I've reached the conclusion they know well what the end point of Trump's BS is. They will throw out their boilerplate arguments, when those are defeated and they are cornered, most will stay silent and just insist on continuing to believe what they want to believe. My point was that if it was left up to the Ohio legislature, for example, it wouldn’t have passed. Ohio is actually slightly blue in its electorate, believe it or not. Not just purple. But the Republicans have gerrymandered the state districts so much, that Republicans firmly control both houses. Florida is similarly gerrymandered, though not quite as badly. I’m not sure they’ll have the votes. I’m not even sure Florida allows democratic referenda, or whether that’s a viable option, if this doesn’t pass.

Sometimes, I think that I need to stop clicking on stories about Trump on RUclips and even on my NYTimes and WaPo apps. I search for Biden articles: not easy to find with the algorithms being what they are. I don't want to give more air to the Trump campaign, as much as I want to keep up with what is happening

I've lived in the US for 30 years. The choice between hate/chaos and empathy/order couldn't be clearer to me. If America ends up selecting the former Orange Mussolini, it will deserve everything that follows. Unfortunately, the rest of the world won't escape unscathed.
America has never selected Trump as POTUS based on the popular vote. The problem is the electoral college, which has always been about giving greater voting power to the states with smaller populations (of which many are rural), resulting in minority rule.

So to inject some reality into this video of two people who have not been to a pro-Palestine protest, I do not observe antisemitism at these protests. I live in Denver, where the police violently cracked down on the Auraria Campus protest. I went and checked out the protest camp the other day because I'm opposed to our government's participation in the genocide of the Palestinian people, but wanted to be extra sure that I'm not wrong about saying that the claims of antisemitism within the student protest are very overblown. The first and largest sign I saw at the Auraria encampment was from the Jewish Not In Our Name movement, and I didn't hear any antisemitic remarks in any of the conversations I participated in. In fact, I heard frequent disavowals of antisemitism.
These protestors are the same people who put themselves on the line when conservatives try to ban teaching about the holocaust. The people I know who were the most alarmed by the Colleyville Temple shooting are the same people who are alarmed by the violence in Gaza. I've read a history book. I know authoritarian crackdowns on liberal protests are a worse sign for Jewish people and other marginalized groups than some kids with cardboard signs.
How is Norm the first person to tie constitutional to intestinal? GasX budget? Hire that man.

So I think more people need to read the LA Times peice who had reporters on the ground in the UCLA protests. To say it was violent or chaotic is misrepresentative of what happened when pro israeli mobs of outaide agitators attacked the peaceful protestors for hours while cops and security watched. Then, the next night, they used the pretext of that violence commited on the pro palistinians to shoot protestors and clear the camp. And none of this has been widely reported. Those protestors might be THE example of how to organize an effective and highly disaplined peaceful protest, but they get smeared as a "little gaza" and terrorists. Its not a both sides thing and is the single most violent outburst out of all protests with reporters, camera footage, witnesses...so to hear the president say nothing of it and just say anti semitism and violance is bad makes me feel insane.
NYT is now reporting and validating what you say. Lots of visual, hard evidence to support this sad news. I am hoping the governor Newsome will demand answers to find out who the instigators of violence are and Call out the officers who did Nothing for hours. The delay to respond to assist the pro-Gazan protestors needs to be answered.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is just a karen... A karen that somehow bullied enough people on social media & asked for enough managers that somehow, she found herself in a position of power. However she slept through high school civics class & she clearly doesn't have the faintest clue how any of this works. She thinks if she yells the loudest that somehow it will result in her getting everything she wants all the time. If she doesn't get what she wants? Then in true Karen fashion, she tries to get someone fired. She doesn't seem to understand the concepts of persuasion (at least need when it comes to convincing anyone who doesn't already agree with her) or compromise. Thank you for saying this is not like the campus protests of the 60s. There was never hate towards another group of students and there was never fear from a fellow student. There is no comparison.
You also didn’t have more guns than people and daily school shootings and a neglectful lack of gun regulation…
I don’t really agree with several things already mentioned, like how police brutality is a separate issue from the protests when those are two very interconnected issues, but nothing absolutely egregious today.

How are police abuses against protesters a “whole separate problem” from the protesters “accepting their penalties”? Seriously?
the point i think is that whether the police are going to beat you has essentially no relation to whether you cooperate with your own arrest. they probably made that choice before you did.
Typically the penalty for breaking a rule is enforced with the minimum amount of force required for compliance, and that's before you even assess whether or not the rule being broken is actively endangering anyone or anything. So police abuses against nonviolent protests are quite clearly not supposed to be a consequence of nonviolent protest... The only reason they occur is due to the temperament and/or training of the officers involved.
