Busting at the Seams: CMC Neighborhood Choirs at Yerba Buena Gardens Festival

Singers from four choirs in CMC’s Neighborhood Choir Program for Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities, directed by Beth Wilmurt, will perform the songs of Malvina Reynolds, San Francisco-born environmental and human rights activist, singer, and songwriter (1900-1978) in a free outdoor concert as part of the annual Yerba Buena Gardens Festival. A friend and collaborator of Pete Seeger’s, she is best known for writing “Little Boxes”, recorded by Pete Seeger in 1963, it became his only single to make the charts in his career.
Singers include members of the CMC Bernal Heights, Richmond, Aquatic Park, and OMI (Oceanview/Merced Hts/Ingleside) - Catholic Charities Choirs for Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities, part of a tuition-free program of 15 choirs throughout SF.
This performance marks a multi-year effort by Beth Wilmurt to bring the lyrics and music of Malvina Reynolds alive in a new way with singers from different generations- both children and older adults. The singers are accompanied by guitarist Sharon Wayne and other CMC musicians.
