I hear a lot of bias towards “gangsta rappers” in your voice. Put some respect on LL’s name. Hes one of the first black men to consistently make it to the end of the movie. Halloween, deep blue sea etc. Also, LL was never a “gangsta” rapper. Just a hip hop legend.
My immediate thought was "he isn't even a gangster rapper." He definitely had some disdain in his voice. Maybe this particular "joblo" person has some questionable similarities to the critical drinker.
Right it’s that typical Yt man tone when speaking about things they don’t understand. I didn’t see your comment when I made mine earlier but I had to say something as well.
I don't care who thinks what, Mind Hunters is the best and most suspenseful "who did it" movie ever made. It's exciting and unpredictable from the first second to the last, you don't quite know who the villain is until the end of the film. The film has a lot of original and good ideas that were never used in any other film before, and even if they were, you certainly didn't have such a good execution as in this film (scene with dominoes, scene with electrified water, poisoned cigarettes, final showdown of the villain and a hero under water...)
Saw this movie back in college when a friend recommended that we have an “Unofficial LL Cool J Duology” with this and Deep Blue Sea. The film is a blast with friends if you’re in it for some cheesy fun. “Take me back to the ghetto” lives rent-free in my head.
I enjoyed the film. I was well aware of the delays it had due to the Miramax/Disney separation but the plot intrigued me even if it was a retread of other films with the same idea. It's watchable every time I view it
I usually don't comment but couldn't resist this time because the video doesn't actually contain many arguments to substantiate the opinions. My view: - The casting does not influence the kill order, which makes it less predictable (and therefore better than movies where the famous actors always survive/survive the longest); - Enough of the characters were believable suspects, which added to the fact that it wasn't boring or predictable (cut to me yelling out 10 minutes in "of course the partner (Christian Slater) is going to be the killer, it's sooo obvious", boy, was I wrong XD); - Character flatness is an issue, but considering the time of a movie and the amount of characters, they did provide interesting characters with some background/depth; - The mindhunters being tested as a premisse is fun, but problematic considering profiling (as far as I know) is more of a solitary instead of a teamwork kind of job. However, it's made clear at the start that this is the plot, so if you can go along with that you'll enjoy the rest; - The camerawork/shots, music and pacing are super; - The who-done-it might have been done a lot, but this movie is the first to make every character an expert at it, considering they're all profilers. Also the deaths are highly original, for it's time and still today. The liquid nitrogen death is technically possible, even though it's highly exaggerated, obviously for suspense reasons. For those who think the cigarette death was dumb: addiction is real bruh, that's all I'll say. What mystery acid? That's a "just go with it" factor; - The acting was good, especially Kathryn Morris as the traumatised yet clever leading lady. The only thing that bothered me though was Jonny Lee Miller's American accent. I couldn't tell he's Brittish, but his accent sounded almost as I do when I (a Dutch person) jokingly put on a redneck accent. His acting apart from that was great though. All in all, it's a very good movie if you consider it in it's time and if you can look past some plotholes or unrealistic elements. I consider it a highly underrated classic. Even though it has so many memorable moments and has a consistent thrill level to keep you invested, it only gets a 6,3 on imdb and 57% on rotten tomatoes. Call me nostalgic, but I would recommend this movie to anyone looking for a fun movie full of twists.
The poisoned cigarettes was the dumbest death. 'Someone is ambushing us and knows how to bait us-HEY A FREE PACK OF SMOKES THAT CONVENIENTLY DROPS OUT OF THIS MACHINE!'
Lol, I remember this was one of the first movies I ever torrented. Screener copies got leaked before it ever hit theaters and I ripped a copy and we watched it at our local bar. We all enjoyed it. It has its cheesy and cliche and moments, but I think it was a fun ride.
What's funny is I read Mindhunter in college (which got me into majoring in Forensic Psychology) and when I saw this movie coming out, with Val Kilmer no less, I thought they were at first doing a fictionalized version of John Douglas' book and was excited to see it. I am so glad that Netflix finally did two seasons based on the book (although I really wish they did a third season).
SERIOUSLY I LOVE THIS MOVIE, I CAN WATCH IT WHENEVER AND DO, I don't get why it got bad ratings bcos it's AWESOME!!!!! JOBLO U NEVER DISSAPOINT!! My only gripe was when Christian slaters char died, like they could of just pushed him over and he be fine.
The movie seems very creepy and edgy pretty much all the way through - something that makes it a cut above just passing it off as like a TV movie with no discernible vibe or personality. Some never-ending franchises are all about "absurd kills", so picking on this film for that seems a bit unfair - and it's not like in the Agatha Christie novel And Then There Were None, which seems to have inspired this film, the deaths are that much less bizarre in most cases, and that's one of her most popular books. The least experienced actor is given the least focus and dialogue, so Harlin knew how to handle that situation. The original person doing the musical score came up with something that was not working, so Harlin got someone at the last minute who was looking to break into bigger films, who I think came up with a great musical score. It's debatable how much gore this film really needed, and even the director said in a Commentary that the level of gore may have been too much, upon reflection - but I think it helps make the film a borderline Horror film, not just some suspenseful serial killer movie that doesn't occasionally pay off on a very creepy vibe. The Croatoan thing that suddenly crops up, and seems like a big deal, is one of the things that fizzles out and doesn't ultimately seem to mean much, considering how prevalent it is for several scenes. But overall, I think this one is a hidden gem with a very distinctive feel to it. I'm surprised it's so disliked.
@HauntedHemo13 those r dumpster fires. Mindhunters ain't all that bad, I own a physical copy so that right there shows I don't think it's worthless. Its actually a good class study on screenwriting and what not to do.
This is crazy to me, I've had the scene of ll cool j and Kathryn Morris standing by each other at the end of a movie for years now and could never figure out where it was from! This video finally made me remember!
I liked the film back when I watched it on DVD once. Is it the best thriller of all time? No. But is it a well made one? Sure, the direction and the suspense scenes are quite good, and the performances too. The characters at least were distinguishable enough to make the guessing and red herrings fun to watch. And I remember liking the score of the film too.
Mindhunters is a Popcorn Teen Slasher flick that instead of having dumb teenagers, it has super smart soon to be FBI detectives. The premise takes the 80s and 90s slashers to a new ground by having extremely smart characters that would survive and figure it out the killer if this was any other slasher flick, but, to their lack of luck, the killer here is just as smart if not smarter than they are and seems to be one step ahead. Even when our characters make the smartest decisions, the killer still manager to swing the expectations and raise the body count. This is actually what kept me very interested throughout. It's a fun popcorn hack and slash that brings elements of Se7en, Saw and Scream without copying them per say. It kinda reminds me also of another forgotten slasher from the 2000s, "Identity" from 2003. Identity was still way better but it was a very grim and dark film, while this one brings more of the fun element with it. Loved it, certainly underrated.
I remember seeing this one but almost immediately forgot it. The Christian Slater nitrogen freeze scene was memorable for being laughable but I'll never see this again
First time I have heard the movie From Hell being considered a failure. I remember seeing it when it first came out and the theater was packed. Still like that movie.
I liked this film, but the reveal of how the heroine figures out the killer left me face palming, not because it's dumb, but because the heroine could have revealed the killers identity much earlier and saved the lives of her colleagues.
I understand what you mean, but tbf even the killer said something like 'you're other weakness is me'. A couple of times the movie mentions/hints that she likes him and so it makes sense that she has a blindspot for him. I thought it made the movie even better because they thought about that background explanation without overdoing it with some cliché romance scenes.
I remember the top 3 movies that came out the weekend that Mindhunters hit theaters: Monster-In-Law with J.Lo and Jane Fonda, Kicking & Screaming with Will Ferrell, and Jet Li’s Unleashed, which I saw with my friends. Mindhunters got whomped at the box office that weekend, and I was always curious to see if it was as bad as the critics said it was.
Back in the late 1980s, the late great tv show creator Stephen J Cannell did a show called Unsub starring David Soul. It was CSI meets Mindhunters years before either were a concept. It only last 13 eps or so on CBS. Totally ahead of its time. All eps are free on RUclips. If you like this sort show, check it out.
The issue with this was it got leaked online a week or 2 in full DVD screener format before the film was released. It is not a bad movie nor is it great but I think it is worth a watch
I believe that the main issue with this film was getting the audience to believe that all of this could be done by one individual in little to no time.
I find that werid because I ha e been following this site since 2001 and they had a horror movie sub site called arrow in the head( which the horror movie videos from joblo used to be named) and the guy who ran it ( John Fallon i think was his name) gave a good review to from hell. There was also a positive review to mind hunters as well. But sadly arrow in the head I think is no more a x John left the site
You forgot to mention the coolest location that actually exists, the building on the island is real and it's called Radio Kootwijk. It's just in the middle of the country instead of an island.

The poisoned cigarettes was the dumbest death. 'Someone is ambushing us and knows how to bait us-HEY A FREE PACK OF SMOKES THAT CONVENIENTLY DROPS OUT OF THIS MACHINE!'
