    Up until a few months ago I was a vegan for over five years. Two days ago I signed up for this thing called the One-Stop Program which means you take a firearms course and then a hunting course back-to-back to get both licenses need to go hunting. (I'm from Canada.) Steve and his show are one of the contributing factors to this. I'm super excited and can't wait to get out there.
    Thank you Steve!

    Simple example of what they're talking about regarding ghost ancestry. Suppose a gene is governed by mendelian inheritance rules (the Punnett squares from high school biology class). Suppose Africans have type AA and Europeans have type aa. It's now possible to have an african grandparent with no trace of that fact on this gene.
    M AA x F aa => M Aa
    M aa x F aa => F aa
    In the breeding "M Aa x F aa", the outcome of "aa" will occur half the time.
    Take this principle, spread it throughout the genome, and now you have the thing Steven is talking about where ancestors don't show up.

      david collins Rogan likes to go on hunts, but I wouldn’t say he is anywhere close to Rinella or cam Hanes...that discussion Rogan had with the bow guy(name slips my mind) solidified my opinion on Rogan and hunting. To each their own, but Rogan is just a rich guy who pays to play. All the expensive bows and gear, and hanging with pro hunters does not make him a hunter. I get that he is trying to get into it, and that’s fine, but he has it easy, to say the least. I said before, if Rogan could go buy some land somewhere, scout that land, maybe plant some crops, hunt his animal of choice ALONE, and do that for a couple years, I’d be impressed. Anybody can pay to hunt. Can you do all the things that rinella and company do, without instructions on how to do it?
      I’m a fan of Rogan, and I don’t mean to be a curmudgeon, but he just doesn’t “get it.” If that makes sense. He says all the right things, but I wouldn’t take joe, or any hunter with joes mindset on a hunt.

      Casey C that was what I was referencing. Total douchebag move on Rogans part...I took one of my college buddies to our cabin in the bald eagle state forest area of central PA. There are world class native brook trout streams, and my buddy took it upon himself to bring his “family and friends” to a spot that was “secret.” Nothing was said, but it is implied between two ethical sportsmen that you don’t go bringing anyone else to a spot like that. Steven Rinella is one type of human that every person should aspire to emulate. Thanks for sharing so much of what you have been blessed to learn!

    I have been watching this podcast for a few years now...and I always see people asking for certain guests...this will be the first time I will weigh in on this. I would REALLY love to see Joe talk to Kurt Russell for a few hours.
    As for this one, I really wonder why they didn't get more into wildlife conservation and subjects like carrying capacity? I think for the lay person or the straight uninformed, this would really help.

    U get creutzfeldt disease sporadically most likely coming in contact with brain tissue that already harbors the misfolded proteins -> prions, which are completely resistant to becoming denatured so they accumulate in your brain since they NORMALLY contribute to myelin sheath production, so by touching or consuming the abnormal prion protein as in the case with the guy eating the squirrel brain he contracted those abnormal prion proteins and they accumulated in his brain leading to his death. Genetically Inheriting prion disease is very rare, you have more of a chance of contracting it sporadically 90% of the time. But in general this disease is very rare. No show has ever made me want to hunt and cook my own food more than Steve's show! He is the best and combining the show with how to gut, skin, prepare and cook etc. is awesome. Unfortunately, I didn't grow up learning to hunt, but I want to.

      @@nymeriagloves3957 In case of the Eric Weinstein one, I watched live but then they removed that one and reuploaded next morning. Most likely copyright strike for some 3 second clip they showed. But it's been happening a lot of streaming never sent the notification.

    Rinella, in my opinion, has been the best guest so far on JRE! He's also a great ambassador to the hunting community/industry.
