- The family says the 5-year-old girl simply had her hand on the door when her entire arm got sucked into the space between the door and the elevator wall.

The building owner should definitely counter sue , it’s clearly the child’s fault , every elevator has a bell when it stops on each floor, indicating the doors gonna open ….. that’s why you always hold your 5 yr olds hand at all times !

Most parents can’t stop a child’s split second reaction to things. Best thing the parents should do is call that lawsuit quits, take ownership of that child and just teach them to better. Nobody here needs to be sued for a child’s negligence. I’m glad the child is ok and didn’t lose any limbs

I have never seen this happen before. Strange accident I think. Elevator doors been around for long time. Unless the engineer hasn’t done inspections as of code or federal and state law the family could have a case. Terrible for that little girl. Hope she recovers fully

When I was younger my parents made us stand AWAY from the door until it opened and if no one was getting on then we stepped out. Its simple logic and common sense and I hope she loses this lawsuit. That slime ball lawyer is just making up nonsense to make up for her not watching her kids as they run around the elevator and hit all the buttons.

My parents would tell me to stand away from the doors, we had to wait til they opened just in case someone was coming into the elevator and not to block the door. Also in this case for Safety!

Elevators already have signs stating to stay away from the sliding doors. Stupidity should not be rewarded, I hope she loses that case. I also hope the company counter sues.
