I just love Lionel Richie! He’s one of those that has it all...he writes, he sings, and he performs, and he does it all very well. This is one of my favorites.
These songs are called “classic” for a reason! It annoys me that society as a whole has a poor appreciation for this type of music and labels it “cheesy” or a “guilty pleasure”. It’s not. It’s F-ing awesome! And your way of explaining it makes me so happy. Love it!👌😍💕
OMG OMG THANK U. !!!!!!! I was learning piano and flute. My teacher required me to learn one classical for every pop song. I was OBSESSED with Lionel Ritchie.
Thanks, Fil! Love this song. My daughter Amelia and I perform this song in our duo, with me on looped guitar. Fun lead solo to play. We miss gigging. Hope we can get back to it soon.
Haven't had my fill of Fil fur awhile. 🤣Great analysis of a beautiful song by one of my favorite easy listening singers. I always learn a little something from each one of your videos. Thank you!
I went to see Lionel last year and it was the best live show I've ever seen. He leaves everything on the stage. So much energy and passion for his craft.
Got to see him in concert in the 80s when ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ was popular. Tina Turner opened for him... it was an amazing concert!! So glad I’ve gotten to see so many of these talented people - even tho it makes me feel old sometimes! Thanks for all the great information - as always!
You can't really miss his voice. I always re cognize Lionel"s silky smooth voice. No one does it better and l love all His vocals Thank you again for a great analyses you are brilliant wings of Pegasus 💋
Hi Fil! I remember rocking my baby to Lionel songs..that year was 1977! Of course he had so many gorgeous songs! What a beautiful voice...he could just melt my heart! One of the good guys! Thanks for this one! ✌️

i love watching Lionel perform, the talent is one thing and he comes across so confident....sorta same reason why im a huge fan of Phil Collins performances in the 80s and early 90s

4:20 That’s so interesting you mention what you call an offbeat. I’ve listened to this song hundreds of times! Wasn’t that clever of Lionel? Learning a lot in Florida. Thanks Fil.
I think I played Lionel's Back To Front on loop for about 5 years! Just can't get bored of this mans singing! Seen him live a few times too and he's fantastic.
Morning/afternoon Fil. Great analysis. Such a good easy listening song and a enormous talent. You explain so much that the non-musician(like me) would never know. Oh wow I also want to add Fil when you were on the guitar and humming along that was so cool! I loved that. 👏❤
Great choice, Fil. Lionel Richie is a brilliant musician. I particularly love the story about his writing "Lady" for Kenny Rogers, where Lionel had yet to come up with the second verse when recording started, and finished the song in a bathroom stall at the studio.
Fan since the 'blue' album. Another hit was "Brick House" GF and i walking a back street to The Coronet Theatre to see Star Wars, '77. Truck full of 'locals' cruise by blasting this tune. Just kept her and my Old Timer close.
He is such a great singer- songwriter. There’s a fabulous live vid of him and Kenny Rogers singing “ Lady” together. He wrote it for Kenny and you see the mutual love shining so strongly.
The guitar solo is rememberable because I'm already thinking of it of and it hasn't even happened yet 😊 My favorite song by his is Say You Say Me. I love its message. Also about the solo I love the slides😊
Bravo Fil! Your analysis of the legendary Lionel Richie was brilliant(as you suggested, I watched Lionel's performance video, then came back here)! Your informative and thorough analysis as well as your vocal and guitar demonstrations of the overall performance had me musically absorbed this time--you had me beyond musically thinking. I hope you don't mind my asking this: In 3:51, you mentioned and demonstrated the coming in on the offbeat. Though I could be wrong about this, would that be an example of syncopation? If I'm wrong, I stand corrected. Again, you had musically absorbed in every way. Thanks for this experience!
Wow!!!!!Lionel is great👏👏👏👏What a great talent he is very versatile, he writes his songs and also plays very well, this is exemplified by the song selected for the analysis, your explanation is magnificent and interesting. I congratulate you👌👌👌👌✔💯👊🤘
Great choice of Lionel Ritchie and this great song. I think you explained his style and voice so well. I also enjoyed listening to you strum the song and hum the melody. You truly have perfect pitch. Maybe that would be a new cover for you. Thanks for this one.
Gosh he looks really good for a 50 something (some people age really well). Gosh a favorite of mine; always has been. He is a performer who got better when solo; which is saying a lot because he was awesome as part of the Commodores. Thanks for sharing. " Easy" , when I first heard it, meant to me he is saying he is an uncomplicated, easy going person. Lyrics are fun to interpret and everyone will have a different interpretation. Always good to view your channel; you're so good-looking and interesting to watch. Just a compliment from a fan
Had to watch off and on in between candle making so I just now finished this analysis, GREAT analysis and breakdown Fil! And the bonus of you playing guitar and singing just made this even better!!! Just wow!! Awesome job truly. Lionel is definitely great at everything, he can do all and his voice 💜 unmistakable when you hear him you know it's him. Also the main thing I so admire is that yes he's a great songwriter but he also knows when to hand one of his songs to someone else!!! Not many people can do that, for instance he sounds great singing Lady BUT he knew that Kenny Rogers would slay it and he did ! Straight up the charts it went. Has Lionel ever hit the wrong note live? I've watched every video I could find even with the Commodores and I can't find anything except perfection every single time every single note, he's one of the greatest for sure! Thank you again Fil for this, I liked, saved and shared it!!! ROCK 🤘
Lionel was born not far from me... he has a museum in Alabama with all of his things his first tour bus just a really cool place! Sorry I have missing you man!
