I'm really happy the way this hobby has progressed in the last year! We used to have only the tofu and some other boards as budget drivers and now we have a buttload of choices to choose from! Can't wait to see what next year will look for this hobby!
I actually feel the opposite. I entered this hobby not long ago and right now the amount of budget keyboards and keebs in general is just overwhelming. There is something exhausting about so many keyboards coming out, which I feel takes away the special/uniqueness sense to it all. Right now it feels like we are all chasing rectangles.
@@shynnsup8383 you are not wrong about it, atm we have soo many choices that it's hard for beginners to choose as they are less experienced and still developing their taste but with every good there are it's bads. for me atleast i would prefer having more decent choices than few bad choices. Like you said it is kinda overwhelming but if one knows what they are looking for then it's a godsend. Much love
@@altair3090 Indeed, on that note, it honestly feels like it is all the same or the difference is impossible to tell until you buy and experience for yourself. Like buying a pair of socks right? They are so many it is all the same.
@@rcarter1690 the trend will continue: owlabs sister company qwertykeys will release a budget tkl next year. And owlabs + qwertykeys always release the best keyboards
I really appreciate your vids, staying on a stream for multiples hours is pretty much impossible for my brain. I get to see some keeb content and some Alex, it’s perfect.
Dang Alex, solid review here. Really considering this board and I really appreciate your takes. Love your attention on sound and stuff regarding the vintage white and messing with springs and all
So much good boards coming out recently. If I didn't pick up a Tiger80/Tiger80 Lite I would definitely like to pick this up as I am a huge fan of BT. The green color is so dang nice, but I am trying to hold myself back as I keep telling myself the QK75 is right around the corner. Love the vid!
Totally going to pick this up. I’ve really wanted tkl that supports split back and right shift being used to a hhkb layout, and having Bluetooth is awesome would love to use with an iPad just for writing!!!
Hello, i'm wondering if you could get dimensions on the stainless steel weight inside of the keyboard, i'm trying to have one made in brass for my own zoom TKL ahead of time and the measurements would be super useful if you could get them. Thanks!
I wonder how the Zoom TKL compares with the Monokei Standard... I know that they are technicaly in different categories. The Zoom is only about $50 more expensive, but seems to offer much more. Given that the price isn't an issue, which one would y'all get?
What does flex cuts and thinner pcb (1.2mm) do to the sound of the keyboard? I know it does feels softer to type on but I just wanna know how different it is in terms of acoustics.
I think flex cuts mean less resonance with case cavity, so quieter and less "board sound" (which may be an unwanted hollow or ping sound or a good sound). Sometimes plate foam is preferrable if flex cuts lessen the sound too much.
hey alex, love your videos, Ive watched a bunch of your sound tests and I can't seem to figure out how you get the spacebar to make a noise when pressed down, but stay silent when it goes up. I'm not looking for it to be neccessarily quiet, but softer and deeper is good, im just trying to make it so that when I click it it still sounds but when I let go and it rises up it doesnt make the clacky noise. Any tips?
@@R3p1ica88 I have silent switches, and yes they’re a little quieter but not only does it quiet eveyrthing the sound is still there. In all these sound tests the press down makes a very noticeable sound but when it slides up it’s dead silent almost
Is this really happening? Is the wait finally over? I'm like waiting a decade for a good TKL to replace my Keychron Q1. With everything I need, ISO Support, Affordable and it's gorgeous.
This is probably the most premium budget board the hobby has seen so far, if that makes sense. Basically no concessions given, if someone told me this was 300$, it would easily be worth it. At 180$, it's literally a no brainer. It even has that flair in the form of the bottom piece and the down facing rgb.
IMO this beats it in a lot of ways for me, BUT i will say the freebird is not a bad board on it's own. I just prefer this board for it's aesthetics and sound personally. It feels way more refined than the free bird.
just ordered the white version, I should get it in May, didn't know the metal plate on top of the battery is an optional item and need to buy it separately, decided not to buy it. Do you think it made a big difference in sound ?... I think it's more for weight more than sound.
Hey Alex what typing angles are your favorite and why? You said 6-7 degrees feels nice but can you elaborate? I have not used that many keyboards and wonder what the differences in feel and comfortability are. Thanks!
I prefer the 5 degrees on this one. It is one of the lowest typing angles for a custom board. Basically your wrist will not have to flex backwards as much
@Stephen Black My brother recently gave me a tofu65 as a gift and even though it is low tier it introduced me to the hobby. I cant afford other keyboards but man it is amazing to see so many builds!
what's the point of the glass tho? Am I missing something? i would assume you would keep the keyboard with the actual keys facing up, so you won't be able to see the glass anyway? Other than that it all looks pretty nice :)
LOL a year later and still nobody knows the point of the fancy glass back. Great keyboard (only TKL with split spacebar + bluetooth on the market) but this is really dumb, adding cost for an absolutely useless feature. Nevertheless, I'm going to buy one because I need the split spacebar, bluetooth and TKL.
Offering colored glass is actually an amazing way to combine the case and glass to make your own unique colored bottom piece without paying too much for a different metal bottom entirely!
It's a shame the foams got wrecked in shipping. Looks like they all got overheated and then melted together. Was probably left in the sun. Feelsbadman.

Dude, this feels like the year of the budget TKL. There have been so many nice and budget friendly options out there with some really nice features!
I totally agree!
Yeah this is a great year to collect TKL. I think there are a few more GB before the year ends for TKL
Really hope this trend continues, plus competition is always good.

I've watched this about 6 times now and the build VOD. Thank you sir, this will be my first custom TKL and the green is such a winner!
Wow, the aesthetics and sound are absolutely stellar for this price point.

i was thinking of getting the keychron Q1, not anymore bro!
Kinda glad I backed out of the promise87 last minute now. This is an awesome price for the quality!
The glass back is pretty unique, going to keep an eye on this one.
Might be my first TKL, although I just entered the GBs for the JRIS65 and QK60. Beautiful board, especially for the price.
Actually might be my first TKL, looks good
It sounds like a rain outside the window😍
Mid November GB you say? Right when I'll have enough money? Goated.
didn't know i needed another tkl
holy crap this sounds good
just on a whim copped an instock one so I'm rewatching this vid :) gonna have a whole squadron of lilac zoom keebs ones the 75 comes out
The GB just dropped today on my local vendor's page. I planned to get the cool gray one. It would be nice with my GMK Rainy Day 😍
GB was announced right after I preorder FreeBird TKL… Well I guess I’m adding two new TKLs to my collection.
I'm keen to read the full write up! I was considering the tiger 80 lite, but this is heavily tempting me away from that.
What’s the compact keyboard you’re using & the keycaps I love the design of it
have this in lilac color.
really love the sound profile.
i use spcabar split, and internal weight.
with a pom switch
😍
Real question, is there a link to your deskmat in this video? vibing with that color
Would love to hear a comparison with the tiger80!
how does this compare to the tiger80? i can't decide between the two lol, love the video!
Would your prefer the Tiger80 alu over the Zoom 87?
damn I just finished watching the whole stream on twitch because there wasn't the short vod on youtube.yet, then back to youtube and saw this
Hey please do a 65% knob build i’m thinking of finally buying one and your favourite creator!
Where do you get these deskmats???
They look gorgeous
the F13 is 🥶, but will they make wkl top case?
I might grab this but curious to see if Qwertykeys will release their QK TKL soon and how they implement it.
Hey Alex,
I was wondering if the weight comes default with the board, the internal one?

Buy half-silent switches. There are some that only make bottom out sound and silent when go up
Jwick gray white for examplr

qk75 or zoom tkl?
Please help. I like both layout.
What do you think Zoom TKL or KBDFANS Tiger 80 is the better board ?

I get mine from Omnitype :D

does anyone know what 65% keyboard was on his desk in the beginning, I like the shade of grey on that one
Was thinking of getting the Akko Mod 007S Peri colourway, but now this seems such a compelling option. What do u think ? Ik TKL vs 75% but still .
Def this tkl

Have to agree with Alex here. This looks like much more refined Keyboard than the Freebird, for a lot less money as well.
just entered the group by. these dont come with the switches or the caps correct?
in terms of typing feel, this or the tiger 80 lite?
Comparing to the frog tkl is this board any good?
im a minute in and Alex realizing it came with lubed switches made my morning.... im sorry alex LUL

is a group buy when you can only buy within a certain time period?
does anyone know if this pcb accept iso with big enter key plz ? i saw like for zoom 65 pcb accept ansi/iso but nothing about this enter key :/

Guys, PC or Alu plate for this keyboard?
Do you recommend this or the tiger 80/lite??
Better value, tiger80 lite or this?
anyone know if he did a build of the grey board?
How does this compare to the promise 87? I feel like it's basically the same board without the bells and whistles
The Promise87 doesn't have the split spacebar option, and it's double the price. But it looks like it came out of the same factory, doesn't it?
I want scarlet red with PVD weight
zoom tkl vs tiger 80 lite?
Please I hope this gets made into 1800 layout

Bluetooth is a big plus on this one with that price... it's a real solid contender for sure.
It is HUGE for this price point and nice that it comes as a default option for the PCB
A lot of chinese gbs have them if thats your thing ;)

Where did you get that mousepad
Zoom TKL vs Tiger 80?)
Def a consider for me… next year tho. I have bills to pay:/
which plate is better for hight pitched clack
alu or cf
I think CF and ALU would be great for that, but probably ALU if you want the louder clack and more on the high pitched side of things
From what I hear, cf is on the deeper side of plates. I would go with Alu.
I regret getting the freebird tkl now lmao
Freebird TKL at 250$ is nuts at this point
And they still haven’t even delivered it lol.
love me some GKM Dandy keycaps

where can I get in on the group buy?
