What do you mean, "It is not what you know, it is who you know"? How does that apply to Columbus? He did not come from privilege or from familial connections. He seemed to have served at sea and worked hard to educate himself in all that would be required of master and commander. He was not a Prince Charles or George Bush who were merely born into wealth and privilege. He seemed to have worked diligently, relying on his own drive and wit to rise to his position as sea captain and later commander of this voyage. I find the use of the colloquialism, "It is not what you know, but who you know", completely flippant and out of place regarding Columbus. In fact, Columbus' endeavors are the antithesis of such a phrase, especially in the context of how it was used in this presentation.
Thank you!
