@@debbiescott6732 Robert Palmer was a gifted musician and a true "class act". He was not involved with the excesses of the music scene, no drugs or alcohol, and was married with 2 children. He always insisted on wearing a suit to perform, despite producers urging him to grunge it up. He once said in an interview that he felt that the fans deserved a full performance, including him getting dressed for the occasion! He had no known health problems, when he died of a sudden fatal heart attack at the age of 53 while in Paris in 2003. The examiner found his system was free of drugs, etc. Gone too soon.. I still listen to his music today. He's a legend and left us a legacy! Best to you and yours

I agree with many of you that say this should be a world anthem. When we moved permanently from the UK to California back in 1978, on our long transatlantic flight on Pan Am Airlines, this song was the quintessential reminder of how life should be not just in America but in the world. Fast forward to a few years later, a TV station in the San Francisco Bay Area, Channel 2, KTVU, had this song as one of their openings of their station in the morning. It took me years to find this song and I'm so glad I did. I'll never get tired of this song. RIP Robert Palmer, you created music to change the world

There I go again when he starts singing.
Not a native speaker and the first time I heard this I was 14 years old, not really knowing or listening to the lyrics, but screaming the words along (I thought).
"Whether Yellow, Black or White, each and every man's the same inside".

We also had things in common and that was the Vietnam war. Our brothers, fathers, sons, fiance's, husbands, boyfriends.....were all being forced to fight in a war and they may night come back. Absolutely love this track, and always have, it brings me comfort especially now in these rapidly darkening times. It's a somewhat unorthodox juxtaposition of melancholy and hope, but despite (or maybe because of) that it just seems to work. Robert was a Yorkshire lad (born just down the road from me in Batley near Leeds) and way ahead of his time; this doesn't sound like a 70s tune at all (I believe it was re-released in 1992 and still sounded fresh.) I feel he still had much more to give were it not for his untimely passing.
