikemen have a chance. Still.... If you make then shield wall and when they come in contact just charge them, maybe, they can do some damage.
love the series, my good sir. Did you use mods to set up the battles? when I go into custom battles there has to be a commander and the units are selected automatically
This really surprised me. You don't really hear their praises too much so I didn't realize they were this good. I totally missed which group they lost to. I would have thought it was the Legionary but I think they beat them.
Great tests. Good idea is to check combinations of units. Half legioners (coz shields) half 2-handed : how would they do. It's really hard to gess from this point and there are arguments to why any of them might do well.
@@merutay9303 They are good for sieges. A shield is a necessity to get up and clear the ramparts in one piece when there's a lot of arrow fire and weapons hacking at you. These battle sims are open field only infantry, if you take a look at the RUclipsrs tier list he places legionnaires at the highest tier by themselves since they're so well rounded in sieges and open battles despite losing to two handers in the videos.
@@merutay9303 There are no ultimate infantry that could be best in any situation in Bannerlord. And of course, shield infantry more universal then polearm infantry because of archers and missile weapons.
These 2 handed infantry are devastating in sieges, both attacks and defenses. The game cant handle someone using the shield and weapon at the same time. Where these troops suck at is charging archers. But in sieges you have very few archers shooting at massive numbers of your troops, so usually the benefits of having better infantry outweighs the drawbacks of not having shields and taking some losses
because AI for units with long weapons is broken, soldiers cannot hold distance between each other. Look at battanian veteran falxmen, they are useless in 1.8
Agree with this, the point of shield units are to be the Frontline since they can block missiles while the shock or rather two handed armed men are for doing the actual killing of people (just look at how dominating they are in these match ups)

Your tests just proved so much unit analysis wrong. Keep up the good work!!
Strongest Falxoboo vs. Strongest Voulgoboo vs. Weakest Heroic-Line-Breaker-aboo
Good unit. Only lost to Flaxman who have superior range.

And it's sad to know, because in life I am a big fan of voulges and halberds :D

Pretty sure they would lose against all t5 infantry except for the hired blade and vlandian pikeman, as their armor is very weak.

Lost against falxmen
swingable polearms are insanely overturned, I'd suggest trying em yourself
How I love your videos! Thank you!
Did you order Sturgian Heavy Axe men to hold fire?
Going to pair them with sea raiders and a splash of cav.

Vlandian are so good in all the field
Love your stuff. Some inf v cav would be intresting
So i suppose if we take into acc the javelins then the legionary is the best?
Legionaries have pilas, but basically yes. However, in actual play, two handed infantry will be hidden behind shield infantry.
According to my tests, idk why, in 1.7.2 Falxmen lose to Voulgiers most of the times.
Man it really sucks taleworlds all but removed customizable unit grouping...
Yeah that really frustrated me, I loved that bit of the setup
Is it 1.6.0?
Well done! Keep it up!))
1.5.10, don't think the beta has any updates that changes troops
Khan guard ?
They have two handed swords but don't use them? Useless weight?
They never use them in my experience, maybe they use them in sieges in tight spaces but not sure if Taleworlds actually made that a mechanic
How do these units do in sieges?
I love this game. Brits forever!
You know there is no point of that most of unit are good with some or other formation it's strategie game not kind of rumble
I thought shields are strong.
Against archers. They do absolutely nothing against slashing polearms or axes.
@@PendlayRoe yeah but I thought shield infantry is good for siege etc. apparently Im wrong

its not like this anymore... they never beat legionaries anymore

Given them space… they are great and one of the best infantry
you should sheld vs sheld, non sheld vs non sheld
