ITV The Look of Christmas Day 1988 trailer

A trailer for ITV's Christmas Day line-up in 1988, including Christmas Blind Date, the television premiere of The Empire Strikes Back, Coronation Street, 10 Years of It'll Be Alright on the Night, and One More Audience with Dame Edna. No stronger Christmas Day line-up has ITV ever managed to produce since.

This is probably ITV's best Christmas Day line-up during my lifetime. No repeats, only one soap, an eagerly awaited film premiere. The ad doesn't mention that special episodes of Mr Majeika and London's Burning also aired.

My father recorded the 1988 Christmas Day premier of The Empire Strikes Back on ITV and I noticed on Dad's videotape which he recorded it off the TV back in 1988 and I later noticed in the 2004 limited edition DVD that some scenes had been cut for time: The scenes were Luke Skywalker stumbling in the snow following his escape from the Wamp cave. A Rebel commander ordering the shield doors of the Rebel base closed, RD2D estimating Han Solo and Luke Skywalker's chances of survival. The Imperial fleet approaching Hoth. Han Solo and Chewbacca's reactions when Han tells Luke to be careful, just before the Snowspeeder battle and Han Solo telling Princess Leia to not get excited, when experiencing a quake in the cave, whilst aboard the Millennium Falcon.

I remember that too.. eight years it took to turn up and it was cut when it arrived lol..

Christmas Days were always better when they feel on a weekend because LWT had the bigger entertainment shows. Sorry Thames but they did.
