Quotation is one of the things I noticed that people ask really often, really early on after I started virtual teaching. When teaching in college, it’s in intermediate (probably because of the complexity of conjugation rules...) and I didn’t give much thought to “when” it’s taught... didn’t realize how many beginners also notice these in dramas, variety shows and songs super early in their Korean learning journey!!! Obviously you know that and include it in beginning level!!! 👍 This has been a learning journey for me as a teacher, too. 😃

This sentence, im confused who is asking why to whom: 유빈 says: 왜 안 만날 거냐고 물어볼까요? English translation was "Shall i ask why you will not meet him?" When 유빈 talking to 예은 , it's only previously mentioned that 선미 is never going to meet 석진 . It didnt seem relevant as to whether 예은 will meet 석진 or not. So does the sentence mean "shall i ask why 선미 is not going to meet 석진"?

@@TragaOfficial For casual speech, yes. For other things, it's fine to use either but the short version seems slightly more conversational. If you're only saying someone "said" something then the short ones get used a lot, but for other grammar forms you'll still need the full versions.
at 2:04 in 1st example sentence, when we remove 말 wouldn't that change the meaning? in translation it says ' Did you say you don't have time?' but after shortening it wouldn't it say ' Don't you have a time?"

Yes! Something you'll notice a lot in Korean, is that the "object" in a sentence, or the "subject" even is left vague. This is because it's understandable in context. Lots of Korean is contextual - it can mean many different things depending on the context, because it depends on who is doing what to do. For example, I might say "네, 아까 했어요" in response to someone asking me if I did something. In context, we can know it means "(I) did (it) a while ago," without saying "I" or "it" in the sentence. The same thing happens often with "telling" someone something. If it's clear who we're talking about (by the context) it's often left out of the sentence.
Yes, 대(요) is specifically ~다고 해요 shortened. Using it without the verb 하다 (~다고요) is just leaving out the "said" part of the quote, so it's more like just using quotations around a quote versus saying "Someone said..." in your sentence. Not a huge difference, but there's a nuance difference.

I think it might help if you think of your sentence in English too first. "I said I speak good English?" is a bit of an odd thing to ask yourself :P

The meaning is the same, since the quoting form means it's a "quote" (something that's said/spoken/heard/etc.).

It's not aggressive, and since it has the 요 at the end it's relatively polite. But it's not formal.
