    Why are your sugar gliders so calm? When I try to trim my gliders nails they act like cats trying to take a bath.

      Try to remain calm, but assertive. If you get nervous, they tend to get nervous too :-)

  • @sammylacks4937
    @sammylacks4937 Год назад +1

    I give you credit for the calmness and cooperation of your gliders. That says a lot.
    I have tried using a bonding pouch as a glove and here's the issue I ran into. I have 3 cages and while most are related after a short time they don't acknowledge their dad or brother but instead the males at least from one cage typically don't get along with others. I used a bonding pouch to hold a female without thinking about it had held other Gliders time to time. When I put her back , her male cage mate immediately attacked her. I was able to get Wink out before he hurt her. I cannot hold males of one cage without washing hands and arms before going to a different cage. Some males are more aggressive than others and some females
    even get aggressive from the scent of others on me. I can go wash off, then open cages or hold them with no probs. I don't understand why the scent on my hands would incite an attack , and this is the only instance they would bite offensively.
    Thanks for sharing.

I use the sandpaper traxs with their wheels tho, after seeing your burrito wrap I will make attempts with their itty bitty hands again. Thanks for a great learning video 🤗

      Oh, age has nothing to do with it. Lily is the youngest and by far the most difficult to handle during trimmings, but Dobster was 12 years older than the rest and he was even more difficult than Lily 😀 If you can't finish in one day, just try it again the next day 😊

    That face oreo made after you gave him 2 treats "mom, you can't fool me with the same treat twice"
    And I like how your glider just don't do many dramatic crabbing when you cut their nail ^^
    If my glider don't like to use the wheel, where do you think would be good to put the nail trimming insert?

    • @AwesomeSugarGliderMommy
      @AwesomeSugarGliderMommy  6 лет назад +2

      To be quite honest a nail trimming insert is really not necessary unless you really hate nail trimming. On the other hand the more often you do it, the easier it gets. If they don't like to use a wheel, then you can use cork toys around their cage, that will help a little bit! :-D

    • @AwesomeSugarGliderMommy
      @AwesomeSugarGliderMommy  5 лет назад +1

      My advice is to ask your vet for help for the first time, then you can get a feel for how to hold them. But only pick a vet that trims their nails without putting them under anaesthesia.
      Alternatively ask in one of the Facebook Suggie Groups if anyone experienced lives close to you and would be willing to come over and show you how to do it in person 😊

    • @AwesomeSugarGliderMommy

      You need to be very, very patient to bond with them and your dogs shouldn't be able to come close to them. Furthermore, you should buy at least 2 Sugar Gliders as they should not be kept solitary. Many Sugar Gliders don't become very tame, if they don't get enough attention from their owners (it can also depend on their personality though).

      Yes, probably, unless you have a whole lot of cork items in the cage and a trimming insert in their wheel. You should see if you have another owner that lives in you area. Once our current health crisis calms down, you can maybe visit them and then can teach you in person. You can also ask a vet to show you.

    • @AwesomeSugarGliderMommy
      @AwesomeSugarGliderMommy  6 лет назад

      @@cm5147 Well I am not a breeder so I'm not an expert on this topic, but having females pregnant at this age is not wise at all. They need the vitamins and nutrients to still grow but instead now they have to give those to the joeys. This could lead to your females being malnourished and/or underdeveloped later in life.
      That being said I have read about pregnancy jealousy and it is possible that the other female (the one that has lost the joeys) is trying to steal the babies from the female that is still carrying joeys. The thing is especially during a pregnancy the female should get all the attention possible and should not be stressed in any way so repeatedly removing the male from her is not a wise thing to do. But, again, not an expert on this topic so your best bet would be to contact a reputable breeder and ask them to help you out with some answers 😊

    • @AwesomeSugarGliderMommy
      @AwesomeSugarGliderMommy  5 лет назад +2

      Depends, but with the way we keep them (little to no wood in their cage), we generally have to trim them. Their nails can get too long, they can get stuck in things, they can hurt you when you play with them... So normally we do have to trim their nails. You can use a nail trimming insert for their wheel which will prolong the time between trimming.

    Animal Intelligence Subject: I would be interested in results of anyone allowing them to watch videos of documentaries with them in it in the wild and things or behavior they pick up on. If they watch it or it's left running near their enclosure. I was thinking this may help in rewilding training for animals that need to hunt.
    Though this is not my field, I'm a Physics major just something I picked up on.
    My great aunt-in-law had a cat that would pull on a television to watch Cougar Country regularly and would sit and watch it. It scared her because she didn't know the cat could do that and heard a male voice when she was in the shower and her husband was away. There's some docu's on rewilding big cats and how to teach them to hunt when something has happened to their mom.

      @@guymandude7855 Of course you are right, but also there is no fleece in the wild and they naturally trim their nails by climbing trees. If you keep an all natural enclosure, then they do not need their nails trimmed, however most owners prefer to offer pouches, bridges and other cage sets made from fleece for them to cuddle in and they have less cork to keep their nails in shape.
