    Sit Coleman Hawkins. He is a turnover machine. Mayer is a head case and Shannon’s weakness has been exposed. All three were supposed to bring this team together and they all are busts!! Hand the reigns over to the freshmen and when Goode gets back, let him start. Harris has more energy in his pinkie toe than the entire team combined.

      Brad has no offensive scheme! Them guys out there just doing whatever! Hawkins to damn long to be constantly out on the perimeter and not take advantage of his size and long arms inside the paint! Franz Wagner is the same size as him and Franz could actually handle the ball well enough to get into the paint and score! Hawkins barely improved his game on the offensive end and is to far in his college career to be throwing up dumb shots and turning the ball over so much! Not all on him because we have other players who can’t hit open 3s!

    I'm kind of perplexed that people are saying the game plan was perfect. Unless you know something specifically that I do not, I am not sure how you could say that. If I remember right, we did not get to the foul line the entire first half because we don't run an offense that gets downhill to the basket. We would rather bring our 6'10 275 center up the floor, free throw extended, set one screen, throw one pass, and shoot. Meanwhile, the guys on the other side of the floor do not move and stand to watch what happens with one option. Maybe this is an execution issue and not a game plan issue, I'm not in practice, but I can tell you one thing. It isn't working, and the plan needs to change. What is really disappointing is when they decided to run the weave vs. the spread offense last night, they scored more frequently, and the ball at least moved from side to side.

Lieb, in his few minutes, plays w/ twice the heart & BB mentality, give him some of hawkins minutes ! Can't wait for Goode & Melendez to regain heath, they're gonna b the key, as fas as seasoned play. Other players need to play better/ stronger to take pressure off Shannon.

    @rorywyatt4174 Год назад +2

    I think if your expectations simply were for him to be better than Groce, then, you can say mission accomplished. But, with the transfer portal, NIL paydays, bigger and better facilities being built, and skyrocketing coaching salaries, the expectations and pressure of coaching in a Big 5 Conference is for coaches to win NATIONAL championships. Just my humble opinion, but Underwood is already failing and that is why he appears to be in meltdown mode this season. Pressure bursts pipes!

    • @bf1lv
      @bf1lv Год назад +1

      They are NEVER going to win a National Championship with Underwood as head coach. He has never even gotten out of the first weekend with any team that he has ever coached. And, this year's team isn't even going to go to the tournament. They are going to be lucky if they win four games in the conference. Whitman needs to start working on boosters writing a big check to buy out his contract, and hire a new and better coach. This guy is a dinosaur.

      @@bf1lv Ayo and Kofi aren't coming back. So, now he must do like Matt Painter did after he lost his stars, coach more. Speaking of Painter, I hear it being said a lot that Underwood's team is the 2nd youngest team in the country. Well, guess who has the 3rd youngest team? Yep, Purdue. So, that excuse doesn't even fly.

    • @bf1lv
      @bf1lv Год назад +2

      @@rorywyatt4174 The difference between Underwood and Painter, is that Painter can actually COACH. The development in his players from year to year is quite noticeable. I can't say the same thing about Underwood's players. Whitman should start talking to boosters in order to come up with the money to buy out Underwood's contract, then go to Painter on both knees and offer him a blank check. Illinois would be in the Sweet 16 and beyond every year if that happened. But, I'm not going to dilude myself into thinking that it will.

    In my opinion, it is easy to be a arm chair Quarterback, and blame the coaches, but in my opinion , The big Ten is a tough smash mouth psychical conference. You have to be mentally and physically tough to win in it.
    This falls on the players to step up and be that as a team.
    They looked confused and dazed with no real energy or fight.
    10 trips to the Line vs 40.
    settling for contested three's instead of going inside on and taking to the hoop. Tells me they don't want play psychical basketball. Unfortunately in the big ten your not going to do well with that mentality.
    I watched the the Pitt vs Michigan game.
    Very psychical. people diving on the floor .
    Hunter Dickerson , with blood pouring down his face with cotton ball stuffed in his nose diving on the floor for loose balls. Playing to win!
    I think the Illini players thought it was going to be easy after beating UCLA and Texas and really slacked off and stop listening to the message Underwood was preaching to them about toughness., so they got soft and now they getting their soft butts kicked.
    I don't fully agree with everyone about Underwood, Yes altimitly it falls on him but the players are the ones on the floor and practicing they have take responsibility for their lack of energy and excition and fouls and turn overs and work as a team be prepared to be psychical.

    • @rorywyatt4174
      @rorywyatt4174 Год назад

      So, what about when they played against Missouri? They play in a totally different conference. As far as execution of his gameplan, I don't know either, but when something fails enough players stop buying in. So, perhaps, they expect to lose when they play top tier teams now. That is on the coach who said this was his best recruiting class since coming to U of I.

      @@rorywyatt4174 I think we brought in a lot of players who just don't have a clue that Mizzu is going to give you their best shot and you can't take a day off int he BIG TEN. You can tell them but they don't believe until they see it. I got a guy I manage who has amazing talent but I got three other people who run rings around him b/c they work harder. They win at performance time every year. Lots of talent but if you don't listen and don't apply the teaching all the talent in the world won't save you. Jordan isn't Jordan w/o the drive.

      @@rorywyatt4174 Well, something sure changed after the two big wins over UCLA and Texas. I believe what ever Underwood was running then was working they beat two highly ranked teams with it.
      Something changed after Texas, I believe that was the attude of the players themselves. I think they won those games and their heads got big and they stop doing all the things that got them those wins.
      You can coach all you want but the players have take responsibility and personal pride in how they are playing.
      You seen it in a couple of interviews.
      You can see it in the body language of the players.
      Underwood is trying change offense now to get something going.
      But to me, it is still about the energy and effort of the players and playing as a team not individually.
      You can't just stand around the three point line and shoot three's.
      You can't send a team to the charity stripe 40 times and you only get there 10.
      That means you are not getting to the bucket .
      You can't turn the ball over more time than you get assist.
      That is not Coaching that players not doing what they are suppose to be doing, taking care of the ball and not committing stupid fouls 30 foot from the basket. Just fundamentals man.
      As far as the bragging rights game goes.
      I believe Underwood stressed the importance of that game to the players but eventually it didn't sink in.
      Man, if your a Illini player and you can't get fired up for that game , your wood is wet!
      If you only win one game whole year that would be the one game you should want to win. Sad showing indeed!
      But Ultimately it does fall on Underwood's shoulders to figure out away to get these guys playing up to the talent level they are capable of again.
      We all seen what they are capable of in the 1st part of the year.
      But they need to work it out asap as a 0 and 3 is starting in a big hole with 3 and 0 Wisconsin coming to town.
      Hopefully this loss wakes them up and they get some things figured out in practice and come to Play Saturday.
      Thanks for the comment and reply.

    Horrible Illinois team. Horrible coach. Stand around and shoot 3s didn't work again (29%). To LOSE to a Northwestern team that shot under 30% is incredible. That Northwestern shot 40 free throws is incredible. That an Illinois player would pick up TWO fouls in the first TWENTY-FOUR seconds is incredible. Time for a new coach. @TruthHasSpoken: Man you’re soft. I’ve coached for nearly 25 years and if your players can’t handle your intensity/passion then that’s on them. I always told my players I’m not going to apologize for being passionate about what I do. Bottom line is your coach’s “want to” can’t be greater than your players.
