A short video describing how the E36 M3 throttle bodies were fitted to the M42 engine for a better sound and more power. They will also fit the M44 engine
I have an e30 318is, this is serious motivation! I’m curious about the loom/ecu work; as the itb install seems straight forward. If you ever get a chance to go into detail about that or post your notes, I’d absolutely love to see it. Also curious about cams/injectors, I’m a total sucker for the m42, and I refuse to swap it. An rhd/dbilas kit would be wicked, but for the money I’d prefer a diy build. Thanks for the vid!
Hi.jerseytim100 i build M42 to 2000cc...i have both crank M47 88mm to fit M42block okay...and M47N 90mm nose is short and absence oil pump run. :/ M47N crank ,We will get better 90mm, 13,6KG weight.....M42B18=13,6kg......M47 88mm= 15,8kg :/ I would be very grateful, if you would give me necessary information drawing to machining,I am only active on mail or facebook ...Very thanks. from Slovakia.
Yes, too many revs while changing down gears will throw a rod. Watch my video where I fitted a 2.8 engine as the m44 destroyed a piston and rod from over revving
The last set of itbs I bought cost £175 with an adapter but they are getting hard to get hold of now. I have just fitted them to an m44 all shown on another video on my channel
Anyway you can send measurements for the crank mods I saw the video but I’m not fully clear of the measurements I’m building a m44 stroker with 3.2 pistons did u just use the measurements of the original crank
i originally used the standard m42 rods as they are quite good, the small end needed bushings to be fitted so they worked with the smaller pin of the vauxhall piston. i have now changed the rods to aftermarket ones for security
I went with a dta stand alone Ecu. On my other video I fitted similar throttle bodies to a m44 and used the bmw Ecu which ran great without any reprogramming as long as you use the maf sensor
There are only a few wires to join together so not a big job. It’s all out there on the internet. I have just done it again to a m44 and have another video on my channel
@@jerseytim100 i have a bmw 318is 97 in brazil, so you removed the paper gasket and put in only the gray sealant? enjoy subscribe to my channel, I'm singing yours, thank you
Nice job! you you have a document to share with the steps needed? i´d be very interested in doing so to my e30 318is m-tech 2 and turn it to a propper baby m3
Looks like fun!! Were the pistons completely custom or readily available? If you dont mind me asking, is the crank conversion and fabrication etc very pricey? I really would love to build a sweet sounding rev-happy m42 rather than succumb to an m52, but if its 5x the costs to do im not sure if i can go ahead!
i had a m52 2.8 with 2.5 manifold and remap and you get fantastic power for the money, I much prefer the m42 but it will cost more than 5x the money of a 6 cylinder and there is a lot of specialist work needed to get it to work right
i did the 6 cylinder 328i previously which worked well and was really good bhp/£ but i much prefer the 4 pot m42 and i prefer the handling without the weight further forward.

You are wonderful as always :)
Does using gas stress the engine ?
which is better in performance and modifications M44 or M42 ?

Awesome Job !!!
Very interested send me a price for a fabricated kit to be shipped to cali
Around how much would it cost to do this? I’d love a setup like this for my ti!

the m47 diesel crank fits straight in the block. the rods and pistons need working out and the crank nosing needs adapting
jerseytim100 what did you do to the rods
i originally used the standard m42 rods as they are quite good, the small end needed bushings to be fitted so they worked with the smaller pin of the vauxhall piston. i have now changed the rods to aftermarket ones for security
shrigley did some work on the head, made the cams to his spec and fitted solid lifters
@@jerseytim100 Hi. Pistons from c20xe?
Is it possible to throw rods NA ?
is m44 exhaust header fit my right hand drive bmw e30?
hi there, thank you for your video. I'm wonder how did you reprogram your DME?
I went with a dta stand alone Ecu. On my other video I fitted similar throttle bodies to a m44 and used the bmw Ecu which ran great without any reprogramming as long as you use the maf sensor
My mouth makes water,for me,the most dificult,the electrical part,is a big project,amazing all together,I love it.

Do you maybe know what ITBs would fit to BMW's N45 engine (the one in the e90 320si) ?
*what material did you use to make the collector's gasket in the video? paper? cardboard?*
Gasket paper but eventually used grey sealant which is still working fine
@@jerseytim100 i have a bmw 318is 97 in brazil, so you removed the paper gasket and put in only the gray sealant? enjoy subscribe to my channel, I'm singing yours, thank you

great job ! I like the idea not using a adapter to fit ITB but weld/dril holes to mach instead . much straightforward path .
yes it was quite simple to do
What pistons do you use for this configuration?
hello: I'm riding an engine like yours. and I have a question, which cranks have you mounted?
thanks for the reply.
a greeting
it is the m47 crank from the bmw diesel
Would you make and sell a m42 itb kit?
I'd like to purchase a kit if you sell them @ ryanrlawley@gmail.com
where do I get the carburators?
These throttle bodies came from a bmw e36 m3 but not so easy to get hold of nowadays
M44 headers better than m42?
the m44 ones look like they are better than the m42 ones but still not ideal
What M3 engine is the itb taken from? S54
Minh Nguyen s50 3.0
damn that's even rarer in the states. D:
My car won’t start!! It just cranks, pops I don’t understand
So It' 1.6 stroked out to 2Liters? And does diesel crank fit right it?
1.8 to 2086cc. the crank fits in the block ok but the end that sticks out the front needs modifying
Add two more cylinders and it'd be around 300bhp... hmm lol
i did the 6 cylinder 328i previously which worked well and was really good bhp/£ but i much prefer the 4 pot m42 and i prefer the handling without the weight further forward.
Nice! I actually have an E46 328i myself and absolutely love it, getting close to being done with maintenance so I can start modding it :)
Hp?
This engine m44 not m42
It is definitely a m42
why ?
why not ?
Mateo1123ghj no return for all that work
@@Euphorica what do you mean no return? youve got the power of a 28 engine with the wieght of a 4 cylinder
