Saw Ringo live in 2019 and it was a great show. His All Star Band carried a lot of the load, but Ringo delivered. And he closed the show with "A Little Help From My Friends".
Don't forget, when this album came out in June '67, it spent 27 weeks at number 1 in the UK and 15 weeks at number 1 in the US. It was everywhere and marks a c-change in human consciosness. Great reaction fellas :)
When we returned from Congo in 66 to the USA after several years, it was an entirely different country. My dad said, "Well, while we were gone, the Beatles and the birth control pill happened. Everything we knew is gone." Wise man spoke truth. No one had any restraints, nor personal accountability after this...
I enjoy the vocal interplay within this song. In the first and second verses Ringo is asking the questions. In the second and third verses, as well as the bridges, they start to switch it up with his friends now posing the questions to him. 😊
Another fantastic reaction La/Chee In my opinion this is a special album by the boys from Liverpool. It’s an amazing journey of their artistic style. They are all over the map when it comes to genre of music. They just did what came to their heart and soul. This album is a banger. In my opinion I could not find one bad song. Keep on doing what you are doing.
Probably my favorite song, from my favorite album. The harmonies, friendship, optimism, and Paul's fantastic walking bass warm my soul. Adding to the sweetness, Paul wrote the song for Ringo, and tailored it to his vocal range--he had to work to hit that last note. 🙂 I think the more your hear this track, the more you will like it. Paul's plays magnificently on this track--and the entire album. I often focus on just his bass. Thanks for doing Sergent Pepper, I hope you love it.
I’m so HAPPY that you’ve gone to work on this album. When it was released I was a young fellow, not yet working, but managed to buy it myself somehow. This and Magical Mystery Tour (which you should also go through start to finish) were like cosmic psychological missiles fired into my head, by way of my ears. And now at age 68, they’ve never lost relevance or importance.
Joe Cocker made it his own with a little help from his friends Leon Russell's arrangement and Mad Dogs and Englishmen backing. Its easy to enjoy both versions because they are so different from each other.
I got this album the week it came out. The first thing that hit me was the recording quality. It sounded so much richer, better than any thing before it. Then they upped that quality with the white album! I assume it was advances in studio equipment. It was '67 I think. And each song ran to the next one without a gap. That was a 1st for me too. Also, Ringo is left handed but had to learn on right handed kits. Part of his uniqueness I think.
Fella's, The Beatles opporate in another Dimension. They had contemporaries but no competition. They set the pace throughout their career. Wait till you get to a "Hard Days Night". Pure craft from the #1 band on the planet.
Second comment, same album. Love how much you gets are "in" these mixes. Had to smile ... when La says, "check out that bass." Sir Paul definitely placed his bass MUCH more prominently in this album, and going forward. Before, he was more in the background. Lucy In The Sky is next up ... pretty amazing work there (and all), but Mr. Kite is extra special. Hope you guys post all your review of SP here.
Love the reaction. I never get tired of hearing this and when Ringo jumps up the octave to that E4, and it's really well supported, and he holds it, with all those incredible harmonies around it? Oh my God it's just great. The bridge pulls you up into the atmosphere to some degree, with those powerful backing vocals taking the lead, but when Ringo's voice comes back in on the answer parts, the chords and the composition and the rhythm and the words work together to insistently steer us right back to something very basic. He just wants someone to love.
Awesome song that Joe Cocker made his at Woodstock, but the original is sublime and Ringo is perfect singing it. One of my top 5 albums ever and this song was a reason why. The Beatles forever! Thanks guys and enjoy the rest of this Masterpiece! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶🔥
You always have to listen to The Beatles with respect to the era they were coming out with this material in. Nobody was doing anything remotely close. The Kinks surpassed them early on but do to inner conflicts and managerial problems they were stifled and never reached the heights that they deserved to reach. In overall creativity, they couldn't touch The Beatles.
I am listening to the Beatles since 1965 when I was 8 years old. And to this day they remain etched in my heart. The greatest band ever. I was mesmerized, the sound was surreal. They changed the World. In this song Ringo Starr shines. From Ringo I like I am the Walrus, Yellow Submarine and Photograph. Thank you for the memories
If you weren't there, you almost can't appreciate how edgy it was for the Beatles to sing, "I get high with a little help from my friends." Same as the Stones singing, "Let's Spend the Night Together." Ed Sullivan tried to make them change the word to "Let's spend SOME TIME together." On another note, Paul's Bass part on this song is worth a deep dive.
I highly recommend the Carpool Karaoke with Paul in Liverpool. It's pretty great. They visit places, including Paul's childhood home, where he lived when they started to get big. Also check out the deleted scenes.
Joe Cocker's "Little Help" and "Bathroom Window" were the two best Beatles covers that have ever been made. Totally made them into something else, and the something else was awesome.
@@AirplayBeats But in all seriousness, as much as I complain, without RUclips how woukd we get classic things like Gene Krupa from the Sullivan show.. ruclips.net/video/fyAUKU_ImNg/видео.htmlsi=cSPpb_3R81U2eXsf
Maybe the best cover of any song ever! Joe Cocker and Mad Dogs and Englishmen (with Leon Russell) (cut and paste) Joe Cocker - Mad Dogs & Englishmen - With A Little Help From My Friends
Yes, Ringo probably didn't have the vocal versatility of a Joe Cocker, but Ringo's singing is very smooth with a nice register. Ringo gave a recent interview this year where he said John and Paul sprung this song on him at the end of the day's recording session because they both knew Ringo was a bit nervous about singing a lead vocal. But he did alright in this one! Ringo said he was nervous at the end because Paul was pushing Ringo to sing that last high note he holds to end the song, and said he was relieved that he got through that take.
They definitely know it.. when they reacted to The Beatles version a couple months back they were talking about how they always knew the EWF version, but never realized it was a Beatles cover.
Here we go...still just working on the appetizers.. wearing my AirPlay Tee to the big city today (Tucson), we're going to town!...time to start your psychedelic journey...
Most people will (rightly) go on about how with its arrangements and complexities Sgt Pepper revolutionised music, but I think it's easy to forget that behind all that the Beatles never lost the skill of writing and brilliantly performing perfect little pop songs like this
Correct me if I’m wrong but I heard that after a long day of recording they asked Ringo to try a take of this one and he was feeling up to it. John and Paul said they would sing it with him. Indeed, he got by with a little help from his friends.
It's amazing that Joe Cocker made this into an entirely different tune, but the Beatles' version still is so soothing to listen to.
Cocker did his in 6/8 time, among other changes.
Love Ringo but Ringo vs. Joe Cocker? No contest but nice song
RIP💜 Joe*
@@jimmoore8951 word* no contest
@@jimmoore8951 joe's version is more soulful Ringo's equally soulful in a more lofty or gentle side. Or so i belive.
Fyi...Ringo is 84 years young, still playing the drums and singing, and looks great! Amazing Ringo 🤩
Saw Ringo live in 2019 and it was a great show. His All Star Band carried a lot of the load, but Ringo delivered. And he closed the show with "A Little Help From My Friends".
The amazing Ringo Starr! No one else like him.

Ringo just celebrated his bday here in LA. bloke looks in his 40s or 50s.
Ringo and Bill Ward have those deep style voices.
@@GinnyRobertsonLLC 😀 He did all the hits we expected except Act Naturally.
Paul's bass line makes me smile.
Always.
@@Grizazzleespecially on Sgt Pepper tho. The more deeper bass sound of the White album is great too
Paul is one of the best bassists of all time. Most people have no idea just "how" good he is.
In the upbeat songs it has this delightful “doop-de-dooo” bounciness to it, like the footsteps of a happy Sasquatch.
SAME!!!

Yes, talk about a cultural touchstone, it caused many 1,000s to start a band. They gave permission for music to be far more than a 3 minute single.
@robinfoster7597 Sea change.
That bass line is just genius.
That " get high with a little help from my friends" was radical beyond belief back in 1967!
The Beatles were unstoppable back in those days and the momentum and explosion is still felt all these years later. They were that good
They are still unstoppable!

Speaking of the Wonder Years/ Joe Cocker version, Jimmy Page is playing guitar on that version.
Every Beatle album from Rubber Soul on is an 11 out of 10.

@SenorDesmadre you think A Hard days Night and Please Pease Me aren’t top notch albums?

When the Beatles heard Joe Cocker's version of this song they were blown away, they loved it so much they told him " This is your song, man"
This is one of the most joyful Beatles tunes, coupled with some of the best bass PMC has played (the whole album, really)
